Something random that's been on my mind the last couple of days:
!! Obviously contains season 3 & 4 spoilers !!
Regarding the Curse of Anchesenamon;
In the series, they never mention the year/date of when the Van Den Berg's discovered her tomb. For some reason, I've always assumed that it happened after Ewout Winsbrugge-Hennengouwen found Tutankhamun's tomb.
So, recently I was skimming through the books and stumbled upon a year.
Turns out that the discovery of Anchesenamon's tomb happened 200 years prior to the events of season 3 (2009). A good century before Tutankhamun's tomb was discovered by Ewout & Co.
Before I get into the short main point and reason for this post, let's put down some historical & canon facts :
▪︎The West's fascination and interest in Egypt started with Napoleon's Campaign into Egypt and Syria, around the years 1798 - 1801. (historical)
▪︎Anchesenamon's tomb discovered in around 1809. (canon)
▪︎Tutankhamun's tomb discovered in 1922. (historical and canon)
▪︎Stone tablet about the legend of Tutankhamun and his secret lover, Amneris, found in 1929. (canon)
Moving on!
It's disputed in the real world whether Amneris really existed or not, seeing as how little to nothing can be found about her in historical records.
And so, if we bring that information over into the series, it's safe to say that the Van Den Berg family didn't know about her existence, until Ewout Winsbrugge-Hennengouwen found the Stone Tablet 120 years later, in 1929.
Which brings me to the point I've been thinking about:
Anchesenamon had basically send Jacob and Matthijs Van Den Berg on a fool's errand.
She only ever repeated the sentence "Give me the descendant(s) of Amneris", nothing else. Never said who Amneris even is, or why she wants her descendants dead. Just that one sentence.
So, imagine their utter confusion for the next century. Searching in vain for any bit of info on who Amneris is. How damn desperate they must have been.
LOVE their dedication to saving a person they care about.
[!] Just bought the final book, and I was right about pretty much everything that I said in the post above lol.
[!] Again: season 3 & 4 spoilers [!]
Confirmations:
▪︎The Van Den Berg family was part of Napoleon's crew of archaeologists that accompanied him on his campain into Egypt, circa 1798.
▪︎They didn't know who Amneris was up until Ewout Winsbrugge-Hennengouwen found the stone tablet in 1929.
▪︎Something that I've mentioned in another post of mine; Jacob was, in fact, responsible for the death of Noa's parents, although that wasn't his intention.
(Background: They had bribed someone to mess with/block the brakes of the car, so that the parents would stop the car at some point to check on it, and so that way they could get a chance to kidnap baby-Noa. But things didn't go as planned and the parents ended up smashing into a tree; they both died but Noa survived. After that, her maternal aunt got custody of her. The aunt decided to flee Egypt to get Noa away from the ones that were after her. But the ferry they were on ended up sinking somewhere in the Red Sea and Noa, again, became the sole survivor. An Arab Sheikh eventually found and adopted her).
Extra info:
▪︎Jacob and Matthijs traveled all over the world, in search for the bloodline of Amneris, to put an end to it. They eventually found the last one, Noa, and followed her around; from Egypt, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and eventually back to the Netherlands.
▪︎Noa is immortal, just like the members of the Alliance of Anchesenamon (which includes Jacob and Matthijs). She can only be killed by the Cobra-poison that Anchesenamon gave to Jacob.
▪︎In the books they mention certain "Helpers/Acolytes" of Tutankhamun and Amneris a couple of times. They protect the bloodline, and are the ones that saved en raised Tuth and Amneris' daughter. Anchesenamon has followers of her own. After Tutankhamun's death, Anchesenamon made sure her followers killed Amneris and erased every mention of her from historical records.
▪︎There is suspicions that the Arab Sheikh, that adopted Noa, knows of her connections to Amneris, that him finding her didn't happen by chance. He might actually be one of those Acolytes. Noa moving into the anubis house wasn't by chance either. She was specifically send to that place by the Sheikh.
▪︎It is also mentioned that Ewout Winsbrugge-Hennegouwen is the "Key Keeper/Guardian" of the bloodline of Amneris, and was tasked with protecting her descendants; which is exactly why he hid the Grail and the Teardrop of Isis, and made all those riddles and tunnels tasks, so that the member of the Alliance Of Anchesenamon wouldn't get to them that easily. After the death of Ewout and his wife, Julia, the responsibility of being the Key Keeper moved over to Sarah, and she eventually handen that Key and task over to Nienke.
