My preference for mods & rules can be best described as "uncomfortably realistic" (but still balanced; not excessively tedious). My game usually simulates living in the United States under late stage capitalism, with upward mobility being extremely challenging, while the Sims in the higher tax brackets have expanded opportunities to keep getting richer in legal (and less than legal) ways. I like using the Sims to explore and work through my frustrations, rather than escape, and my modded game reflects this. Having grown up with The Sims 1, I do enjoy the humor that arises from juxtaposing our cruel real world societies with the inherent goofiness of The Sims. I love searching for those cozy, funny, fluffy moments in between the stress of my Sims' lives.

I had the most bizarre dream last night that I was helping Nervous Subject calm down and lock all his doors because he was being actively stalked and harassed by Miranda Sings and Jojo Siwa’s mom. They were standing right outside trying to break in, and the house had like 5 or 6 flimsy doors leading outside. It was terrifying.

Xander enjoys a swim in the ocean. It’s free… And breathtaking! He looks longingly at that beach mansion in the distance, and wonders… Who lives there? One day… If all goes well… He could live in a house like that too…

It's summer, the house has no air conditioning, and the bathroom has quick access to cool water, so...

Xander barely has any furniture, nor does he have plans of acquiring any, so he just sits on the floor when using his laptop.

Ah, the futility of trying to do laundry on a lot without a laundry machine.

I think Xander is often shirtless in his house because he has no AC and it's hot in the summer... Or maybe he ran out of clean clothes.

I was giving Xander a CAS and BB makeover... I didn't want to change too many of his outifts though. I noticed the bed + end table + lamp he brought from home all look like furniture his parents bought from when he was a kid that he never changed out. Well, it's a perfectly good bed... Why spend money on a new one...

The same can be said for some of his EA clothes. I can't bring myself to change his underwater/fish design boxers!

Now he did invest in some of that wall art. He's convinced it's important...

Buster suggests turning Xander’s old room into a hobby room for Bessie.

Up next I’m going to attempt some more scripted story content. This is very much a casual hobby for me so if it’s too hard I might just call it off or be inconsistent with the format. 😅

I’m just very excited to share what’s been going on with Xander, and everything his parents don’t know about, and think it could be a good chance to practice visual storytelling.

I have no plans to start or continue a long running story, but I like the idea of shorter one offs to flesh out the lives of these Sims and my headcanons, or retell things that have actually happened (so when I’m playing I’m not busy taking cinematic style screenshots!).

This first story I’m working on revolves around Xander Clavell and Ayesha Ansari’s relationship, tentatively titled “A Wonderful Love Story.” I’ve been giggling writing and thinking about it. I haven’t felt this excited in a long time. 🤭

Poor Xander is having a really hard time. Having to start living on his own is stressful, sure, but she suspects there’s something more… Something he isn’t telling her.

It’s not even Xander’s fault that he doesn’t have a laundry machine at home yet has a laundry hamper. Because I put it there. It is a sure fire way to doom inactive sims to a nasty home.

The toilet though…

I keep using Build Buy at night with Night Light on, and when I look back at the screenshots in the daytime the wall colors are so off 😅

Meet Kitty Clavell.

Kitty was a stray who kept napping on their deck chairs. Bessie took a liking to her and adopted her.

She helps fills the Xander-shaped hole in Bessie’s chest a bit… Ever since they kicked him out. Of course she didn’t want to, but Buster did…

Buster doesn’t really care for the cat, as “it’s damn loud,” but Kitty seems to make Bessie happy, so he tolerates it.

Nowhere near as loud as Xander!

They’ve got a nice deck now, too.

Too bad Buster already kicked Xander out. He would have loved the hot tub.

Update

All old screenshots have been caught up now! Going forward, posts will feature current gameplay in the present day! My Sunset Valley is currently in Year 4, Summer*.

If you want to see more of any sim/household, feel free to comment on any of my posts. I adore all the pre-mades, so suggestions to check in on any that I've been forgetting about are always welcome.

That Reshade preset is still coming. It still needs tweaking. I've mostly only had time to play late at night, and I have that Windows Night Light color shifting feature turned on so my eyes don't cry, which makes the color too inaccurate for me to judge anyway.

*Every season in my game is 30 sim days (making a year 120 sim days), and all the sims' ages are scaled to be 1 real life year = 1 sim year. It's a very long lifespan, but it's great for jumping around through all the households I feel like without having to worry about counting rotation days.

Also this smoking mod is unstoppable. These Sims can barely function without their cigarettes. Need to adjust tuning again...
