Cain seemed confused for a moment. Maybe not confused, more like searching for something. Thinking hard. But then she saw the moment it dawned on him and she nodded back. Yes, it had been centuries she would imagine and that response confirmed for her that he was the kind of hound that had first come to mind. But still, she had to get the worrisome part out of the way before she could let her thoughts go anywhere else. “They’re here. That man, the one my sister was hugging…he is the carver. They were held in a prison in the fae realm but there was a breach, there and in the wall that separates that world from this one," she said it in a bit of a rush, despite the soothing warmth of him, the space, calming her the longer she was there. “If he is here…the others are too. I know it. I can feel it.” She reached out to touch him instinctively searching for that added bit of comfort absentmindedly, the same sort of soothing she found in that ring around her neck. “That one, he is mostly harmless, but his siblings…it’s not good Cain.”
they're here. that was the only thing that he heard - more like the only thing that that registered fully. not just anyone, but pagan gods that disappeared more years than he'd wanted to think about. and they were now in new orleans? for what? what did they want with this city? then the rest of what she said slowly started to seep into his thoughts. "the carver..?" another pause, then he spoke again, giving her a sidelong look, "the bone carver? why was your sister hugging the bone carver?" something was telling him this conversation was going to get more and more curious the longer they spoke. "what you're telling me is new orleans has gods walking among them? not only that, but ones that were locked in a prison?" a pause as he realized what she'd said about the prison. "a fae prison at that." his dark daze trailing over her slowly. "a fae prison that they somehow broke out of?" he'd met a few fae in his life, but it was only those that traveled somewhere they probably shouldn't have been. which meant that she was fae of some kind.
"you're fae." it wasn't a question, it was more of a blunt observation, an amused chuckle leaving him.
"more about that in a moment. you said there was a breach in the wall that separates this realm from the fae realm, how do you know? and why wasn't it repaired?" he always thought that the fae were quick to deal with things like that? this conversation was more questions than it was answers, but cain was not intending it to be like an interrogation. relaxing his shoulders, his foot slipped from the table as he turned to look at her more. reaching out, he rested his hand on the side of her neck, stroking her cheek slowly. "breathe, mykie."
all her words coming out in one breath, but he made sense of them all. mostly. "what do you mean by that one is mostly harmless? if what i know about the deathless is true, harmless is the last descriptor i would use."
