while i do understand the general pessimism regarding caitlyns arc, if she'll really be redeemed, and caitvi getting together. Alex Seaver (arcanes soundtrack composer) explicitly says that he's so excited for caits arc and that already says a lot. This is coming from someone who didnt relate to her at all in s1 and now saying that she has one of the best arcs? Guys we'll be fine.

Oh, I wonder if we’re going to hear Caitlyn’s name being said at all during her low arc, or if she’s going to disappear completely into being Commander Kiramman.

She doesn’t even want this power or position, in fact this is everything she’s been trying to get away from but she’s so broken at this point. She’s not even angry anymore, just completely checked out and accepting the role because, of course. She’s a Kiramman, she’ll never escape being a Kiramman, and she believes the only person who’s ever seen her for being Caitlyn betrayed her, doesn’t love her (as much as she loves her sister). If she can’t be loved for Caitlyn, the next closest thing is to be respected for being a Kiramman.

She really is acting just like Jinx, retreating into the worst part of herself because she believes that’s all anyone sees anyway.

Also thematically I love the contrasting parallels where Powder/Jinx’s final moments in season 1 ep 3 are loud; screaming, sobbing, while Caitlyn is completely silent/mute for hers. Powder actively embraces (Silco) her change, while Caitlyn passively allows it (Ambessa) to cloak her.

So if I were to take away from this moment something deeper than “man Sevika's a freak”, I'd point out that we've seen the same tactic not long before.

What does this say about Caitlyn? She's fighting dirty. She's fighting like a cornered rat. She's fighting like a Zaunite.

And first of all there's hypocrisy. Caitlyn's been calling these people animals and monsters and whatnot but when placed in an identical situation she responds identically. Case in point: getting so mad at Jinx for terrorizing people out of grief that she goes ahead and starts to terrorize people out of grief. Sevika's expression afterwards is mostly “joke's on you I'm into that” but there's some surprise there too — you wouldn't expect that move from a Piltie.

Then there's desperation. Because she needs revenge; she needs it or she'll never ever forgive herself for what happened. So she'll throw away her morals and her dignity and just do whatever it takes to achieve the goal, whether it means chomping on someone like a feral raccoon or becoming a military dictator… which puts her in the same mindset as Zaunites, all of whom are desperate to survive and a lot of whom could never afford morals and dignity in the first place.

the first three episodes of arcane s2 have done a fucking PHENOMENAL job at reminding us exactly who caitlyn is and where she stands.

in season 1 she’s presented as this plucky rookie cop who just wants to do good. she gets vi out of jail after she sees that she was arrested for nothing, she sneaks around behind the councils back, she’s fighting with her parents. can’t you see, she’s just trying to help!

then season 2 absolutely wallops you over the head with her actual position. she’s not some random rookie cop with a heart of gold. she’s caitlyn. fucking. KIRRAMAN. her family basically run the city. she *is* privilege. she’s rich and she’s powerful and she bloody well knows it. at every turn in the first three episodes someone reminds us who she is and the power the kirraman name holds (if it’s not caitlyn herself). why is she here? she’s a kirraman. why are we letting her do this? she’s a kirraman. why won’t you stop her? she’s a kirraman. why is she calling the shots? SHES A KIRRAMAN. they don’t let you forget who she is. not like in season 1. vi is the only person allowed to forget who she is. vi calls her “cait” and everyone else bends a knee. ITS SO FUCKING GOOD
