RASMUS WINGARDH ATELIER de CONCEPTION + R.S WOODWORK presents ASQUITH & SPOONBENDER A collection of furniture handmade in Stockholm Sweden. We focus on a high quality furniture in 100%wood Rasmus Wingårdh (aka Asquith) is a seasoned fashion designer and creator based in Stockholm Sweden. Growing up he was denied angles and now he is taking it out on Rob Rob Street (aka Spoonbender) Also based in Stockholm Sweden. He has been working with wood for over twenty years all over the world, and he hates angles. One year ago a conversation between Rasmus Wingardh and Rob Street ended up turning into a full collaboration. It all started with an octagonal table and grew into a whole series of products. This event marks the launch of Rasmus and Rob’s first four products, namely the tables. “We wanted to design something that was rooted in art deco, had elements of the 50s and was a product of today all at once.” At first we had an abstract idea of what the tables would look like, we wanted to get defined lines on thetabletop. There where thoughts of using inlay and Rob came up with the idea of turning it into a puzzle of grains flowing together. Rasmus started to play with how the lines would meet and the different pieces finally took shape. It wasn’t all about the tabletops though. A very large amount of time was spent on leg design. We felt we wanted to give each table its own unique design and identity. We have the “X legs” of the coffee table. The splayed legs on the dining table. The quad pod for the kitchen table and last but certainly not least, the almost impossible angles of the inverted legs for the side table. So I say again. A loooot of time was put into this process. The tops are however where its all at. The tops are a mosaic parquet of birch plywood from 30mm to 40mm in thickness. This makes them feel very solid, yet with all the angles on the sides, this creates the illusion of something very delicate. This was actually the key throughout the whole process, not just with the tabletops. In fact it was the dominant reason behind most of the leg designs, since they needed to be stable, yet looking beautiful. All this being said, the most important thing for us, was to create a beautiful hand crafted piece of furniture. We hope and believe that we have done this.
