Introduction

Hello, I'm Dale, Dale Munk.

Even ordinarily, Florian was not particularly eager to be approached by random people on the street. The charm had worn thin years ago - unfortunate side effects of being the favourite Charmont of all your country’s tabloids. The unfortunate side effect of being a prince, really. Especially one with a habit of sneaking out.

So, even ordinarily, someone walking up to him unprompted wasn’t fun. Now that a section of his mind was permanently devoted to worrying about Philip, and every other section was preoccupied with a hangover, he was seriously debating finding out the hard way if he had diplomatic immunity. Mostly what was saving him from picking a fight for the hell of it was the sheer energy it would take.

“Why? This a missed connection situation or something?” he drawled instead, pushing his sunglasses back up his nose. He flicked his glance down at the picture, his judgementally raised eyebrow partially hidden by the shades. “Because wandering around with a security cam picture is really creepy.”

“A what?” Dale said stepping back. “No, this man stole from my client and this is the only photo I was able to obtain from the crime scene.” Dale exclaimed, feeling more than a little defensive. “I’m a Rescue Ranger, I’ll have you know, and I am currently on a case attempting to get stolen good back from a thief.”

Dale huffed a bit and straightened out his jacket. “This man stole and item that was very close to my client. I’ve been having difficulties finding him due to a stunning lack of information about him and the inability to collaborate anything they may have said to my client before the crime occurred. So if you haven’t any knowledge about who this man is or his whereabouts then that’s all you had to say. Insulting someone who is just doing their job is simply unnecessary and quite rude.”

“The suspect in question is believed to be a student or someone connected enough to the school to have information on the dorm situation, though that has turned out to be a bit of a difficult thing to verify” Dale answered, attempting to hold on to his professionalism. “The location of the theft was… uh… unfortunately it was the Rescue Rangers Headquarters… the kid did a bit of the old switch-er-roo and got my guard down before taking the watch and fleeing.” Dale admits, looking more than a little embarrassed to be saying it a loud.

and even if angela did , that didn't mean she would be willing to help the stranger . his posture and air gave her a very specific type of vibe ; cops , the authorities , those kids of people . no particular reason to want to help them . they never did help her or her friends .

“My name is Dale. I’m a Rescue Ranger. My client has asked me to locate this man who is believed to have… obtained some personal objects that they wish to have returned. Nothing to be alarmed about.” Dale says attempting at being reassuring.

“He’s been a bit difficult to locate, I believe he is a student who may be named Nick. If you do come across him I would advise keeping inventory of what you have on your person. I don’t believe I can say anything more than that at this time.”

Macro was used to strange and unusual people wondering around Elias. It had been like that all his life and honestly it wasn’t that unusual at this point. He was doing his best to avoid all the strangeness that was happening around town with Maleficent and whatnot. Today was one of those days that he just didn’t really know what was going on half the time. People stopping him on the streets was a normal thing. Although asking him about people that he didn’t know anything about was not normal. “Oh, um, not that I’ve seen. Did they do something wrong or something?” he asked, tilting his head and looking at the photo in front of him again.

“Yes!” Dale said before clearing his throat. “I mean to say is uh, well they have something of mine and I’m trying to get it back. I’m sure it was just some sort of misunderstanding…” Dale says with a small laugh. It hadn’t occurred to him until that very moment that his plan might come off as alarming to random citizens. “I’m just trying to find him, he’s not in trouble in any legal sense.”

“ i must know each others names first if we’re to be best friends. i’m reagan! it’s lovely to meet you and go on this adventure with you ! ”

“I’m Dale and I couldn’t be more excited to meet and befriend you Reagan. We should do a little photo shoot while we’re there, the flowers are going to be perfect!” Dale exclaimed as he grabbed one of the flyers. “It doesn’t look to far away, do you think they’ll have cider too?”

saoirse nodded. “pretty much. you’ve got clouds made of marshmallow, butterflies with wings made of buttercream…it’s my go-to when i’m in need of a sweet treat. or it was before.. well, y'know,” she said, shoulders sagged, pointing to her magic wand-less hands. technically speaking, she could still travel using the dimensional scissors, but she felt safer doing it with what was essentially her magical, near all-powerful weapon. “after we get back my wand, i can totally take you there if you want,” she added, noticing the look in his eyes.

“oh, marco would never do that. he’s like, my best friend in all dimensions! besides, he’s from earth; he probably wouldn’t even know how to use it. ”

“well, like i said, i did try looking all over the house for it, but i couldn’t find anything. but now that i think about it, i didn’t check the stables or the school . do you think we should try going back together? i could use a professional. ”

“Yes.” Dale said nodding his head a bunch as he quickly started to pack up his tablet and some other things. “Yes you are correct, you shouldn’t go alone. I will accompany you to the scene and we will hopefully locate your wand for you.”

He had come to a quick decision. He was a Rescue Ranger. He was going to help out anyway possible. No case was too big or too small! Even if it turns out to just be a kid with an overactive imagination, he was going to help.

He finished packing his bag and grabbed his coat. “Alright, lets go check it out.”

The Case of the Time Thief.

Open starter

Dale was on a new case,'The Case of the Time Thief' that is. His client was very near to him and he was handling it with the utmost due diligence as possible. Their life was in total disarray without the aid of their tech, and they were truly in desperate need of it back.

That is to say, Dale was running out of leads trying to find the guy who had stolen his watch and it was starting to get to him. He had tried the GPS tracking with his phone, but apparently the perp also knew their way around apple products because it was turned off pretty quick. He also tried looking up students at the university with the name 'Nick' but realized he wasn't willing to risk looking like some kind of creep by going to the school to ask and he didn't really know how to hack into anything.

So he was down to his only other idea.

"Excuse me." He asked the nearest passer-by. "Have you seen this person?"

He then held up a photo he had printed from a screenshot he took from the headquarters secretary footage. It honestly wasn't that good of a photo, but if he wanted to catch this Nick guy and get his watch back, it was his best hope.

grateful hands outstretch for said water bottle, placing it against her lap before even bothering to try and open it. sorrel hums softly at the question being thrown back at her. she had been contemplating it prior but she still couldn’t exactly wrap her head around it. ‘ i want to, ’ she confesses suddenly. fingers begin playing with the bottle nervously. still, a small smile never leaves her face.

‘ i really want to but . . ’ she decides to not finish her sentence, shaking her head instead. childish fear settling in her, fear that someone would hear her and scold her for thinking such things. she looks up at him to see his reaction. wondering if she offended him in anyway. ‘ it’s a beautiful thought though, isn’t it ? a very reassuring one. if you’re meant to do something, you will. if you’re meant to be somewhere, you will. if you’re meant to be with someone, you will. like it’s all sort of . . planned for you. at least then you wouldn’t be left stranded alone to wonder. ’

“Not everything can just be planned out though.” Dale said as he shifted his stance a bit. “If you’re destined to be the next big basketball star, you still have to put in the work it takes to get there. Fate can only get you to the audition.” He says, watching her for a long moment before looking up to the sky.

“Also fate can just suck.” Dale says with a bit of a laugh. “Cause you’re right. We don’t know what’s fated, we can only guess and like if we did know then yeah…” He shrugs, eyes dropping down to his box before sighing again. “And it's just, like, really unfair.”

Monty listened as he placed the crate of glasses on the back bar. He turned with a grin as he heard the challenge Dale was hinting at.

“The hardest in the state, huh? I’m sure a lot of places make that claim.” But now he was intrigued because this smelled like a bet and Monty McQueen didn’t like to lose. “I’m a race car driver, Dale. I’m all about bets and most importantly, winning. What do you have in mind?”

“I mean, sure. And from what I hear you were a terrific driver… but if I’m not mistaken, you drove in circles… and mazes are not circles… ” Dale says, full on grin as he leans a bit more on the bar.

“I would love to brag about outsmarting you through a maze. I’m thinking we both enter at the same time, walk to the first fork and then pick a direction and may the best man win.”

“Ah, jeez — still, man, I’m sorry — I’m glad it was just the fidget toys and not the pogs or anything —” Nick made a show of shaking his head at himself as he went on his knees and started gathering all the fallen toys.

As Dale came down to help, he made sure to knock his hand against Dale’s a couple of times. “— oop, sorry —” he said, every single time, until finally he made his move. Just as the last of the toys were being picked up, with Nick putting back each toy carelessly into the box so it made a loud sound (misdirection!) he made the move to steal Dale’s watch off his wrist.

Unclasping it in one singular, smooth move, he made sure to keep talking the whole time as he slipped it into his pocket and put the box of fidget toys on the nearest table: “Well, anyway, I really appreciate you taking the time to listen to me and stuff — and, again, I’m so sorry about dropping all that. And thanks as well for letting me look at your collection, it’s honestly very cool,” he said with an eager smile.

“I gotta go now though, I got an afternoon class to head into — but call me, okay?” he said, already on his way out the door.

“For real though.” Dale laughed as he helped, going between “Oh, no worries!” and apologizing as he continued to knock into Nick. “I maybe went a bit overboard when I ordered these things.” Dale commented as he started to realize just how many of the same toy there were.

When they finally finished up, Dale realized Nick was saying he had to leave. As he stood up to put the box on his desk he replied.

“Oh yeah, you can't miss class. I still need to finish your statement but I can call you later and he’s out the door…” Dale trailed off as he realized that Nick had left. “Okay then…”

It wasn’t until later that night, when he stopped to pick up some dinner, that Dale realized his watch was stolen. He muttered out a string of profanities as he made a plan to track it down. He wasn’t going to go to the police, he really didn’t think it was necessary but he would definitely be tracking down Nick-if that even is his name- and having a stern conversation with him.

👻 ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ ─────────── “ i feel i’m partial to nick as well. we shared similar hair styles and color. ” mostly because in his youth freddy had that bright blonde hair that nick carter was known for. it made a young freddy jones feel more secure in himself. “ i did like aj’s entire aesthetic. uh, what’s pog ? ” he asked, brows furrowed together in confusion.

“ i’m guessing you’re big into 90s music. ” freddy said, nodding towards the vinyls.

“Aj really did take all the style didn’t he?” Dale says with a laugh as he picks up a cover of Zappa’s “Hot Rats” album and laughs at the question. “It’s a game.” He explains. “Honestly these days it’s truly archaic but at the time it was a blast. I adore 90’s music. They say that your teen years really form your taste you know. Plus as much as I am a fan of a digital playlist there is just something about that new record smell that is simply the best.”

He tucks the record under his arm and keeps looking. “What about you?”

“co-worker? i would have sworn-..well" riku said with a light snicker, abit embarrassed by the revelation, but he shrugged it off. he was idly adjusting his watch, hands deep in his pockets as he watched the owner approach his desk. riku disregarded the buzzing of his phone, which was accompanied by incoming texts.

“standards? i suppose you’re right in that respect. i would be totally impressed if you told me you host a podcast dedicated to preventing and solving crimes on the internet. it doesn’t take much to impress me”

“maybe something not so exciting. something that doesn’t involved fighting darkness at odd hours of the night”

“Yeah, we used to get that a lot. Not so much these days but thanks for the compliment!” He says before turning to walk the the mini-fridge towards the back of the room. He listens to Riku’s response, laughing a bit at the idea of having a podcast. If one was to google it, the might be able to find the failed fancast he attempted back in the late 2000’s but absolutely failed at.

“Oh!” Dale exclaimed, a bit too loudly for the situation if he’s being honest. “Do you Drake?” He asks and carries that excited energy with him. “He’s a old friend of mine. Also does the whole fighting-criminals-in-the-dead-of-night thing! I think he’s still going with the alias of ‘Darkwing’ but I could be wrong.

“Wheelbarrow it is,” she says with a nod, heading to a building that looks like the place where they receive visitors. “I think a huge pumpkin would be great, but remember, it won’t last forever. Maybe you can save the huge jack o’lantern for closer to Halloween?” she asked, turning to Dale.

“That is an excellent point.” Dale says as he mulls her words over. “They don’t make some kind of spray or something that stops the decay do they?” He says with a laugh. “Though I imagine if they did we’d have some sort of bunnicula situation after too long huh?” He says as they make their way past the welcoming gate and closer to the wheelbarrows.

“Oh, for sure, uhh …” Nick pauses, making a series of thinking noises, as he walks over to where Dale pointed. Fidget toys, prime distraction time.

“… Well, I use my headphones all the time. I was studying in the library and using them, and then I went to my dorm to drop off my studying stuff before going into the city … whoa!” Finally reaching the shelf, he has to blink as he takes in all the memorabilia.

“Dude, what if you just sell all this to a museum or something?” he asks, forgetting himself for a moment. He wasn’t into memorabilia, that steered a little too close to ‘sentiment’ territory, and that always got too complicated, but he could respect the collection.

Picking up the box of fidget toys (maybe he should steal one? They were really nice, after all), he heads back to Dale.

“Oh, I’m over near the East wing of Walt Uni — shit!” he trips over, and the box of fidget toys drops, scattering all around him and Dale’s feet. “Shit, dude, I’m so sorry —“

Dale nods as he continues mapping out the list of items with the campus map. He was starting to make a very loose timeline of events when Nick pulled his attention away.

“And risk them loosing something? Nah.” He says with a laugh. “Most of that was gifted to me anyways, so I can’t put a price on it. My mom kept it all in the condition you see it now for years. It’s also too niche for most museums anyway…” He looks back to the tablet, switching over to a different tab as he attempts to see if he can find a list of the students.

“Oh!” Dale says with a startle. “Oh, no worries man. Accidents happen all the time.” He says with a laugh. “As someone who is accident prone, I know how it its.”

Dale quickly scoots back in his chair and starts picking up the toys he finds near him.

sally’s eyes lit up when she realized it was dale. she was so happy to see him. “hazelnut, huh?” she asked with a grin. “i pinned you more of a mocha kind of guy.” she said with a laugh. “but i like hazelnut too. but when i can get pumpkin spice… i get pumpkin spice until i can’t get it anymore.”

she was curious how he’d been since their last talk at the gala. how life was. how the business had been doing. was chip back? should she even ask? it may be a sore subject. “how have you been? solve any good cases lately?”

"Gotta watch the chocolate intake, I get a little extra when I get chocolate ya know.” He says with a laugh. “I just don’t understand the over celebration of pumpkin spice.” He says with a shrug. “But if it makes you happy then good! You deserve it!”

“I’ve been okay. Had to leave town for a bit so just got back the other day. So far cases are far and few between but I have hope it will pick back up soon. How about you? You look busy, I’m not interrupting you am I?”
