If you jump to 27:00 on this video the squirrel comes on the scene. Then the squirrel falls down and comes back on the scene at 32:00.
Tim makes an appearance at the beginning of this video when he sits on a guy that crashed him at the start and then again at about 7:10
Lady Bird Lake Trail Doodle
The original plan was to ride around the Austin downtown area and check out the sites on Saturday. Unfortunately Ric wasn't able to ride (he and his bike are pretty banged up), although he did convinced me to get on the bike.
Lady Bird lake trail is about a 10 miles long and you guessed it (circles Lady Bird lake) in downtown Austin. With temps in the mid 30's with light rain and ice falling I was surprised to see so many other people outside enjoying the trail.
I only took a couple of pictures because my hands were frozen.

Two layers of gloves weren't enough to keep my hands from becoming numb so I only hit one side of the lake and rode back to the house. Austin is a really cool city, nothing like anything you see while driving here through Texas.
Friday Racing
My CX Nats ended about 20 secs into the race in a gigantic crash that seems to be a hot topic amongst the spectators I was around Saturday.
It started with some guys near the front overlapping and going down but ended with the rest of the field piling in.
I thought I had avoided the crash but forgot about the 90 guys behind me and that freight train knocked me off the bike separating my shoulder. I remember bodies and bikes tumbling over me and even a helmet skittered by.
I tried to get back on the bike but it didn't take long to figure out I couldn't continue. Very disappointing. I was dazed and was glad Tim was there to tell me what to do. One guy was still laying on the pavement as I was getting off the course.

Tim's CX Nationals
Tim started last row in his race yesterday and passed half the guys in front of him to finish 48th. There was another crash at the start of his race but he managed to avoid it. He didn't want to have to sit on someones expensive carbon wheels again.
Course conditions were packed and fast but it was very cold. Here's some clips of the race from around the course.
Non-Champs racing
Today Tim got caught behind a crash at the start and hit the grass around 140 guys in front of him. He shredded his way back to 45th.
I was called up in the mid 50’s which got me 6th row. I got around some big chunks of riders early on then gradually picked more off to finish 15th.
We’re both happy with how we felt and how we rode. Tim races his Champs race tomorrow and I get to chill and and poodle around South Austin.
First race of 2015
Today is the Non-Champs race. Looks like I'll be called-up 7th row and Tim will be called up 13th row. That's a lot of bodies between us and the front but I think the course is hard enough to make passing possible after about 20 minutes of racing. We're hoping for some no-shows so we might get a little closer to the front.
Here's our preride under sunny blue skies and 70 degree temps.
We almost made it to Texas last night. We got to witness this incredible sunset. Also got to see what a gigantic oil refinery looks like at night. We thought it was a giant Christmas light display until we noticed the smoke plumes.

A lovely day in the Red Hills. The top photo is from one of my favorite spots on New Hope Church Rd where it narrows to almost the width of double track and the canopy is fully enclosed. Thanks to tinymight and apebike for documenting.
