bethsawyer:
her blonde hair, although shorter, was draped across her shoulders, covering the one piece of marked skin that could give them both the answer they wanted. beth couldn’t help rolling her eyes at reagan’s reply, bouncing an eyebrow, “now you’re not proposin’ to me already, are ya? ‘cause that’s mighty forward, if i do say so myself. reagan.” she wasn’t sure why the sound rolled off her tongue so well, but she liked the ring of it. squinting at the brunette’s share, beth’s voice broke into a more honest tone, “why? there’s gotta be better company here.”
“oh, absolutely not. i don’t even have a ring.” she teased, shrugging a little as she tried not to focus on the way beth saying her name sent a chill down her spine. “there might be, i don’t know. the way you’re looking in that dress, i’m not really inspired to look and see.”
nolanayer:
nolan nodded, impressed no matter how nonchalantly she described her profession. “what kind of book is it?” then he tilted his head to one side and let his considerations flow. “perhaps you’ll find some inspiration here in jericho; i’ve heard quite a few intriguing tidbits about the town.” after calling over the bartender, he nodded again. “i’m following your expert lead here.”
“it’s kind of a memoir, kind of a thriller... i won’t get into it.” it wasn’t something she liked to talk about -- falling in love with someone and then losing them too soon as a teenager. it sucked, but that was life. “yeah, i’ve been here for a little while. definitely interesting.”
bethsawyer:
beth felt a sense of pride. she figured a writer had heard every phrase in the book. “depends. you wanna keep up with me?” beth prompted in challenge, a daring eye passed over her shoulder towards the brunette. she refocused on the path ahead. “besides, i gotta give you somethin’ worth writin’ about. how am i gonna be the star of your next novel, huh? i get 50% profit, of course.” she took a drink, tasting rum beneath the sweet flavor. and when they landed at the food table, beth presented it to reagan with a grand flourish of her free arm, “tada! food fit for a king. or queen.”
“clearly.” she told her proudly, smiling as she kept her focus on beth and absolutely nothing else. she was enchanting, truly -- and she wondered if she knew that. “50% is very bold, beth. i’m pretty sure the only people who get 50% are spouses.” she teased, smiling widely as she saw a platter of pigs in a blanket. “feels like i was born to be here.” she told her, grabbing one and popping it into her mouth. “i gotta say, i’m glad you came.” she said as she chewed.
remyhq:
“drink me under the table you say?” he questioned, intrigued by the other’s display of arrogance. it matched his own, in a way. “well, then let’s see you prove it, darlin’.” he said, waving over the bartender and ordering two drinks.
“let’s do it.” she told him with a grin, taking the glass as soon as it was placed in front of her. she glanced over at him before downing the shot, setting the glass down and looking over at him. “easy.”
“mon cherie…” the woman started as she looked around, making sure that no one was in ear shot of them. “if you knew the things i wanted to do to you right now your dress would already be at your ankles.” ophelia shook her head with a smirk. the flirtatious banter was a staple in their relationship. the blonde slung her arm over reagan’s frame until it rested dangerously low on her waist. she honestly enjoyed her company and she liked to think it was mutual. sure, the intimate moments they shared were a lot more than that of two friends. she pointed to a nearby table covered in those tacky buffet trays. “i think they’ve got some of those corn dog things you were referring to.” ophelia would never reduce herself to carnival food in a sober state of mind. if she kept going at the same rate as the brunette, she’d be stuffing her face with them by the end of the night.
reagan grinned, shaking her head as she looked at the younger woman. “you’re trouble, aren’t you?” she teased, focused on her as she moved closer. maybe she shouldn’t have had that tequila before she left -- it was really starting to make her consider doing things that wouldn’t be the best for her reputation. “pigs in a blanket. very different from corndogs.” she corrected, a hand moving to brush ophelia’s hair behind her ear. “you should probably move your hand before we give everyone here a show.” she teased, patting the girl’s shoulder gently and heading towards the appetizers.
bethsawyer:
“y’know, your kind,” beth hummed, a casual curl of her lips following in suit. “hoity-toity, as plush as your uncle’s bear rug.” she reached for a drink on a nearby platter being walked around, appreciating the pause in thought. if beth didn’t know any better, she would’ve thought the fitting word for the brunette’s appearance was enticing. it unnerved her in some small way. as if she couldn’t help the thought. “thank you,” the blonde replied, eyeing her own self. the smirk turned into an amused grin, “a pantsuit would look even better. maybe that’s why i’m stickin’ to a dress. i’m tryin’ to bring home the bacon, not the pigs.” nodding her head eastward, beth encouraged reagan, “follow me.”
reagan couldn’t help letting out a laugh. “as plush as my uncle’s bear rug, right, of course.” she shook her head, wondering why she was so intrigued by the woman. maybe it was the accent. “the bacon, not the pigs.” she repeated, shaking her head a little as her smile remained. “i’m gonna have to learn these little phrases if i wanna keep up with you, huh?” she asked as she started to follow behind her.
nolanayer:
“you’re a writer?” he quirked a curious eyebrow as they neared the treasure trove of beverages. “if you don’t mind my asking, what kind of work do you do?” he wasn’t certain if he should nod or shake his head at the question, and so he ended up doing some strange combination of both. “i meant advice on how to best take advantage of the open bar, but the cozy sausages are just as important as well.”
“i am, yes.” she told him, shrugging. “i just write, i don’t know. i have a book out that’s done pretty well, so my editor wants me to write another one, but i don’t know if i will. it’s all up in the air right now.” she moved to sit at the bar, looking over at him. “drinks and then cozy sausages?”
liqucrlipss:
“oh i better be.” ophelia cooed before taking a sip of her drink. she looked the brunette over from head to toe. “that’s a nice dress.” the immediate chemistry between the two women was relaxing. something about the woman always felt so familiar. she regarded her more like a friend than a patron. ophelia could only hope that the feeling was mutual. their conversations never ventured into the soulmate territory but when that day inevitably came, the girl wanted to maintain a friendship. “have you decided who’s going to take it off later? i vote the waiter carrying the shrimp cocktail.”
“why would i go for the shrimp cocktail waiter when you’re here?” she asked bluntly, noticing the way the girl had looked her over. their chemistry was something that was undeniable, and she found that comforting in a town where she didn’t know everyone and mostly tried to keep to herself. “unless you’re busy...?”
nolanayer:
“the pleasure is all mine, ms. wheeler. and it isn’t too late for you to offer one,” he replied, returning the gesture and shrugging all the while. his expression was half-sheepish. “i can only name about five places around town confidently— two of which are city hall and my home.” he started on the way toward the bar and continued, “for the moment, perhaps you can advise me on how to best take advantage of the number one reason for your attendance this evening.”
“well, then... i owe you a tour. even though i’m pretty sure you only really need to know five places in this town. once i get writing, i stick to my house, so... i get it.” she walked with him towards the bar, laughing a little. “what, the cozy sausages?”
remyhq:
he couldn’t help but grin at the fact that he’d been able to make her blush. if only his sixteen-year-old self could see him now, he’d about have died and gone to heaven. “bourbon.” he replied, taking yet another sip from the drink. “care to join me, if you can handle it, of course.”
she scoffed, shaking her head as the smile stayed on her face. “if i can handle it, huh? i could drink you under a table, babe. but if you wanna pretend it’ll be hard to keep up, i’ll let you.”
