Rey and Ben are a 1960s country singing duo who pretend to be in love on stage, while hating each other off stage.

Oh—and there was only one bed.

Reylo crossed with Walk the Line-ish vibes. Slightly angsty, occasionally non-linear slow burn. Posting a new chapter every couple days.

“Kate!” you shouted. “A bus could have many beds! It’s basically a vehicle full of beds!“

“Ah,” I replied, “but there was OnLY. oNE. BLanKeT.”

“It’s different for you and you know it,” he insists, sitting up on his elbow. “They’ve been leaving you alone because they don’t think you…do this kind of thing.”

“I don’t.”

“And after I’m gone, you’ll never hear the end of it.”

Chapter 9 makes this fic COMPLETE!

“Say, did you manage to get any sleep?”

“Not much,” she answers honestly.

Rey pulls her coat a little tighter around her torso, and Ben is once again torn between wanting that smug bastard to see her neck and knowing what a terrible idea that would be.

“Dang it. Well, maybe you can catch a nap after the matinee.” Dameron leaps back to his feet. “Thing is, I knew Solo wouldn’t actually do a damn thing. But I’ll bet he was giving you a piece of his mind all night.”

Ben notices the corner of her mouth curve up the slightest little amount. Or, at least, he thinks he does.

“Somethin’ like that.”

Through a Mirror, Darkly.

I wanted to experiment with Rey and Ben seeing but not seeing each other in dreams as small children. Here, Ben is presented not just as an embodiment of the galaxy’s darkness, but as Rey’s darkness specifically. Does her resentment and desolation about her absent parents get funneled through him? Does Ben’s love and understanding find their way to Rey? Rey also shows her darkness,something that differentiates her from being a pure martyr with flat virtuousness.

I also love the Force Bond staging in TLJ, so this comic echoes that format with panels split down the middle. In this way, it is equally Ben and Rey’s point of view.

I saw this comic back when it was first making the rounds and it floored me. It solidified my love for these characters and their story. For some reason when your more recent comics were blowing me over I didn’t make the connection that this one (that I hadn’t seen in a while) was one of yours too.

Imagine my surprise when I got your book and was reading through it and got to the first page of this beautiful comic. I about screamed because of course this one was also yours! Of course these comics were all from the same person!

If anyone who needs convincing to order Miss Bliss’ book happens to see this, then please - order the book! We need to support the art and storytelling that we want to see in the world! (It’s also just such a rad book!)

It’s probably also worth mentioning that if you’re a Ben Solo/Kylo Ren fan then you should buy those TROKR comics as well! Support the characters you want to see in the world too!!!

@awentworth - Thanks for the lovely review of my book! This is one of my fave comics and my first reylo one, so I’m glad to hear you enjoyed it. I just HAD to add it to the book with my post-TRoS works - it embodies so many important things about these characters’ story to me. It’s been a while since I first posted it (and my reylo art style has changed a bit since then), but I was moved to see how it ties into the TROKR comics.
