Summary:

The cold night air twisted around him, an omen of warning that sent the hairs on the back of his neck standing. Keeping his eyes on the creaking before him, he let his shoulders readjust to a backwards facing position, loosing his arrow. A resounding shriek informed him of a mark being hit, and the sound of twisted bark falling to the ground spoke of his endeavor's success. Another arrow was notched, realigned to the creature still locked in place by Scott’s gaze. It growled, low and harsh as its eyes grew more intense, beckoning his own to droop but for a moment.

An arrow lodged itself between bark and socket, a burst of ghostly flowers wormed its way down the monster’s body until both its ailment and its screams were obscured by the cleansing foliage. The hunter let out a steadying breath, eyes swiveling sideways as the next creaking made its presence known.

And so on and so fourth, Scott shot.

or: Unicorns and Creakings are natural enemies, Scott is the last of his kind. Maybe, in the end, promises are meant to be broken.

Summary:

------ As the first individuals reached the square and began queuing, Jimmy made his way onto the street, still tucking his worn out blue shirt into his pants. He haphazardly ran his fingers across his scalp, attempting to flatten loose strands catching in the wind, before rubbing a weary hand down his face. He then stood for a moment, letting the brisk wind entangle and numb him. Though it was far from likely he would be one of the two selected, he still let himself relish the fresh air. No matter the outcome, the Games or the mines, neither would grant him the luxury of time. He’d become accustomed, over the years, to the cold staleness of air found deep in caverns of stone, infesting his lungs; he knew the feeling of poison. ------ Life Series Hunger Games AU where I attempt to fit as many dynamics in as humanly possible (oh yeah, and it's angsty and sad because that's all I know how to write apparently lmao) Characters utilized within this fic are based on content creator characters as seen in the Life Series, NOT THE CONTENT CREATORS THEMSELVES.
