âWe should really try to finish this soon.â Alaric wrote. âThe library is getting darker.â He wrote. He sighed. They had been working continuously to end it.
âHavenât we all?â Aurelius smiled in response, âHow about we venture into Hogsmeade at some point? Well, apart from my studies, Iâve been looking at ways to start my dream job. Iâve recently recieved a letter from the Wizardsâ bank in Egypt about Curse Breaking. Iâve yet to open it.â
âWe should really try to finish this soon.â Alaric wrote. âThe library is getting darker.â He wrote. He sighed. They had been working continuously to end it.
Aurelius smiled softly, mostly to himself. He was glad to have met Alaric; the other Male was proving to be a great friend. âHow have things been, by the way? I feel that out time has taken with studying for these examinations.â
Aurelius looked at the lining of the trees, trying his best to ignore the weird grin the Caretaker was giving him. Next to him, Hagrid was being briefed by Professors Dumbledore and Flickwick. Rubbing his hands together, he turned to address the other detentionee. âSo, what did they get you in for?â
Dorlores looked over at him, side-eying but not viciously as he spoke. âI donât have to tell them. They should know.â She grunted. âBut no, thatâs not key. If youâre doing something bad you admit to something small, unpublishable but frowned upon. Much better of a case then just saying youâre innocent.â She replied, keeping her eyes forwards. âBut Iâm sure you already know that.â
âAh, of course. But must we forget that people lack... the proper brain cells to realise that.â Aurelius felt like humouring her for a while. It was a great distracted from his own troubles. Besides, he was aware of who she was thanks to the school papers. âSometimes the smallest of crimes make the biggest impact, no? Crime and punishment has always been drilled into me from being a baby. My father always brought his work home,â he nodded. âCriminals are always weeded out amongst a crowd of innocence eventually. It saves us time to admit such things.â

Aurelius allowed a breathy laugh leave his lips at her words. It was due to the disbelief of this happening and it somewhat scared him. He was glad, though, that they were able to bring things forward. Even if it was a tiny step - it was better than nothing. It was truly amazing. âAlways,â he added after coming down from the clouds.
âIâll miss you.â Edie sighed. She lifted her gaze from their hands to him. She desperately wanted to smile, to find joy in this blissful moment, but a pang of sadness was looming over her. It was only earlier that week sheâd received the most important owl imaginable to her. The confirmation that sheâd been successful in gaining a position at the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary. Overjoyed, sheâd near pranced around the Slytherin dungeon, gaining many a dirty look. She didnât care. It was and always would be her dream job, but it did come with its sacrifices. Leaving behind those she held dear, Eli being on of them. Breaking her hand from his, she reached into her pocket and passed him the letter.
Aurelius found, confused by her words. What did she mean by sheâd miss him? That was she handed him a letter and he read through the hand-written text. A small smile aligned his lips as he gazed back over to her. âThis is what youâve always wanted. Iâm so happy for you,â his voice cracked despite himself. He would miss her all the same. âAt least we have now,â he quietly added, hoped etched in his tone. Edith deserved this, he told himself. He did have his own future too. âI... I too got a letter... Iâve not opened it yet though... from Gringotts Bank in Egypt. I havenât had the chance to open it.â Not many people knew about Aureliusâ dreams of becoming a Curse Breaker. He had only applied for an apprenticeship after all.
rebelliousaureliousxox:
âComplicated is certainly the right word Iâd use here,â a nervous chuckle left his lips. That was exactly how he felt when he was around Edith. She seemed to have this spell on him. It was even stronger than the enchantments protecting the castle. That was how strongly he had fallen for her. It was unexpected and Aurelius just couldnât shake it off, no matter what he did.
âSomething like that,â he agreed with a smile. Aurelius was actually glad that his parents werenât putting anymore pressure on him. Their attentions were slowly shifting over to Arian and Adara. A true blessing in disguise he had thought. The two deserved their parentsâ times too. That was the only thing he and Astor agreed upon these days. He felt he and his twin brother was⌠drifting apart. It sometimes stung to know that.
When he heard Gilderoy mention cooties, an exasperated sigh left his lips. âI have⌠Girls donât haveâŚâ Aurelius grinned despite himself, âAlthough, I sometimes wish it would be better if we were ten again. Feelings just complicate things.â He didnât like it at all and he wasnât sure how to get past this. For now, he would settle for laughing it off as much as he could.
That was what disbelief did to you, he supposed. âY⌠yeah. Sheâs a Slytherin,â he muttered in response. He felt his cheeks warm up as he realised that his gaze was obvious. âHer name is Edith, by the way. Edith Borgin.â
âChildhood was a time we all took for granted but life goes on and if there are feelings its because weâre good enough to handle them.â Or so he liked to believe. Feelings were tricky and even more burdensome if it took a while to figure out what they were trying to tell you. âI kind of like being the age that we are now, we have a lot more freedom and I donât have to play tea party with my sisters.â He smiled as the joke left him before nodding as he listened to the other.Â
âEdith?â The name was familiar to him although there wasnât much about her that he could recall. It was her surname that had him thinking about the shop in Knockturn Alley that so many mislead wizards and witches frequented. âWhat about her caught your eye?â His inquiry held genuine interest as he focused in on Aurelius as the girls walked away. âThat is if you donât mind telling me.âÂ
âYouâre a lot wiser than what most give you credit for,â Aurelius observed with a small smile. He meant it as a compliment and hoped that was how Gilderoy will take it. âTea parties? My sister preferred playing dress up and being a hairdresser.â A small chuckle left his lips - Adara used to insist on attempting to put scrunches in his mass of curls. Their mother often discouraged as she loved her boysâ curls.
âI think itâs due to her being unique and her ambitions.â In all fairness, Aurelius saw through the facade of others. The more he got to know Edith, the more he fell for her. He just couldnât help and he certainly knew he hadnât felt for anyone else that way. âPlus she has the most beautiful eyes and hair that Iâve ever seen on anyone.â
rebelliousaureliousxox:
Aurelius was confused when the other male mentioned that it was interesting. He didnât know how his surname could be that interesting. There again, he felt his fatherâs business was rather dull. Just being confined to one place wasnât appealing to him after all.
When Rodolphus spoke, Aurelius had to resist the urge of shrugging. He had forged a nonchalant way of thinking about his fatherâs business. âHeâd be honoured to hear those words,â he drawled easily - his tone was flat as if he used that script before. That line was always saved for clients. âIt falls to either myself or⌠my twin brother, Astor. Iâm sure you know of him.â Aureliusâ was placed into Slytherin, of course. Their parents werenât bothered by their houses. It was more of reputation they cared for, after all.
âUnder⌠understood,â he affirmed. The less Edith knew about this, the better. He didnât want her to loose a friend. Especially one who truly cared about her. Not that he would say that to the other, that was no the main matter here. âShe⌠she doesnât have to knowâŚâ Aurelius moved to take his leave when he heard the remark about his father. It took him every strength not to let his anger get the better of him. âHe doesnât⌠have to know about our exchange either,â he stuttered politely.
The smallest of smirks lined Rodolphusâ lips when he heard the Aurelius speak to him once more. It had been expected for the other to simply depart without voicing anything else, it was routine and yet the boy had broken out of it. Interesting had been a word he used before and it only seemed to suite him the longer Rodolphus was in his company. âPerhaps not but weâll see how everything carries out and daddy might just never know we spoke.â He toyed as his gaze stayed on the other.Â
âI suggest you leave now before I have a change of heart.â In truth, Rodolphus never liked it when Edith was upset with him but he imagined she would understand that he had given Aurelius a chance to leave. If anything, he was a man that gave an endless amount of opportunities to people who didnât entirely deserve them. âGood-bye Alderney.â Simple words that ended a necessary conversation.
Aurelius wasnât sure he wanted his father to know, regardless. He would have disapproved of his feelings anyway. That man probably had someone lined up for him. Or was it his mother? She seemed meddlesome in his affairs these days. As much as he loved her, he was starting to feel smothered. Perhaps that was a part of growing up? Even the bigger of mummyâs boys could outgrow the attention. Besides, his younger siblings deserved centre stage.
âUn... understand,â he muttered. Despite the slight stutter, he forged politeness perfectly. That was how used to entertaining his fatherâs he was. Some bored him and others got on his nerves but he was able to play along. Or at least not alarm them. âSame to yourself, Lestrange,â he nodded curtly as he turned away. Aurelius hoped that he wouldnât have to cross paths with Rodolphus again.
Evan was tossing a small ball in the air repeatedly trying to not bore himself to death. He really wish he was anywhere else on the planet than detention. He glanced over at the boy that was talking. â I got caught hexing a stupid 2nd year.â He said with an eye roll. â What about you?â
âWhat act of stupidity merited your wrath?â Aurelius was generally curious - purely since it was rare he spoke to a Slytherin. Unless you counted Edith but he always felt she would fit in his own house just as well. There again, he did have an unfortunate encounter with Rodolphus Lestrange the other day. The memory made him shudder. âThe most boring thing in the world, Iâm afraid. I refused to stop smoking and MacGonagall wasnât in a sympathitic mood.â Which was true.
rebelliousaureliusxox
âOkay,â he nodded. âAnd how is your day going?â
âItâs been⌠Good, actually. I take it yours hasnât gone as well?âÂ
âYou could say that. Itâs, uh, my Grandpaâs birthday. First one with him being... you know?â
Aurelius looked at the lining of the trees, trying his best to ignore the weird grin the Caretaker was giving him. Next to him, Hagrid was being briefed by Professors Dumbledore and Flickwick. Rubbing his hands together, he turned to address the other detentionee. âSo, what did they get you in for?â
âApparently, trying to feed the Giant Squid is frowned upon.â Marlene only shrugged, as if to say âwho would have thought?â. She glanced briefly over the boy next to her. âWhat about you? Surely thereâs better ways you could be spending a Saturday night?â
âWell, the poor creature needs to eat too.â It was odd to Aurelius who didnât usually pay much mind to the squid. But it did need its feed too. He saw that the blonde was seeing to it. âI could not find an adequate spot to smoke my pipe. Your head of house was none too pleased when she caught I may have also refused to give up the pipe.â The pipe was special, it was a gift from his grandfather.
Anyone that knew Goodwin would consider his mood that evening inherently non-Goodwin-like. Normally something of a hermit, the idea of going out of his way to speak with people was close to unthinkable. Perhaps it was the winter air that had gotten to him, perhaps the association with human interaction and the cold had been placed like a virus into his brain and infected his lonely sensibilities.
If conversation was what he was in fact looking for, heâd picked an odd place and time to do so. It was a frigid evening, and he had sat himself just a few feet from the black lake. When after a prolonged period of just sitting there (something he was very unused to) someone sat next to him, he smiled breezily. âGood evening,â he said, turning just so to look at them. âYouâre looking cozy. I think we both must be mad, to be out here on a day like this.â
Aurelius always found solace in an early morning smoke. It was the only time he could be as eccentric as he liked without being judged. The pipe reminded him of his late grandfather and today was as hard as ever. It was meant to be his eightieth birthday. Birthdays were always difficult in his opinion. When he heard someone address him, an easy grin arose on his lips.
âAh, good morning to you also.â He recognised Goodwin from his house. It was possible that he had the same classes as his brother as the two were in the same year. âIâm afraid Iâve been mad since birth but - as my grandpa used to say - madness is a side effect of a great mind. We are of great minds, yes?â
âWe should really try to finish this soon.â Alaric wrote. âThe library is getting darker.â He wrote. He sighed. They had been working continuously to end it.
A small smile found its way on his lips when he read Alaricâs note. âAh, thatâs when itâs the best time - we get the pick off all the best books!â Aurelius allowed a chuckle to leave his lips. This was soon echoed by an impatient sush. âOn second thought,â he started to collect his things. âLet me walk you back to your dorm, alright?â
Misery loved a few things, in Docâs book: sweaters, always several sizes too large to the point where they all but swallowed even his large frame, pretending to be a-okay, and curling up in corners when he felt he wouldnât be found. This was one such moment, when he thought he was safe. He was slumped into the back wall of a greenhouse, knees pulled into his chest and arms wrapped firmly around them. He wasnât crying, dammit, he hadnât cried in such a long time, but he could feel tears welling in his eyes and his chest tightening unbearably. He didnât even have a good reason for this, he was wasting time, his own and everyone elseâs, and the second he pulled himself together heâd be back to class and everything would be alright.
About ten minutes prior, heâd been perfectly fine, minding his own business in charms, when behind him he heard two students whispering something mostly unintelligible. Among quiet speech, he could make out just barely that they were talking about the Order, and subconsciously his foot began tapping. They were talking about him, they had to be: Caradoc Dearborn is so much of a useless coward that he wonât join the cause. Who the hell does he think he is, that deplorable nobody that canât sacrifice his own safety for a damnâhis thoughts raced with what he knew they mustâve been saying. After a while, he couldnât stand it, whether it was actually happening or not, and shoved his things aside to leave the room. On his way out, he mumbled something about the bathroom to his professor, hoping it would be enough.
And then he was here, yes, definitely crying now, with cheeks flushed and breathing shallow. And, just his luck, with someone kneeling down in front of him. He quickly wiped at his face and smiled. âSprout should be in her office, if youâre looking for her.â
Aurelius was in a hurry to submit his assignment for Herbology. He had always been slow with the subject but had been slowly improving. The Ravenclaw knew he had to thank Gilderoy at some point. The guy was actually okay.
So there he was, assignment in hand, walking into one of the greenhouses. It took him a mere few seconds to realise that someone else was there. Once he saw them, however, a look of confusion marred his features. A permanent look these days as he made his way to the other boy. Aurelius instantly recognised him as he leaned down, concern obvious on his face now. When Caradoc spoke, he slowly turned the parchment in his hand and shrugged.
âAh, it can be wait. Whatâs a few minutes, eh?â The Alderney tried a smile of his own as he watched the other closely. It was obvious that he had been crying. What about, though, was none of his business. âPerhaps you can check this? I know itâs right but a second opinion is great,â he added holding up his work. He wasnât one to push people to open up. That always got too messy. âIf not, Iâm okay with just - you know - talking. Itâs sometimes great to get things off your chest.â It was the curious that spoke for him. Aurelius was more concerned about a distraction if he could help that.

Aurelius shivered at the tone of her voice and his hair stood on end. Why could he have feelings for someone that also scared him? This was a question that he often found himself asking himself. Edith was the biggest enigma in his life and he wondered if he would ever solve her. Solve her and see past those barriers.Â
When he heard those words and the feeling of Edith placing her hand in his, Aurelius felt his heart beat raise. He didnât know what to say but he knew he was happy. âThen⌠then I promise that I shall stay with you⌠as long as youâll have me.â
âAs long as youâll have me.â Â Edie replied, a rare smile twisting at her lips. Â She peered down at their hands, amazed at how pure and natural it felt to her. Â What with the upbringing sheâd had, sheâd always been somewhat solitary. Â Even the simple act of holding someones hand was alien to her and yet with him it felt like second nature. Â
Aurelius allowed a breathy laugh leave his lips at her words. It was due to the disbelief of this happening and it somewhat scared him. He was glad, though, that they were able to bring things forward. Even if it was a tiny step - it was better than nothing. It was truly amazing. âAlways,â he added after coming down from the clouds.

âLike Iâd tell you.â Dolores scoffed, folding her arms across her chest and tapping her boot on the ground below her. âFucking bastards think they can punish me, thatâs truly laughable. I do what I bloody wish.â She huffed, blowing a blonde strand of hair off of her forehead.Â
âAh, forgive me for not recognising you any sooner.â His tone was sarcastic, having read the Insider in last few weeks. His sister often had a spare copy and made him read it. It was somewhat an entertainment. âPerhaps it keeps the peasants in line when they spot the monarchy out with us. I mean, you did tell the professor youâve done no wrong right?â
rodlestrage:
âAlderney.â While he had known the boys first name, his surname was somewhat surprising. âWell this has turned out to be rather interesting.â While his family had never needed the help of the wizard lawyer, Rodolphus had heard others recommend the man for harder to conceal situations. Although, the revelation did nothing to better the boys situation.
Hearing the steps of a passerby, Rodolphus moved away from the Ravenclaw and waited a moment after the person passed to focus on the boy once more. âYour father has built quite a name for your family, dependable is a word people associate with him. I wonder if it could be associated with you or if it dies with you.â Looking the boy over, Rodolphus simply shook his head before letting out a small chuckle. Â
In the back of his mind, Rodolphus knew Edith would be upset if she found out about his meddling. Yet, it was something he viewed having to occur. Life hadnât given Edith the pleasure of coming from a family like his own, in wealth and power, her future movements would be looked at more so than his own. âPerfect so anything that Iâd do to you would simply be a walk in the park. You can go, on the condition that you donât mention this pleasant conversation to Edith.â As if to show that he was being genuine, Rodolphus moved away once more from Aurelius and gave him the room needed to leave the corridor they were in. âTake care of yourself, Alderney. There are people and things that your father canât save you from.â A gift in the form of a threat was given to the Aurelius as he waited for the the boy to leave. Â
Aurelius was confused when the other male mentioned that it was interesting. He didnât know how his surname could be that interesting. There again, he felt his fatherâs business was rather dull. Just being confined to one place wasnât appealing to him after all.
