how to use social media responisbly: entry #2
Do not give personal information.
- Signing up usually asks for credentials, however if the site asks information like location or other sensitive information, it might be best not to sign up.
Remember your age when using social media
- Some sites limit the age when signing up, like Twitter, the minimum age is 13. Beware with interacting with accounts that has a 18+ (🔞) sign, most child exploitation and grooming start with minors blindingly trusting an unknown person.
Use social media to connect & to be informed.
- One of the largely known uses of social apps is to link people together, take advantage of it and talk to others and form new potential relationships—with caution of course— however, we must also recall that social media is one way to assimilate information, and people use their phones to check the weather or news.
Be responsible in what you post.
- What you share in social media is entirely up to you, however there are some spur of the moment decisions you may make that can lead to an embarrassing picture, or maybe a content you might not want to share. Keep in mind that you control the account not the other way around.
Be aware of the content you consume.
- Having fun in social media is basically a given, it is a way to entertain us, however, we must also be vigilant in what content we are seeing, there are may triggering posts floating around the internet and we must remember to take a breather and click the unfollow or block button if there are accounts that make content you are uncomfortable.
