Bully Oc Introduction

Chioma (Chio) Chiamaka

Background:

Chioma (nicknamed Chio), is a Nigerian 15 year old girl who was sent to Bullworth Academy after her parents wanted her to learn how to be independent. Although she prefers to be called Chioma instead of Chio, she allows close friends to call her by her nickname. Her uniform consists of a grey vest, a black tie, and a black skirt. Chioma has two variants of the vest, one with the school logo and one without it. She typically wears the one without the school logo and claims she does so because "The school logo is rather hideous."

Chioma's not typically outgoing, but when you get to know her she's a rather sweet girl. Out of the 6 cliques, Chioma can be seen hanging out mostly with the nerds although she claims to not officially be apart of them and instead identifies as non-clique. Despite this, she is often a target for bullies because she's associated with the nerds to an extent. She enjoys art and music class the most, and dreams of one day becoming a musician in the future.

When not at classes, Chioma spends her time in her dorm or can frequently be seen at the nearby pizza parlor. She enjoys walking a lot, and tends to walk to most places if they're not too far. She struggles in extremely crowded places and tends to avoid events which may contain such (ex: carnivals). Along with her earlier mentioned hobbies, she reads often, but prefers graphic novels over chapter books. Chioma has the ability to study well, but she does not try hard in classes she doesn't like (Math and Shop), hence why she's failing.

Relationships:

In terms of interactions with the main three, Chioma is close friends with Petey and enjoys his company. She'll sometimes go to seek him out whenever she has time to engage in conversation with him. Chioma will sometimes hang out at Petey's house during the summer whenever Gary isn't there. ( <- Based on headcanon!! )

As for Jimmy, she respects him, but does not try to interact unless necessary. She feels as if he is roped into to much conflict, and would much rather stay away unless she absolutely needs his help.

With Gary, she doesn't interact with him at all. What she hears about him is mostly based on rumors that have spread around school, such as him being a "crazy, manipulative freak", and since she doesn't plan on digging to see if it's true or not, she just stays away from him. In the events after Gary gets released from Happyvaults, Petey tries to convince Chioma that Gary has changed, but she dismisses his claims and refuses to believe him.

I only did the relationships that would matter the most, based on the fact that she tries to avoid anyone who seems to cause trouble.

The Kowalski house always smelled faintly like old books, laundry detergent, and whatever grandma Kowalski had baked earlier that morning.

It was warm in a way Bullworth rarely was.

Not physically, though the rattling box fan in the living room helped, but emotionally. Soft around the edges. Lived in.

Chioma noticed that the second she stepped through the front door behind Petey.

“Sorry it’s kinda messy,” Petey said immediately, nearly tripping over his own shoes in the entryway. “I told grandma I cleaned but I mostly just shoved everything under my bed and hoped for the best.”

Chioma snorted.

“You literally warned me before I even looked.”

Petey pushed his glasses up nervously. “Yeah, well. Managing expectations.”

Outside, summer in Bullworth dragged heavy and golden across the neighborhood. Cicadas buzzed somewhere in the distance. Kids shouted faintly down the street. Heat shimmered off the pavement.

Inside, though, it felt quieter.

Safer.

Chioma kicked off her shoes near the door. “Honestly? This is cleaner than Jimmy’s dorm.”

“That’s because Jimmy lives like a raccoon,” Petey replied instantly.

She burst out laughing.

The look of pure victory on his face afterward made it obvious he’d been hoping that joke would land all day.

Most of the afternoon passed lazily.

Petey’s house had that kind of summer atmosphere where time stopped mattering.

They sprawled across the living room floor with snacks between them while some terrible movie played on mute because they’d spent most of it talking over the dialogue anyway.

Chioma flipped through one of Petey’s comic books while he sat cross-legged nearby trying, and failing, not to stare every time she smiled at something.

“You organize these alphabetically?” she asked.

Petey looked mildly defensive. “There’s also chronological sections.”

“That’s somehow worse.”

“It’s efficient..”

“It’s concerning.”

He pointed accusingly at her. “You just don’t get it.”

By early evening, the heat softened slightly.

Grandma Kowalski had smiled knowingly when Petey awkwardly asked if they could take food upstairs, and now the two of them sat on the bedroom floor sharing a plate of fries between scattered papers, books, and game cases.

Petey’s room looked exactly like him.

Messy in careful ways.

Stacks of books beside the bed. Scribbled notes pinned near his desk. Half-finished homework abandoned under a lamp.

Chioma sat with her back against the bedframe while Petey rambled about something school-related from his spot beside her.

She liked listening to him talk.

Even when he got sidetracked.

Especially then.

“…and Mr. Galloway was definitely asleep during class last semester,”

Chioma hummed, stealing another fry.

Petey stopped mid-sentence.

“You’re doing that thing again.”

“What thing?”

“The listening thing.”

She blinked. “I’m just listening.”

“Yeah but you do this face.”

“What face?”

Petey squinted at her. “The one where you look like I’m smarter than I actually am.”

Chioma grinned slowly.

“Well. Don’t ruin it for yourself.”

Petey laughed so suddenly he almost dropped the plate.

Later, they ended up outside on the back steps as sunset painted the neighborhood orange and pink.

The air smelled like grass and warm pavement.

Petey sat beside her, shoulders barely brushing hers.

Not quite touching.

But close.

Close enough to notice.

“You ever think about leaving Bullworth?” Chioma asked quietly.

Petey looked out toward the street.

“All the time.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah..” He shrugged a little. “But sometimes I think maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if the right people stayed too.”

Chioma looked over at him.

Petey immediately looked like he regretted speaking.

“I mean—not that I’m saying you have to stay,” he said quickly. “That sounded weird. Forget I said that.”

“No,” Chioma said softly, smiling a little. “I get what you mean.”

The nervous tension in his shoulders eased.

For a while they just sat there listening to distant traffic and the hum of summer bugs.

Easy silence.

The good kind.

Then Chioma suddenly lifted her phone.

Petey blinked.

“What are you doing?”

She angled the camera toward both of them.

“Documenting.”

“Chioma—”

Click.

The picture came out horribly.

Petey mid-protest. Eyes half shut. Terrible lighting.

Chioma immediately burst out laughing.

Petey groaned. “Delete that.”

“Absolutely not.”

“You’re evil.”

“You invited me here.”

“That was my first mistake.”

She leaned against his shoulder, still laughing quietly.

Petey stopped complaining after that.

Mostly because he could feel the warmth of her there beside him.

And because, for the first time in a long while, summer didn’t feel lonely anymore.

In between seasons

Summer at Bullworth always felt louder than it should’ve been.

Even when classes thinned out and half the students disappeared for holidays, the air buzzed, heat clinging to skin, cicadas screaming from the trees, the pavement warm enough to feel through the soles of your shoes.

Petey wasn’t built for summer.

He sat on the low brick wall near the schoolyard, sleeves rolled unevenly, fanning himself with a crumpled worksheet he hadn’t even tried to finish. His glasses kept slipping down his nose, and every few seconds he’d push them back up, like maybe this time they’d stay.

They didn’t.

“You’re going to melt,” a voice said.

Petey startled, actually startled, nearly dropping the paper. “Oh—! I mean—hi—sorry—I didn’t—”

Chioma stood in front of him, one eyebrow slightly raised, but not in a mean way. Never in a mean way. Just… observant.

“You always apologize before I even say anything,” she pointed out.

Petey flushed. “I—well—just in case.”

She didn’t respond to that. Instead, she held something out to him, a bottle, condensation beading along the sides.

He blinked. “Is that—”

“Water,” she said. “Cold. Revolutionary, I know.”

He let out a small, nervous laugh and took it carefully, like it might vanish if he wasn’t gentle enough. “Th—thank you.”

She shrugged, but there was something softer in her eyes as she watched him take a sip. “You looked like you needed it.”

Petey nodded quickly. “I—yeah. I did. That’s—really nice of you.”

There was a pause. Not awkward. Just… quiet.

Chioma leaned against the wall beside him, close enough that their shoulders almost brushed. Almost.

“What were you doing?” she asked, nodding at the paper.

Petey looked down at it like he’d forgotten it existed. “Oh—uh—nothing, really. I mean, I was trying to, but—” He gave a small, helpless gesture. “My brain’s kind of… gone.”

She hummed. “Yeah. Heat does that.”

Another pause. This one lighter.

“…You wanna not do that together?” she added.

Petey blinked again. “Not… do it?”

“Yeah,” Chioma said, glancing out at the empty yard. “We could sit here and absolutely not do work. As a team.”

There was the faintest hint of a smile on her face.

Petey felt something warm bloom in his chest, something that had nothing to do with the weather.

“I’d like that,” he said.

And he really, really did.

By winter, everything had changed.

Bullworth felt smaller in the cold. Quieter. Like the walls held sound instead of letting it bounce around. Snow gathered in uneven piles along the paths, crunching underfoot, the air sharp enough to sting when you breathed too fast.

Petey still sat in the same spots.

But he wasn’t alone anymore.

“Your hands are freezing,” Chioma said, frowning slightly as she reached out.

Petey instinctively pulled back. “Oh—no, it’s fine, I’m—”

She caught his wrist anyway.

He went very still.

Her hands were warmer than his, of course they were, and she held his gently, turning them over like she was inspecting something fragile.

“You didn’t bring gloves,” she said.

“I—forgot,” Petey admitted, voice quieter now.

“You always forget.”

“I don’t always—” He stopped. “…Okay, I do.”

She huffed softly, but there was no real annoyance in it. Just familiarity.

Without another word, she tugged one of her gloves off with her teeth, awkward, a little clumsy, and then pulled it onto his hand instead.

Petey’s brain completely short-circuited.

“Chioma, you don’t have to—”

“I know,” she said simply, adjusting the glove so it fit better. “I want to.”

He swallowed. “But then your hand will be cold.”

She shrugged again, like it didn’t matter. “I’ll survive.”

Petey looked down at their hands, her bare one still loosely holding his gloved one, and something tightened in his chest in a way that wasn’t uncomfortable. Just… a lot.

“You’re always doing that,” he said softly.

“Doing what?”

“Helping me before I even ask.”

Chioma stilled for a second.

Then, quieter than usual, “You don’t really ask.”

Petey laughed a little, but it came out shaky. “Yeah. I guess I don’t.”

Another pause.

Snow fell lightly around them now, soft and slow, catching in Chioma’s hair, in Petey’s sleeves, settling into the silence.

“…You’ve gotten better,” she added after a moment.

“At what?”

“At not apologizing for everything.”

Petey blinked. “I—have?”

She nodded. “You didn’t apologize just now.”

He thought about it.

Realized she was right.

“…Oh,” he said, a little surprised.

Chioma’s mouth curved, just slightly. “See?”

Petey smiled back, small, but real.

The kind that came easier these days.

The kind that stayed longer.

“…You’ve gotten better too,” he said after a second.

She tilted her head. “At what?”

Petey hesitated, then said it anyway.

“Letting people… stay.”

For once, Chioma didn’t have a quick reply.

Her gaze dropped to their hands again, still loosely linked, still warm despite the cold.

“…Yeah,” she said, almost to herself.

Neither of them pulled away.

Not then.

Not for a while.
