She looked at him and paused he was buttering her up now. Weighing his words. He was telling her what he thought she wanted to hear. Torania frowned. “That had not been what he had been doing before when he made her happy.” She should really get mad at him now. She should really accuse him of buttering her up and go on with her plan. But she didn’t want to. Some part of her didn’t want to.
There had been something in him that She liked. and contrary to her intensity and fierceness the fact was Torania would rather have that then the type of hate she had thought she would have to doom herself to. It had been when he opened himself up hadn’t it? How could she make him do that again? Perhaps she had to open herself up in turn. That was a scary idea in and of itself but she would do it.
Torania took a deep breath and shed her acts. The intenseness she worse about her like a cloak dropping in a single instant. When she looked up at him for a single moment it was like a doe in the lamplight. “You asked before if I am nervous… I’m not. I’m bloody terrified. I’ve never before wanted a man’s touch. Or even a woman’s. You can see how that might complicate any… marriage.” She took a deep breath a bit of the intensity but not the hostility coming back on. “Politics are a cage. I know what I was taught but mostly I tried to avoid that trap.”
Alistair wasn’t sure what it was he had said, but clearly it wasn’t the right thing: for she wasn’t afraid to show this. Perhaps she didn’t want to get to know him better, but that was sort of contradictory to what she had said just moments before. By The Maker, this was confusing. For a moment he thought that he might’ve actually preferred her hating him - at least he wouldn’t be walking on eggshells.
The words that followed were even more surprising, for she seemed to actually be opening up to him.. he wasn’t too sure in what to do at this moment. Apologize? --- that didn’t seem right. ❛ We don’t have to.. uh, touch, you know. I’m more than fine with having a friend by my side, if nothing more. ❜ that’s actually.. probably what he wanted. At first, at least.

How had he been talked into coming to the pound, exactly? And now that he was here, Hawke had to stop and fawn over the small animals - the puppies in particular. There was no way he could take care of one. But at the same time… puppies. Cue putting his fingers into the cage for the soft fluffy monster to paw at and try to nibble on.
