            he chirps along in conversation, dark gaze tearing from it’s unwavering cognizance of the minor nuances that he recognizes from his friend that would be otherwise indiscernible to a stranger, perhaps; tendou loves to pride himself in his ability to read people. where tendou might have apologized for overstepping boundaries in the past, he felt comfortable speaking on delicate topics.     ❝ what about your mother then? your father is the one who taught you volleyball, if my memory serves me correctly & it /always/ does. ❞

“ that is what he says. “   and at the latter half of tendou’s exclamation, the corner’s of ushijima’s lips pull upwards in the smallest grin.   “ thank you. i am proud of the progress you have made as well. “   and he means it, as he does with everything he says. but there’s an extra bit of sentiment there, the redheaded boy meant a lot to him after all. and maybe that made him slightly biased.

“ he did, yes. i have been told that my mother and i are very similar in our mannerisms. she was not very fond of eccentricities but is supportive of my career choice, which i am grateful for. “

he nods along with wakatoshi’s words . his friend , right , they are best friends ! as declared by yours truly , tendou . his nodding slows with every addition to the plans , eyes that were once squeezed shut with blissful alleviation open to blink , disoriented & perplexed by the complexity of it all . a pause, as he gauges tendou’s reaction. he seems to be taking this well. perhaps even more excited than usual. internally, ushijima nods to himself. it seems his belated gift is a success, at least in it’s early stages. it would be foolish to call it a success overall right now. he’ll have to wait until the end of their day.
