Clary used her ferrokinesis to bend his sword to avoid it from hitting her. “Is that all you got, Pearson? Try to use metal against a ferrokinetic?”

“Oh powers huh?” Ronnie shot back, pulling the knife he was hiding in a sheath behind his back and bringing it up to her neck swiftly before she had time to think about it, “Too slow,” He added and the small weeds growing out from the ground shot up when he glanced down at them to wrap around her wrists tightly.

“Yeah, but we’re going to the mess hall. Who are you going to fight there?”

“Yeah but I’m coming from the arena and there are too many hands who like to take things that don’t belong to them for me to trust leaving it there.”

“Thank you,” Emma answered, holding her cup over to him. “I’m sorry, people just seem to have a really bad habit of not refilling the pot. I didn’t feel like starting the day off like that again, you know?”

Ronnie poured her a coffee and then took a sip of his own, “Is it you who’s been leaving those passive aggressive notes about refilling the pot?” He asked teasingly.

“I’m desperate. I thought you were just standing there to stand there, I would have pushed you,” She confessed, “Is there enough there for both of us?” Emma then asked, trying to see around him. 

“There’s plenty,” Ronnie said, pouring himself a cup and then turning to pour one for her, “There you go.”

Clary threw a Chinese Ring Dagger at him, narrowly missing his ear, on propose. She smirked, unsheathed another dagger. “It’s on, Pearson.”

Ronnie took a step forward, pushing his sword forward toward her.

“I wasn’t expecting anything from you at all so what I got was pretty good.”

“But I am still younger and I will milk that… forever really,” she admitted with a grin in return. “Smart boy,” Kendall teased. “How are you celebrating your birthday this year?”

“Only by a year,” Ronnie pointed out, “I can’t wait to see how you’ll take turning thirty,” He teased, “I don’t know. We’re kinda trapped in camp so I'll mostly have to do what I normally do but include cake and presents.”

Lilian was glad that he agreed with her, she didn’t want to be paired with someone who went looking for danger. As unlikely as it was for them, Lily just wanted to live. “Maybe we will get a new camper instead of a monster,” She suggested, looking out into the forest as they reached the border, looking for any movement. “I never asked, how was your life outside of camp?”

“A new camper wouldn’t be so bad,” Ronnie said with a shrug, “It was pretty good. The usual. Got into trouble at school - a lot - partied loads, came to camp. My mom got remarried when I was thirteen so my family isn’t too bad either. What about you?”

“I’m getting coffee,” Ronnie said, “Why?”

“Now I know I’m speaking to the right person,” Ronnie said, “I think I still look quite youthful though, don’t you?”

Maybe she shouldn’t have asked, Lily didn’t like the answer. She knew it was their duty as children of the Gods but Lily was waiting for the day someone would say, ‘Gotcha!’ and everything would be okay again. “Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping it was a bunny.” 

“Yeah, me too,” Ronnie said with a shrug. Hopefully he and Kendall could use her connections with the recruiters could help them get something for them to work with. He hated her being in danger like that but she could handle herself, “Here we are,” He said as they reached the border, “I’m hoping for nothing to happen but at the same time, watches can get very boring when nothing does.”
