The house of Sarek on Earth was nothing as grand as the one back on Vulcan, but as the Ambassador between the world’s, it was logical for Sarek to have a place of residence that was reasonably substantial on Terran soil. Spock had not been there often himself, but he still felt slightly more at ease within the walls than he had in the formal meeting area earlier that day. The same could not be said for Spock’s companion; Jim’s body language suggested he was even more tense. It wasn’t until he spoke that Spock was able to determine the source of his distress.
❝ Yes. We must test the compatibility of our minds and if there are no complications, I will initiate a temporary bond. The purpose of such a bond is to connect the minds and prepare them for a full bond, which must be performed by an elder. It can occur naturally over time, but as you are human there is only a 12 per cent chance of it developing that way. ❞
Spock turned to Jim and regarded him for a moment.
❝ ——It will be a non-invasive procedure, I will only know what you wish me to know, and see what you wish me to see. The full bond is different, but if you desire, you can learn shielding techniques that will prevent mental transference… ❞
Something in Spock revolted at the words, even as he spoke them. Despite having no connection to Jim, the thought of blocking the bond they would create was painful. It went against every instinct Spock possessed, but it was understood that sacrifices had to be made in such an arrangement. He would not and could not force what was not mutually desired. He shifted minutely in his seat and suppressed his discomfort. Kaiidth.
❝ oh ---- uh - good. ❞
Jim replied quickly, running a quick hand through his shaggy blonde locks to push his bangs back from his face. he forces a smile then, a flash of pearly white teeth at the Vulcan standing beside him. at least there would be some kind of restraint.
❝ but what if - we - uh - are minds don't connect ? ❞
the younger man questioned suddenly, turning finally to face his future husband. the thought that he coulnd't find a match even with someone that had been chosen for him was terrifying in itself. but for some reason ---- he found himself wanting to find a bond bewteen himself an Spock only if to prove that he wasn't as messed up as everyone seemed to insist that he was.
❝ i mean - could something go wrong ? ❞
he refrases his question to sound less worried and overall more indifferent to the situation as if he could care less if they were right for each other. though by Jim's expression, it was quite obvious that the thought that somethig could go wrong was quite troublesome.
