Album Recommendation 14/1/18 - Wahalla // Dean Blunt and Joanne Robertson
Dean Blunt and Joanne Robertson finally release Wahalla, a previously unreleased collaboration from 2014 and thank god they did. Wahalla features some of Blunts more characteristic lo-fi vocals and production seen in his Black Metal (2014) and Skin Fade (2014) albums; partly due to the fact the recording taking place between both of these projects. Joanne Robertson’s folk vocals help drive the album, creating a cool contrast from the experimental production.
I’ve been following Blunt only somewhat recently coming off his sudo-experimental project with Inga Copeland, Hype Williams. From there I’ve been hooked with Dean Blunt’s gritty shoe-gaze/psychedelic style. Wahalla incorporates this familiar style but creates a more calming and soothing atmosphere with Joanne’s pretty vocals being in the forefront of a majority of the tracks. However on tracks like MASS APPEAL you definitely hear that gritty dark sound that helps vary the album.
Definitely give this album a try if your looking for something different.
