     ”Garland the knight, you say,” he straightened, but didn’t drop his guard. It was definitely unusual for a soldier of any kind to come through a quiet village like Ur. “You don’t look like the knights of Castle Sasune, or Castle Saronia either.”

     ”Good to hear it,” he answered swiftly. “What business do ya have here, Sir Garland?” Was that a challenge?

"That would be because I am not a knight of either." He replied. "My station is in Cornelia, a kingdom residing in another world entirely." Ridiculous sounding, but true. As for his business... "I'm simply passing through.  Nothing more, nothing less." So stop questioning me, boy

Something was approaching, something dark. Luneth could feel an aura akin to the Cloud of Darkness nearby, and it was closing in. Putting one foot forward, he braced his stance.

"Who’s there?"

Mailed hands raise in a sign of peace, the older male stepping forward into the youth's line of sight. "A simple knight." He answers. "Garland." He is a man tainted by darkness, a servant to Chaos, and ignorant to all of it.

"You can relax," He grunts after a moment of silence. "I mean you no harm." Nor could you stop me if I did

As soon as Garland corrected her, Rosa felt a little embarassed for having mistaken Cornelia, his home, to a thing. Actually, the white mage never heard of such a place before; so it was normal if she mistook it for another thing. "I— I’m sorry!" There were no words to explain how much sorry she felt in that moment and she doubted that she could do nothing to repair that mistake.  "Anyway… I am glad to hear that there are other kingdoms aside of this." Because she heard something like skycrapers from wanderers. "… And— What do you mean with displaced? Do you feel lost?”

"You needn't apologize your grace." Garland replied softly, raising a hand. "There was no way you could have known, nor do I take offense."  As if to prove his point, the knight smiled. As for her questions... "It's less a feeling and more of a truth. This is not my world, hence my wording." If Garland felt uncomfortable with this fact, and in some ways he did, then he hid it well.

So WoL is apparently sick (or was?) and Garland is weirdly torn between mocking him (because when is he ever going to get a chance like this) and telling him to get some fucking rest (because where's the fun in killing your greatest adversary if he's weakened) and now mun and muse are just weirdly side-eyeing each other...

A small hint of a smile showed from up on her lips as her hands clasped together. "It’s a pleasure, Sir Garland.” She gave him another nod of the head as she stretchened the smile a little more. "— What is a Cornelia?"

If he wasn't already suspecting that he'd somehow ended up in another world, Rosa's question cemented the fact. Not entirely sure how to feel towards this, Garland cleared his throat and tried not grimace as he began to explain. "Cornelia is my home," He started. "A kingdom much like this one. I'm afraid I've found myself rather displaced, however..."

Have you ever been particularly close to anyone, Sir Knight? I don't necessarily mean a romantic relationship in the sense of being 'close', but friendship... perhaps rivalry even?

"You'd be surprised how often the latter leads to the former," He started. "When I first joined the ranks of Cornelia's knights rivalry seemed nearly unavoidable; all of us wanting to prove we were the next great defender, myself included. One particularly boastful recruit soon become my rival and, somehow, my friend later on. Receive enough blunted strikes to the head and I suppose that's bound to happen..." He chuckled.

"So, in short, yes, I have felt particularly close to someone."

She returned his gesture with a nod of her head as she looked at him back quite stumped. "You— You’re in Baron, Sir. I am its Queen and my name is Rosa Farrell… May I know who you are?" She was not used to speak with people wearing mighty armors like that one he wore.

She has a common air for a Queen... Removing his helm and dipping low, he bowed before Rosa as suited a man of his position. "Garland, your grace." He answered, standing tall once again. "Finest of Cornelia's knights."

Flings things at the back of his helmet.

"…!?" Silently contemplates murdering him

With a carefully timed flip, Leon narrowly dodged the giant weapon from hitting him, landing several feet away and watching as Garland created two swords from his one. The other knight used this as his versatility, and Leon could already tell this wasn’t even its only form, giving the older knight a level of unpredictability much higher than he had first thought. Changing his stance, the dark knight began forming his new plan and acted accordingly.

Launching himself into the air, Leon sent out several balls of blue fire, the common spell infused with darkness to make it stronger and hopefully distract Garland from him landing behind him. As he landed, he coated his blades in the same darkness and went for his back. Even if the other knight didn’t fall for his tactic, he could still easily burn through the armor like before. He finally ended the assault by sending a wave of darkness through his sword in a swipe against the other and flying back with the recoil, landing several yards from his opponent.

"I’m not crushed yet!" he called back smugly, though blood had started to dribble from his lips. He had used too much of his power, and his body was paying for it. Stopping was his least bright idea; he now had to deal with the strain he put himself through with less adrenaline, and it would hurt his fighting for sure.

Garland wasn’t sure which had felt more poignant when the metal parted alongside skin, his back becoming a flaring agony as his lifeblood spilled forth. Respect for the opposing knight and his well performed maneuver or sheer rage at his own idiocy for falling for it in the first place? It truth, his anger was making it hard to tell.

With a snarl he pulled back, lashing out with all of his strength behind his weapon as it shifted and changed. There was a glimmer of pleasure when Garland caught sight of the man landing several yards back and even more when the ground below him ripped asunder as his newly formed axed struck hard at the earth. Had Leon been any less lucky then that might have taken his head off. The thought helped to soothe the older knight’s damaged pride.

“You will be.” Garland replied. Though in pain he was not blind to the other man’s condition and either one of his attacks had struck or that blighted magic Leon wielded was having some sort of adverse effect. He might have relished in this had the other man been an actual opponent but as it stood…

“Tch… You’ve proven your worth, boy, so enough of this.” Standing tall, Garland freed his weapon and made a show of the fact that he could still take a good deal of further battle if need be. He did not think Leon so foolish as to deny a truce, however. And if he was, well, Garland really would crush him. The harshest lesson were often then best remembered.

I'm trying to compromise with myself over Garland's age. I don't want him old, but he can't be young either, and I'm thinking like late twenties, early thirties... Thoughts?

Guess I should point out that postgame!Garland is still a knight of Cornelia, albeit with a very hazy and minimal recollection of the events in Dissidia. Yay for the status quo being restored when the in-game cycle was destroyed

One one hand, I like including Dissidia!Garland 'cause I get to know all the baddies. On the other hand, every protagonist is instantly wary, including characters not even in Dissidia
