Hello!

My name is Emily aka @warp-speedchic (she/her).

This blog is to help me through my own healing process and get out my thoughts.

Some things you should know:

⭐ I was born and raised Roman Catholic, but after a long period of questioning I officially started deconverting in 2017. I consider my deconversion to be an ongoing process as I am still trying to work through the culture I was raised in.

⭐ My experience with Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular has been a source of distress for me, and I won't apologize for that.

⭐ I have OCD, which has been inextricable from my journey with religion and religious trauma.

⭐ I am an atheist, but all followers are welcome.

⭐ Hatred of any kind will not be tolerated.

⭐ I am unapologetically pro-choice and will not debate this.

⭐ I am not part of the LGBTQ+ community, but this blog is an LGBTQ+ positive space. 🏳️‍🌈

⭐ TW for the whole blog: religious trauma, purity culture, OCD, parentification, and all that jazz.

⭐ I am a Marxist, which may come up from time to time (see the icon lol) but that isn't the focus of this blog.

⭐ If you're curious, my icon is a Space Race era poster that shows an astronaut with text that translates to "No God!" - a reference to a quote from a Russian astronaut who said he had been to space and he saw no god.

this also counts for all those times you kept your mouth shut and didn't complain because you were being polite, and people would gladly have changed things if you had just asked. your suffering was not noble. you do not get a cookie for it, you do not get a tally mark next to your soul's score for grinning and bearing it. your suffering serves no purpose. break free of it. you deserve comfort.

I’ve never been able to handle Good Friday.

Even as a kid, it hit me hard. Seeing that God wasn’t with us (the candle was put out, the crucifix was covered, and the tabernacle was left open and empty) made me feel like I’d been hit with a sledgehammer. It only got worse as we went on with the readings… Eventually, I couldn’t even whisper along with the crowd’s parts. I felt like I was personally responsible for Jesus’ death, and even knowing that He was coming back in 3 days didn’t help.

I wanted to scream and cry every year on Good Friday, to beg for forgiveness at His feet. I felt so fucking guilty.
