Biker Queen
Harley Sportster CafĆØ Racer 57 by Matt Black Custom Design
Here's what Anthony Partridge from Matte Black customs had to say about their 'Cafe Racer 57':
"The bike started life as 2 bikes. A 2003 883 Harley Davidson Sportster and a 2006 Suzuki GSXR 600 Track bike. It was supposed to be a quick in and out project build. The plan was to just put the forks and wheels of the GSXR on the sporty, but as you can see I took it a wee bit further than that."
"The build took over a year as the project kept evolving and changing and had to be fit in around many other builds. In the end the Cafe Racer 57 became our prototype and test bed for research and development that is now going to be our own Matt Black "Cafe Racer" bolt on kit for all models of Harley Davidson Sportster."
What exactly did that build include? Well for starters Matt Black upgraded the Sporty's 883cc v-twin to a 1200cc capacity with an Andrews cam, S&S Super E carb and a Crane Ignition system. The standard loom was replaced by a Motogadget M Unit system and and a matching Motogadget Speedo was mounted to the V-rod headlight up front. The triple trees are a Matt Black custom made part as is the rear swingarm and the exhaust system that vents to a MIVV Ghibli race muffler.
The stock GSXR forks have had their internals upgraded using parts from Maxtons in the UK and the WR26 rear shocks are also Maxton made. LSL clipon bars with Puig levers sit high on the fork uppers and all of the wiring has been run internally wherever possible. The wheels are stock GSXR items that have been treated to an overhaul and a fresh set of Pirelli Supercorsa SC street legal track tires. The tank started out as a aluminium Norton Manx unit that was modified to sit on the Harley frame and the tail and seat are hand made parts that will soon be available as part of the Matt Black Sportster Cafe Racer kit. "The final touch was kickass paint work done by our in house painter Ray Hill (Spray Hill), who has made a name for himself as one of the best in the industry, painting for Chip Foose and many other world class car and bike builders around the globe."

Royal Enfield Based 998cc Musket V-Twin
Aniket Vardhan is an Indian in USA, who has built the first 998cc Royal Enfield based V-Twin engine, which he calls the 998 Musket V-Twin, as a custom project using two Bullet 500cc engines. This is the second engine built by the guy whose first project, called the 700 Musket V-Twin, was a 700cc V-Twin engine built out of two Bullet 350cc engines. He started working on this project many years ago, underwent years of training in machining and design development and slowly completed his dream project.
This extremely beautiful looking engine uses maximum amount of standard Bullet parts in keeping with the philosophy of Royal Enfield to keep the engineering very simple with beautiful craftsmanship. The basic engine heads and internals are standard parts with a custom build crankcase. It has very vintage looking oil pipes made out of copper giving it very elegant, beautiful and old school appearance. The engine is currently mounted on an old Bullet 500 chassis for testing.
Aniket is designing and building the custom frame and other required components for the custom bike, just like the older 700 Musket V-Twin which is up and running and is road legal as well. As amazing as the engine looks, it sounds incredible as well and promises to be quite a performer. When all the parts for the machine will be ready, we can hope that the finished product will be as beautiful as the engine.
With competition for Royal Enfield from rivals getting tougher with India-specific products from Harley Davidson and the likes of Triumph and Moto Guzzi, they too need to buck up and face the competition. With so much talent and amazing custom work happening in USA by the maker of this Musket V-Twin, Royal Enfield should take inspiration and start building bigger and more ambitious bikes.

Rajputana Customs āNandiā
This bike, believe it or not, was a wedding gift. No, it wasnāt on the gift registry but the soon-to-be groom Subhayou Nayak decided to buy himself a little present before the big day. Smart guy. So he commissioned Vijay Singh and his team at Rajputana Customs in India to build him something special. The brief for the bike was pretty straight forward. āSubhayou specified that he wanted an old-school-looking fatty, with a 300mm rear tyre and a Royal Enfield 500cc engineā said Vijay. Apart from that, they could pretty much do what they wanted.
Vijay and co-workers spent two solid months building everything on this bike which they then named āNandiā (after the bull in Hindu mythology that Shiva rides and is protected by). āThe thing with building custom bikes here in India and more so at Rajputana Customs is that every bike is literally built from scratch, the chassis, gas tanks, hubs, rims, sprockets, jack shafts, springers, girders⦠and the list goes onā says Vijay. āApart from the engine and tyres we pretty much build everything in-house. Itās an āeventfulā learning experience.ā
Rajputana Customs are receiving some worldwide attention for the motorcycles they are building. Sure, the fat tyre on Nandi might not be to everyones taste but thereās no denying this is a beautiful piece of workmanship and one very cool bike. We canāt wait to see what they build next.
