Art life update

I have so much to update on my blog. So I will start off with the finishing up of editing all the photos I took for my one of my best friends senior photo shoot! I started with about 350 photos and now have about 200 for her and her family to have and share. I will post some of my favorites in the next few days so stay tuned!

Wanderlust: Regina Robertson April 6 - May 13, 2016 Greensboro College Anne Rudd Galyon Gallery

 It has appeared as early as five years old, evident in my life that I would somehow be involved in the arts even if it was during Pint Sized Picassos at the Center for Visual Artists. 13 years later I would be working with the CVA again, volunteering for my senior project in high school. I collaborated with many artists there as we assembled installations in the gallery for show, Paper Planes. Here, began the spark for the other opportunities I would find there were in the art world like, managing a gallery and also learning about the process other artists go through creating their work. I had to document what I did each visit, take photos of what I worked on and learned about the curating of art such as utilizing the gallery space when it came to hanging and placing the work.

With the help of the CVA and my professors at Greensboro College, I learned the appreciation that goes into handling work and the history that is behind the appearance of a piece. With this being said, there is so much more to learn about other artists, than just what is shown on the canvas. Through many art classes from learning how to paint, to my Art History classes, I began to analyze myself and other artists work critically, expanding my knowledge to becoming interested in the world of Art History.

 My study abroad in Europe and mainly Germany, allowed me to broaden my horizons and explore new art and architecture that inspired me to create this installation. You will be able to see my curatorial influence through the positioning and installation of her work, the visual which is shown through her love of photography and her growing interest in Art History through the research shown on various art and architecture around the five countries she visited. Carol Cole: Me and Tennessee February 17 - March 23, 2016 Greensboro College Anne Rudd Galyon Gallery

Through my experience I have realized how important it is to network with people in the art community around you. To indulge yourself in culture that surrounds you in your town, it one of the best things you could do in order to kick start your career. There are smaller steps you must take in order to accomplish your end goals. From volunteering at the Center for Visual Artists in high school to now curating shows for artists like Carol Cole: Me and Tennessee and my own senior show. They have all taught me valuable lessons from physically hanging work in the gallery, to passing out flyers around the city, I could not be more appreciative of the insight I have gained from my peers and co-workers.

I had the pleasure this year, to work with a local artist of the name Carol Cole and help her through the process of planning, promoting and installing her show Me and Tennessee at the Greensboro College Cullis Gallery. I met Carol Fall of 2014 in my Experimental Studio class when my class had the opportunity to visit her personal collection and learn about her work. I revisited her Fall 2015 to learn more about her collection for a school assignment, and in that process, I ended up being the point person to exhibit her work at the schools gallery. Through this experience I was able to with her show with her and her personal Curator, Jennie Carlisle. This process made me realize how much goes into planning a show and I am so thankful for having this opportunity. It has prepared me for my own show which will be coming up April 6th.
