"I started by painting the vision that I saw for the campaign. The second image I painted was the painted teal lips. This was my way of applying the battle gear and saying, alright lets talk about this! Most of the images I was painting had an intended model, this (and one other) were the only ones that I didn't have someone specific in mind for. Jamie is one of our top demo specialists. She works with us almost every weekend, but up until now had never had a professional shoot. We had an impromptu meeting right before our shoot and it clicked! Jamie was suppose to be the teal lips. Sexual abuse happens to men too! Several people have expressed concern that we are only bringing awareness to female survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. That is because we have an all female team of models and each of these images were created by our team. We are trying to bring as much awareness to the topic as we can. We never intend to isolate a group based on our work.

We are half way through Monday! This weekend we explained the thought that went into each of our images. Here is the image I painted and the finished product. Didn't our team do an amazing job?! This image was meant to bring awareness to all of the people with a history of domestic abuse and sexual violence that are unable to talk about it. "Maranda Segovia's teal neck was the first of my series. I chose the neck because I felt like there is an invisible force that chokes us and keeps us from sharing our stories. It took me 2.5 years to share my story, and I didn't even intend to share it. I learned many days after our photoshoot that Maranda Segovia also had a past with domestic abuse. She wrote her story for the first time because of our campaign, which lead to me writing my story. It was an emotional time sitting in that coffee shop. I felt like a hand was loosening (and eventually was released) as I was typing. As has progressed, I have begun to understand these images were not completely my own creation. If anything I was just the vessel that got them out there."
