In defense of Susan Sarandon. I don’t know how the myth got started that Susan is ashamed or has tried to disassociate herself from her participation in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It is simply not true. She has done countless interviews on the subject, participated in it’s 10th anniversary celebration and most recently did press honoring the film on it’s 40th as well as participated in a one on one discussion of the film with director Baz Luhrmann at NYC’s IFC theater (formerly the Waverly) where RHPS got its start as a midnight film.

She has a friendship with Tim Curry that dates back to his days with the show when it played the Roxy in Los Angeles. In fact it was after visiting him backstage before a performance that producer Lou Adler asked her if she would be interested in trying out for the role of “Janet” in the then planned film version. She auditioned and she got the part.

She was a wonderful Janet in the film and has always advocated on the film’s behalf as far as her busy work schedule has allowed.

In fact I would go so far as to say that her fame has brought even more attention and new fans to the film once they find out that she was a part of it.

It saddens me that this myth continues to be perpetuated. She is proud of the film’s message as well as the part she plays in its legacy.

She has deserved every honor, accolade and continued success in a career that is still going strong in over 40 years.
