Amelia needed more information. The restricted section of the library had yielded some valuable results on potions. A folded page, ripped from one of the larger tomes, now resided in her purse but she was still very reluctant to take those drastic measures. Visiting a muggle clinic had crossed her mind more than once but how would she pay for it? Amelia couldn’t help but sigh deeply, standing in the narrow rows of Obscurus, searching for something, anything. She felt tears prick the corners of her eyes as she suddenly felt like she was sinking. Unaware of the person standing a few feet away, watching her with rapt attention, Amelia let out a small sob as she pushed an errant strand of hair from her face.
Reg wasn’t looking for anything in particular, really, but he enjoyed seeing the new selections that Obscurus acquired whenever he could. He’d once found a copy of The Tales of Beetle the Bard from 1864, although it was more galleons than he could afford and though his mother was inclined to give it as a birthday gift, his father deemed it too juvenile a purchase. Still, he scanned the shelves until he spotted a familiar figure. He was about to say hello, perhaps berate Amelia about whatever uncultured halfblood literary taste she was undoubtedly harboring, when he noticed her near crying. “Come across a good tragedy, then?” he asked, hoping for a light approach.

The park was small but quiet and the sun was warm, so Regulus sat on a bench beneath a tree with a new book. It was frivolous fare, about a Quidditch player who helped solved mysteries while wooing whichever witch was in charge of investigating the crime. His father wouldn’t approve, of course, as that sort of drivel wasn’t tolerated and he was to read only cultured literature, but it was the fifth book in the series and he hadn’t been discovered yet. He smiled as he sipped a muggle concoction called an Arnold Palmer that a halfblood witch had introduced him to, until a shadow moved into his light. Reg looked up. “May I help you?” he asked.

s i x w o r d s t o r y. just a lamb in the slaughterhouse.
s e c r e t. nobody ever told you that being the bad guy was this hard. you’re a good child ( somebody had to be after sirius left ) so you do everything your parents tell you, including aligning yourself with the dark lord. but as it turns out, something in the black gene pool must be defective, because you want no part in it either. the cruelty makes your stomach lurch, you can barely sleep at night from the things you’ve done. you’re in too deep now. there’s no walking away from the death eaters. if only they knew just what you thought of them.
h o u s e. slytherin. f a c e c l a i m s. rhys matthew bond. p r o n o u n s & g e n d e r. up to player.
l u c i u s m a l f o y. you are not so naive as to tell yourself that you don’t find lucius attractive — after all, malfoys are notorious for being charming and honey-tongued. that being said, lucius’ loyalties are clear, and your faiths towards the dark lord are wavering. sometimes, though, when lucius smiles at you just right, you can almost be convinced that their side isn’t so bad.
s i r i u s b l a c k. when sirius left, you spent months simmering and letting that anger boil up. how could someone just abandon their family? now, though, you are beginning to see the sense to those actions. you wish you could be like sirius; you wish you could break free. but you also feel a little resentful. sirius’ departure has left all the pressures sitting on your shoulders instead.
a m y c u s c a r r o w. you’re not sure if you would call amycus your best friend… but certainly your best something. when the two of you are together, it feels as if you can conquer anything, and everything. a smile from amycus can make you feel on top of the world. disappointment makes you feel like a failure. isn’t it such a shame that all the most attractive people seem to be working for the wrong side?

Lily is enjoying her evening, more than she thought she would. She’s kept her distance from most, flitting between social circles and just making sure she’s been seen. She’s had a few drinks, but not nearly enough to get her drunk. She wasn’t planning on being foolish tonight. She’s avoided the spell for the most part as well, so much so that she’s now finding herself on the edge of the party, barefoot and up to her ankles in salt water. It’s a relaxing moment – one that was only waiting to be ruined. She’s brought from her thoughts by a voice. Lily turns towards them, a pleasant smile on her face. “I’m sorry – I didn’t quite catch that.”
Regulus had gotten over the edge where he was ready to stir up some trouble, and he knew if he were to get anyone to loosen up tonight, it needed to be someone memorable. Everyone seemed to admire the mudblood, and, when she passed him on the beach, he seized the opportunity. He got one of his friends to toss him the trick charm - he wouldn’t hold it himself for more than a few seconds - and called out to Lily. When she turned, he grinned mischievously. “I said catch, Evans!” he shouted, hurling the charm toward her.

“Oh, fuck,” the words spilt from Alecto’s mouth as she woke with a start. She must have fallen asleep somewhere between a few bites of ice cream and a few shots of firewhiskey. She straightened up in the chair she sat in, blinking her eyes until she finally felt a little more awake. It was fine. The night was fine. Amycus was… somewhere, and mercifully she hadn’t seen one Lucius Malfoy. Beggars couldn’t be choosers, and she’d take small blessings. She fiddled with something in her hands, before looking down and swearing. A beat passed, and she huffed. A smile spread across her face, feral and wide. “Alright. Very funny. Who put the charm in my hand? I just wanna know. We gotta talk.”
Regulus laughed as he noticed Alecto holding the trick charm. He hadn’t been the one to place it there, wouldn’t touch the thing himself, but he couldn’t resist seeing how far he could push the party girl. He refilled his own drink and grabbed Alecto one as well. “And what is it you want to talk about, exactly?” he asked, sidling up to her and handing her the glass before taking a seat on the arm of her chair.

alice fortescue would willingly and freely admit that she didn’t know regulus black well. she knew his brother better, having become somewhat of a fan of all of the marauders through one peter pettigrew. still, she knew that the black brothers weren’t too keen on another. still — no reason to not be friendly. “ hi, regulus, ” she sounded uncertain, as if he’d tell her to go away after just two words. “ are you having a good night ? this is really fun, isn’t it ? i don’t know who brought the butterbeer and firewhiskey, but james potter is a genius for telling me to combine the two. you should try it. “
Regulus looked at Alice. He’d never been keen on any of Sirius’ group of friends, but he wasn’t inclined to make waves tonight, so he let her approach. “Looks like James Potter can’t hold stronger liquor and needs a more effeminate mix,” he said, smirking at the girl before him. He raised his own glass of firewhiskey, neat, to his lips and polished off the glass before raising his eyebrows. “Although, it appears I’m getting another drink, so I might as well get you the butterwhiskey or whatever silly name they’ve come up with for it.” He gestured toward the table that claimed the alcohol for the evening, as if to say after you.

–– in conversation with @regularblack ; way too late.
WHEN the trick charm had been forced into his hands –– well, forced was the slightest of overstatements ; he had asked for the damned thing for the second time that night –– amycus had made it his sacred mission to see how far he could go before he actually let anything slip. so far? he could ace an o.w.l in skirting the truth. ( for once, all those dull pureblood carrow lectures had actually come in handy. )
finding regulus, he swung an arm around his friend’s shoulders; offering him a firewhisky softened smile – one that even reached his dark eyes. “ want a go? ” amycus asked, giving the charm a hard shake for good measure. “ promise it doesn’t bite. ”
Regulus looked up to the body next to him and grinned. It was not nearly his first firewhiskey of the evening, and he accepted it readily. He looked at the charm in Amycus’ hands. “Hell the fuck no, mate,” he said at the offer, downing a good several gulps of the burning liquid in his hands. He laughed. He pondered what questions he could possibly ask his friend. There wasn’t much he didn’t already know.
“The charm itself isn’t what you should be worried about,” he said. “It’s what other blokes would have you reveal. For instance, I could ask you to tell me an embarrassing childhood story, and you would be inclined to tell me, no matter how many might overhear.” He purposely did not pose it as a question, though he was sure Amycus wanted him to.
