Heartache To Heartache || Haven&Ridley
Ridley sat in a dimly lit corner of a hole in the wall bar in some part of the Big Apple she hadn't cared to explore before. It wasn't the best, or the worst part of town. It was something different... out of her norm. And exactly what she needed.
She almost felt uneasy, sitting off to the side in the miniscule light. Usually she would have perched herself in the middle and presented herself in the most alluring manner she could fathom. But today she didn't want to attract the flies, as it were. She wanted peace and solitude. She cracked a peanut open and contemplated taking a trip to Underhill to visit the Brewmaster and indulge in a drink worthy of her tolerance.
She sighed and slumped forward, letting her hair fall around her face and curtain her off from the rest of the world.
The one they called Psylocke had done a true number on her. For so many years she had carefully built walls around that era of her past. Viktor had been the that filled her lungs... And as most love stories went, her breath left her one day, gasping and clawing for breath.
There was a reason she had cursed her tears over him to freeze in their tracks... But lately, she just couldn't shake it.
A feeling rippled over her, a kindred emotion. It was strong, and raw. She looked up from her solitude of draped her and down the bar. A few seats away was a young woman, clutching a glass of something dark and smooth. Ridley watched her, and in her eyes she could see it: the heartache from being broken.
Before she gave herself enough time to think it through, she hopped off her stool and sauntered over to the girl. She closed back in on the bar beside her and patted the surface.
"Her next round is on me." She nodded at the tender. She pulled out a stool and sat herself and her drink down beside the stranger.
She looked at her, knowingly. "And make it a double!" She called as she continued to stare at the girl. She hoisted her glass and clinked it against her new-found bar mate's. "To the assholes who keep bars in business." With that she turned up her glass and drained it.
