Not a confession more of an observation. How fandoms usually work ~ is that all the best fics get the most likes/reblogs or kudos/comments. In the Leon fandom it's generally the complete reverse. The better fics that are more original, with a deeper story and better characterization of Leon get little to no engagement or support on here or Ao3/Wattpad. I cannot make it make any sense! Other than to say the fandom has become brain rotted by smut and they don't actually give a shit about Leon beyond making him fap material or some weird way to live out their trad wife fantasies. Sad times to love Leon, bro!

People piss and moan about who tags their fic as "x reader" but the real issue is people not tagging their work with what version of Leon/Chris appear in their story. I'm sick of thinking a fic sounds good, and going into it picturing RE2/4 Leon only for it to turn out to be RE9 Leon or some shit. Tag your Chris/Leon eras please, people!!!

People need to understand that when fans say they are fed up of seeing Leon written 'out of character' it's nothing to do with people writing him in scenarios we've never see him in. THAT'S FAN FIC, BABE! All we can do is write him how best we feel he'd act in those situations BASED ON consideration for the characterization/canon we see in the games and movies. What people mean when they say Leon (and other male characters) are being written OOC is when fans write shit that's absolutely contrary to his characterization and show they don't even know him and haven't taken any time to try. Examples: Leon -- a succinct man who does not ever really monolog in anything he's in-- being written as having verbal diarrhoea in the middle of sex! Leon -- who canonically shoots his shot with multiple women in almost every iteration of himself -- being written borderline virginal/as a man who's never had casual sex or flings/fwb situations. Leon -- who is canonically very respectful of women-- being written as a man who's into choking, and spitting in the mouths of women or worse with ddlg/incest kinks. A lot of these type fics feature heavy abusive undertones, including financial abuse (which he is the victim of). Leon --who is very stoic and professional-- becoming a complete manchildsimp for a girlfriend who is half his age and parading her around his workplace like he's proud of robbing the cradle and like no one would judge the shit out of him for it. He canonically goes for women his own age, give or take a few years -- not generational age gaps as fics have a hard on for!!!! NONE OF THIS WRITING FITS HIS CHARACTER or represents his canon correctly! It's not about the scenes or the plot he's put in, it's about how the fundamentals of writing him as a human get so fucked up in the name of being "hot" for smut fics or some bizarre wish fulfilment for girls (largely young and inexperienced and grossly mislead by fiction) who think it's sexy for a man to treat them like shit or trip over his dick for them. It's not Leon they're writing, it's just a glorified face claim!

The way people write about all the male characters in all RE games (especially leon) feels so one dimensional when the characters are so interesting and have stories of their own. And when writing they use one singular trait of said character and make it their entire personality, or even worse they write the character’s personality so much that it becomes an OC that just so happens to share the same name.

Yes i get that it’s all fictional but still.

Never fails to make me laugh when I see shippers using Death Island as a way to boost Cleon...when the two of them barely speak to one another the whole movie. Especially because Leon is so clearly seconds away from hitting on Jill the moment he claps eyes on her and shows far more admiration/interest in her than he ever does Claire.

Res Evil/Leon has been my fave for decades but this is my first foray into a Tumblr fandom and I am beyond shook at the fics I've seen. I agree with previous posters about how badly Leon is characterized in most, but the thing I cannot stand is this... "....'m ok" / "...s'good..." / "...yer’ g’na.." and "f’r me"... What kind of grammatical/phonetic bollocks is this? Absolutely abysmal! Get in the bin!

i think fandom would be a lot less toxic if people didn't post their headcanon as fact. simply saying "i think/i feel/i believe" before mentioning their hcs about leon (or which ever character/ship) would go a long way to preventing fanon becoming canon and stupid wars breaking out over people's (usually flawed) beliefs about a character.

I'm sick of people saying "who cares if Leon is written out of character, it's fan fic, if you don't like it don't read it." Hows about if you can't be bothered to try and write a character in character don't write them! Because when you don't write them in character (at all) then you're not actually writing that character and have no right to claim that you are - comprende?

My personal thought on Leon's ring is that Capcom just gave it to him so they could try to prevent people sexualizing his relationship with Grace by having him already be taken. It hasn't stopped them but I could imagine it would have been a lot worse if he hadn't had the ring.

bookmark this -- fandom engagement is gonna drop by more than 60% as soon as they confirm who leon married. all the immature larpers will move on to the next attractive fictional man and we will finally be free of trash x reader smut clogging up the tags every day. i don't want capcom to make any ship canon but the fact it will chase so many tourists out will be a blessing.

I am so sick of seeing the same phrases in Leon fics and "the wet cloth" as aftercare. I'm in four other fandom and I've never seen so many writers use the same phrases, and actions as Leon writers. I swear they're all copying each other or using AI or something because the sheer lack of depth and originality in Leon x Reader one shots here is abhorrent.

I was so hyped for Requiem but at the end I felt more relieved than sad that it finally finished.

I loved Grace and her part but Leon's storyline was forced. I also think it received such good reviews exactly because Leon was there and everybody is thirsting over him and willingly ignores the plot holes.

Had it been Jill, like it supposed to, people would tear the story apart and then Capcom would say this is why we can't have more female characters because players don't like them.

one thing i really hate about the infinite darkness series is a single line... "rest in peace, assholes" it does not sound like something leon would say to random government workers who got caught up in an outbreak. it makes him seem cold and callous and he's not. the whole reason he does what he does is to save people like them. yes he wisecracks he way through slaying zombies in the games, but he's never dismissive of loss of life like that.

it feels like the script writers just wanted to make him sound cool but it came off completely wrong for me. it would have worked if they'd been terrorists or something but innocent members of staff? nope, it rings so wrong to his character for me.

Controversial opinion but I don't actually like Claire and I hate the "she's Sherry's mom" narrative because are we really supposed to believe in 15 years of knowing Sherry, Chris never met her face to face? (as RE6 claims) I can't stand Ada either but Claire is just such a nothing burger for me and a raging "Mary Sue" with her being 19 and doing all that. I just don't see the point in bringing her back for future games.

I wish everyone under the age of 30 would GTFO of the Leon fandom. I am so sick of seeing these kids writing RE9 Leon like some woobified baby man. Literally just read a fic with him having matching phonecases with his college age girlfriend. GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! He's a 49 year old veteran with extensive trauma and demons he is not going to be doing any of this dumb shit they write. Including acting unprofessionally at work or becoming a simp for someone just out of childhood. Why can't they stick to writing Rookie or RE4 Leon and leave the old man to people who can write a grown ass man realistically. FFS!
