Happy Easter - More, more snow…and the QLN420 Rugged Printer from Zebra

Only 5 weeks since our last snow update and winter has struck back with a vengeance. We've all been sliding around for the last week or so but it seems to finally be melting just in time for the Easter break. For such tough conditions -being the purveyor of rugged mobile devices that we are- we wouldn't recommend anything less than a rugged mobile printer, such as the new QLn420 from Zebra.

Pro2Pac was also successful, with Dave Main from our sales team going down to the ExCeL Centre in East London to demonstrate the best that the RF and Voice market have to offer. Not to stop our march through every exhibition centre in the UK, we are pleased to announce that we will also be exhibiting at Multimodal 2013 at the NEC! Ian Hitchcox Joins Renovotec Voice

Due to the increasing number of voice enquiries we've received over the last few months and the successes of Steve Townsend since joining Renovotec, we have now been able to expand our Voice development team further. Ian Hitchcox has now joined us after starting his professional career in Business Process Management at HMRC, and then moving onto Capgemini. Here he worked in their financial services sector, first as an apprentice and then as a junior developer. As part of the development team for Renovotec Voice he will explore ways to deliver software to our customers to increase productivity and enhance their operations.

Ian said "I am excited to be joining Renovotec and looking forward to new challenges as I move from the financial services sector -which i have worked in for the past 2 years- to voice technology. I hope to utilise skills from my previous projects and put them to good use at Renovotec."

Also joining us in recent months was Business Development Executive Matthew Beasley. After working at commercial laundry equipment supplier JLA and with five years experience in the kitchen and bathroom industry as a design/sales consultant, he will now be joining the Renovotec sales team along with Justin, Dave and Oliver to help enhance the customer base and help to ensure that the team meets their 2013 sales targets.

Matt told us, "I am looking forward to working in a completely new industry and widening my skillset. While there is a lot to learn I am confident that i will contribute to the success to the sales team."

Hannah Goldstein Marries Childhood Sweetheart

Happy Valentine's Day to everyone! Having just read a lovely email from one of my friends about my namesake (Hannah Goldstein) being reunited with her childhood sweetheart after 60 years apart. After their lengthy separation, they found themselves in the same nursing home and discovered that her partner had kept their final farewell letter in his wallet since their last meeting - so maybe there's still hope for even the most cynical of February the 14th! Zebra Wristbands, Vipers and our New Live Chat Feature

As one of the leading rugged printer manufacturers, Zebra are constantly working towards incoporating innovation into their printers to help increase productivity for users. To this end, they have announced the availability of 802.11n wireless LAN capability on both the QLn220 and QLn320 mobile label printers. Further details can be found here.

Super-soft patient wristbands, the Zebra Zband are also now available and promise to be 'the softest direct thermal wristbands on the market'. A Common Vondering We've had a fair few enquiries for Datalogic Viper accessories over the last few weeks. Although we have come across one or two items, these are now discontinued and where possible, need to be replaced with newer devices when replacement parts can no longer be sourced. The natural replacement is the Datalogic Kyman. Other potential alternatives are the AML M7225, Psion Omnii XT15 or the Honeywell-LXE Tecton. A bit of the white stuff? It's Snow problem... and the Seal VR7

Hopefully everyone is coping well with the snow and it's causing minimal disruption to your day!? Those people who don't have to contend with the (at-times!) treacherous travelling conditions can enjoy the fluffy-prettiness of freshly-laying snow and a bit of leisurely snowman building, followed by sledging down the nearest hill! For those people who managed to venture into the office today *pat on the back*. Hopefully you made it without any issues and are enjoying the unusually white view from the warmth and safety of the office window!

Seal VR7

Back to business and mammals who do enjoy the cold - seals! One of the latest additions to the rugged manufacturers list on OnlyRugged are Seals. The Seals VR7 is a full-featured smartphone featuring a tough, all-terrain environment. Available in both black and orange, it sports a modern look and would be even be suitable as your everyday phone, particularly as talk time can reach 12 hours and the battery can sustain up to 1500 hours of standby time. It features GPS and a compass which makes this a great companion device for anyone who enjoys more extreme hobbies.

If you're looking for a rugged device that's strictly business, the Seals VR7 also highly resistant to shock and vibration and is certified to MIL-810G standard so you can be sure it's been thoroughly put through it's paces and has the stamina required to complete all the necessary tasks. Its IP67 rating means that it is both water and dust particle resistant and won't be fazed by a drop from a height of up to 2 metres onto concrete.

The Seals VR7 is also suitable for harsher environments involving chemicals, oils, hydraulic fluids and petroleum fuels and is fully operational at temperatures from -20 to +60 degrees celsius. It also has a durable and accessible keypad with widely spaced keys that mean that even a gloved hand can operate them with ease. The rugged 2mp camera is also a handy feature as it's water resistant and makes the VR7 even more versatile.

Honeywell Announces Plans to Acquire Intermec and Oliver Joins Renovotec as E-Commerce Manager

Honeywell have today announced plans to acquire Intermec for $600,000,000.

Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions President and Chief Executive Officer Roger Fradin said about the acquisition, “The addition of Intermec is a natural extension to our Scanning & Mobility business, which was established through the successful acquisitions of Hand Held Products, Metrologic and EMS.” He added. “While Intermec strengthens our core scanning and mobile computing business, it opens up entirely new opportunities in RFID, voice solutions and barcode and receipt printing segments that we currently don’t serve. Exciting News from Vocollect as they Launch Innovative new headset the SRX2

After announcing a few posts ago that we’ll be partnering with Vocollect – allowing more and more of our customers to streamline their operation by implementing voice technology- we’re pleased to be able to bring our blog readers some of the first information on Vocollect’s SRX2 wireless headset. It’s available from Q3 and according to Vocollect it’s their "best performing headset, enabling new workflows in the DC…enhancing the productivity of current voice workflows.”

The choice to develop the headsets to be modular revolutionises the way users can operate across multiple shifts, using the same hardware. Additional upgrades and enhancements are also available through VoiceCatalyst 1.2 which will be available from Q4. SRX2 benefits also include, 50% insertion reduction with SoundSense™ Technology in VoiceCatalyst 1.2, which we think will set a new standard in recognition performance.

The Vocollect SRX2 is also freezer certified and fully operational in -30°F with a battery capable of lasting for a full shift. It also offers superior comfort and ergonomics and has electronics modules that are easily interchangeable between different headband and microphone assemblies.

Further innovative features include predictive battery replacement (so you’ll have prior warning when the battery will run out so it doesn’t fail mid-shift!), easier pairing, reduced latency and increased higher audio quality using VoiceCatalyst. There’s also no need to be concerned with backward compatibility - prior versions of VoiceClient and VoiceCatalyst with SRX functionality will operate without difficulty.
