I will get us started with one of mine...​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ A few years back my hubs (then BF) was getting ready for his work to be shut down. He decided it was a great time for a weekend away - just us. He arranged for someone to watch my daughter and set everything up. And I mean EVERYTHING. I was so beyond excited for this. He had been away for work and wouldn't give me many hints. At the time, being the war buff he is and the nerds we both are, we were having fun with apps and make your own enigma machines. He gave me a couple hints - it was near another location of his company, in the province of Ontario, and the capital...of something. That had me narrowing it to 3 options...Niagara Falls (honeymoon capital), Toronto (capital of Ontario) or Ottawa (capital of Canada).​​​​​​​​ He even gave me the name of the place we were going but only through the enigma. That hint didnt help - I didnt crack it in time.​​​​​​​​ We did have an amazing weekend away in Ottawa visiting some of my favourite places from when I was living there, a new restaurant with delicious food and orgasmic chocolate truffles. Followed with going to a live theatre production of one of my favourite plays. ​​​​​​​​ I even brought a surprise of my own for him (hint - it had lace and garters)​​​​​​​​ There are no photos of that weekend away. Why is it so hard to talk about ourselves sometimes?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was asked yesterday by someone...so what do you do?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Don't get me wrong, I know what I do and I freaking LOVE it but sometimes I just don't know how to share it with people. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How do I put into words the heart of what I do?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I look at someone like my mentor @janakingsford and there's no doubt she is the ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That title suits her perfectly!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As for me, I'm still in search of mine. I will not lie and say 2020 has been easy.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Beyond the pandemic and all the changes, it brought with it...It has been my biggest year of falling down.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Friendships ended⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Relationships struggled⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The path ahead became unclear⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fear and pain my only constant⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I tried desperately to hold on to what I knew, what I had, and who I was trying to be.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Then last month I read a book that shifted so much for me, by @rebeccathoughts⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This right here changed everything...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "Let the shattering occur, for the shattering allows the pieces to rearrange all by themselves"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm no longer holding on with a death grip scared to feel things trying to slip away. "Don't look back, you're not going that way"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hands up who has heard this phrase⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I've been hearing it for years, knowing that I have a bad habit of living in the past and in the future rarely being fully present in the now.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But, like so many of these phrases, there is value in the saying....but there is a caveat as well.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let's break this down.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are constantly looking at the past, living in the past, it's beyond difficult to move forward in the here and now. In your big dreams for the future. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you are stuck back there...you will keep sabotaging your potential with your doubts, your fears, and your old stories.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You deserve better!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I will NEVER say you should never look back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reflection is such a HUGE part of evolution. If you can't look back a little, you can't...⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1) Celebrate your wins⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2) See your growth⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3) Recognize the lessons & move past old stories⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So where is the balance?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Live in the Present. Be present. Anchor into all the beautiful moments. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Look toward the future. Dream bigger then big. Get excited for everything that is already on it's way to you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But make time to look back, briefly, at the recent past to anchor into the good, find evidence of your success (and of the fact that and uncover the old stories that no longer serve you. It's not hard to look at the world right now and see the pain, the frustration, the unhappiness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's easy to get pulled into those same feelings - we all do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But I choose not to stay there. Instead I feel what I feel without judgement, I observe the situation, and I remind myself of how I want to feel.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "True manifestations are powered by service and love"⠀(from the by @gabbybernstein)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To create the world I imagine for myself, my family, the people I care about and our world overall, I choose again always returning to love and service.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Why? This morning I went off to a last minute hot yoga class.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's my third one this week. It's new. It's challenging. But the way my body feels after, the time with my thoughts - it's amazing!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In today's class we hugged our knees in and our instructor started talking about how we all need more hugs right now, and they are harder to come by. How we could send and receive that love ourselves or send that hug out to someone else who might need it right now.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ My gut instinct is always to send love out to others - to my hubs or kiddo. To my friends. To people I know are hurting.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today however, I didn't judge - I just went with my gut. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Today I sent that love inward. To myself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I focused on being grateful to myself for taking steps forward.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I recognized the shifts that were happening in my self image.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I sent love to my body for allowing me to move through these new practices. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I sent love to my soul for not doubting and questioning everything but following the nudge.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I was proud of myself for showing up, for doing the work.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I sent love to myself for being confident enough to remove my baggy shift midway through class without judgement.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Where are you so focused on what you should do?
