She still watched over him and listened to his own confused words and kept floating before finally quietly setting herself down on black bandaged wrapped feet. Armani looks a bit to the side but gaze never leaving his as she keeps quiet for a moment. “Yeah,” her voice was quiet as it trying not to be too loud when she was just really nervous on who she stumbled across. “I didn’t mean to come in. Practicing some magic and got a spell wrong… Uhm.” Usually she would have just barged out like it was intentional but she still stayed and wondered what would happen. She had heard stories from Toland of the same situation s he was suddenly thrusted into and usually things turned out well for him! Why not for her, too?
She wasn’t wearing shoes. That caught his eye before other details about her person. She must rarely walk if she only wore gauze on her feet. He blinked as he stared back at her staring back at him. She was quite the curious and skittish little thing.
He listened to her explanation and cocked his head to the opposite side as he arched an eyebrow.
⟨ I think it was a Hive ritual. ⟩ The voice of his Ghost, once named Pulled Pork and long since renamed to Aier, the Awoken word for Light, murmured in his mind. Uldren exhaled deeply and made a low, soft, growling sound.
⟨ You know how I despise having you in my thoughts like this, ⟩ he said in internally. Ghosts and Guardians were granted the unique ability to telepathically speak with one another through the Traveler’s Grace and the Gift of the Light. Whether it was a happy accident or deliberate side effect of the symbiotic bond between the representative of the Traveler and the Traveler’s Chosen was a subject still being debated among the Warlock orders.
⟨ I’m sorry, ⟩ Aier whispered, sounding clearly abashed. ⟨ I didn’t think you’d want her to know what I was telling you. ⟩
Uldren closed both eyes and sighed again. ⟨ You’re quite right. Hive, then? ⟩ He took in a deep breath and held it. ⟨ There is something Hive-like about her. ⟩ He opened his eyes and looked off to one side. ⟨ Thank you, Aier, ⟩ he mentally told the Ghost.
He swore he could feel the happiness from the machine when he showed it gratitude. It wasn’t a contrivance, either. He was grateful to Aier for the information and for much, much more.
He did actually care for the Ghost, more than he would ever left anyone know.
Uldren finished taking off the primary pieces of his armor and sat down in a nearby armchair, dropping into it inelegantly, hooking a leg up and over an armrest. “I suppose it’s just as well that you didn’t wind up phased into anything solid, then,” he stated matter of factly. He slouched down and rested his head in one hand. “Is that how it works? Some form of matter transmission? Or are the Hive even more direct with their mode of travel from alpha to beta?” He illustrated his question by taking his free hand and lazily drawing a line in the air with his index finger.
