How technology impacts the education and learning processes of PreK-12th grade students?

My name is Regina Hairston, and I am a senior at Old Dominion University. I have created this page to explore the effects technology had on the education and learning processes of PreK-12th grade students.

There is no doubt technology had transformed teaching and the way students learn in the classroom however, in the world of education, there are those who believe technology is a vital asset in the classroom and there are those who completely oppose it. Either way, technology has become a vital way to motivate a wired generation of students to learn. Do interactive simulations and illustrations produce a much greater depth of understanding of a concept introduced in the classroom? Or are the use of computers and other technology useless and a distraction in classrooms?

It will be important to determine if incorporating technology in your classroom improves a child’s ability to grasps different materials, enrich and enhance traditional classroom experiences, and help create individualized interventions for all types of learners at all levels of proficiency. Or if integrating technology into the classroom provides no real contribution to enhancing a child learning experience.

It’s no secret that using technology in the classroom, in K-12 and in higher education, has been a controversial debate for the last couple of decades. Parents, teachers, policy makers, and students alike have weighed and argued the potential benefits versus the risks and consequences of classroom technology, not only referring to the devices many students personally own, but also when referring to the integration of tools into the everyday education experience. Through my role at Top Hat, I speak with an average of 100 professors per week, and meet with dozens to discuss their teaching styles, their fields of work, and how they might integrate technology into their classrooms. Using technology in the classroom in grades K-12 has been a controversial debate since being introduced and used in classrooms. Technology can help promote development of character traits and such skills as communication and cultural awareness, according to a new report from the World Economic Forum and the Boston Consulting Group.

Here is an example of how K-12 educators and policymakers putting emphasis on the importance of social and relational skills through the use of technology in the classroom. Research has shown that students perform better academically and have improved technological skills when they receive both instructional and technology tools in school.

This article explores how educators are faced with challenges due in part to the lack of technology devices in the classroom. Providing curtain technology for some school districts is a struggle. Although most school access to some technology devices they are old and out dated. This causes educators to spend more time helping those who do not have access to the tools, preventing some students falling behind. Because some schools lack the funding to provide technology needs it creates new hurdles for both the teachers and their students.

I found this post very interesting, but found no real facts to support whether it is true. Is investing more money into technology and devices the real answer to educating children? The use of iPads in classrooms seems to be one of the key components in teaching all children to collect, explore and learn using technology. IPads in classrooms seems to be the key to enhancing children‘s creativity and a great way to increase knowledge and enhance learning.

This is a very interesting article that explores whether the pen is mightier than the keyboard when taking notes in class. Three experiments concluded that students should not take notes on their laptop when preparing for tests. According to this experiments student that hand write notes did slightly better at factual recall, better on conceptual questions when they took notes without the using technology their laptops. Mueller and Oppenheimer, the authors of this study, concluded: laptops may be doing more harm in classrooms than good.

Teachers believe that students will need technology skills even more in the future to be successful in the workforce. Technology allows students to locate answers to questions, problem solve and communicate. Also student must be able to judge the quality of the information, writing effectively and behaving responsibly online is essential in navigating the internet successfully.

Gee determined though his research, 14 key benefits games have in educating students of them there were several that I found interesting that I had not found in any of my other research.
