What kind of storytelling is this? Is this the same multilayered and complex character of Kylo from TFA and TLJ? Or is this some one-dimensional Vader-like villain? It seems the latter is true. Kylo was stalking Rey for most of the movie, the intimacy of the force bonds from TLJ was gone, he was chasing her, she was running away or acting like a lunatic and trying to kill him. This is not the Kylo and Rey I know. Of course the throne room scene was the reason they ended on bad terms but the path JJ chose for the characters for the two thirds of the film was awful. Such regression. He could have made them enemies at the beginning but slowly working together and training together-preparing for their fight with Palpatine. Kylo had just found out that his whole life was a big lie and a manipulation and that the voices in his head weren't who he thought they were and his reaction was: "oh well, ok, I have no reaction to this big revelation, it doesn't matter that I haven't been talking to my grandfather this whole time, I'll just kill this dude and rule the galaxy." No shock on this face, nothing. They could have used that revelation as Ben's wake up call and him slowly bonding with Rey, training her and preparing for their fight against the ultimate evil. Instead, we got a last minute redemption which is an insult to the acting of the wonderful and talented actor that is Adam Driver who could have given so much more for the portrayal of Ben Solo if only he'd been given the chance
