Song of the Week: April II
Shugo Tokumaru - “Hikageno”
This is a very sweet track from Shugo Tokumaru. It reminds me a lot of the romance of older Cymbals Eat Guitars, yet it’s combined with Tokumaru’s adventurousness when it comes to instrumentation. With xylophones, guiros, shredding guitars and horns “Hikageno” leaves me very excited for his new album.
Thom Browne F/W 2012
A lot of great music last month! Here’s a playlist of me faves :)
Song of the Week: April I
Calvin Harris feat. Young Thug, Pharrell, Ariana Grande - “Heatstroke”
I can’t say I’m the biggest Calvin Harris fan but when he’s padding his songs with this much talent it’s hard to resist. And unlike “Slide” (which I also love), Harris avoids using that horrible generic pop synth lead and instead showcases his fun bass playing. Young Thug, Pharrell and Ariana Grande provide the real meat here, with each of them doing what they do best. Our first summer anthem?
Song of the Week: March IV
Gorillaz feat. Popcaan - “Saturnz Barz”
Popcaan brings some much-needed grit to the Gorillaz and the two create a spellbinding force. The melodic sweetness of Popcaan’s hook is superbly matched with his show-stopping growl in the latter half of his verse. Very excited to hear how Humanz will turn out.
Song of the Week: March III
Drake - “Passionfruit”
I love a Drake track where he doesn’t sound like he’s desperate to prove something. His voice also sounds so smooth and surprisingly sentimental here. And this beat is so wonderfully chill, the type of beat that is just begging to be turned into a 1-hour homework mix.
Song of the Week: March II
Frank Ocean - “Chanel”
This song is so replayable! It really showcases the expressive range of his voice in dizzying and lovely way. One of my most listened songs this year and it just came out.
Don’t think too much.
Song of the Week: March I
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - “Billabong Valley”
