He watches her idly for a while, suddenly as if a statue. Green points behind that impassive battle mask just locked-on to her own emerald swirls, and even Daigoro stills slightly, glancing up at his master before returning his attentions to the Al Bhed. The hound is not worried, and in fact seems to know more about this situation than any canine should.

After silence reigns, he shifts slightly, holding out his hand as he had done so many times to summoners.

‘ ‘ Make me an o f f e r, Lady Rikku. ’ ’

His prices were famously extortionate, ludicrous in fact to all that did not know the true might he wielded. His swords were sharp, his knives piercing and his hound faithful; but moreso than that, there was the Zanmato, the demon-cutting sword that no force could offer defence to. His power was worth every penny he took from his employer.

But perhaps, just this once, for the sake of old bonds and the implication he knew his battle hound was giving him with its own stare… Perhaps, just this once, he would offer a discount.

  on one hand, the thief doesn’t expect much of a reaction. a scoff, a roll of his glowing green eyes. no one takes her seriously, so it doesn’t surprise her that this aeon wouldn’t either.  he stills though, and that is far more unnerving than she dares to let on. his hand moves, and he speaks and rikku shifts nervously. the worst thing he can say is no, maybe laugh at the offer. a bruised ego is better than a zanmato’d face.   carefully, she unties one of the pouches to her belt. she’s not entirely sure how much gil is in there, but it’s a lot. more than probably a girl should be carrying on her at any given time, but the al bhed were nothing if not prepared for anything.  ❛ so... i don’t have a whole lot of anything more than that, but hey! i’m adventurer so uh... ❜ she shifts from one foot to another, arm bent with her hand in a fist,  ❛ forty percent cut on whatever gil i make from finding neat stuff. ❜

He didn’t care for Brother, or the rest of his crew to be honest. Shinra was a genius, probably the greatest technological mind to ever exist. He could respect that he guessed. Buddy and Brother however… well they didn’t see eye to eye on some things. More specifically Brother didn’t like Gippal’s eye seeing Rikku, and Gippal didn’t give a damn… In the end they were Al-Bhed though, and that meant something to all of them, even if it didn’t to anyone else.  “Who says I’m not here on Machine Faction business?” He stated the question nonchalantly, a hand falling to his hip as he smiled that same devilish grin. “Oui ghuf fro E’s rana, E’s rana vun oui.”

  most of the al bhed rarely saw eye to eye on all things. that was what was so great about her father, he was able to unite them all. at least, he was. the destruction of home had once again tossed them all to the wayside, and with spira beginning to accept them. it was easier for some to assimilate, to branch out and be unafraid of retaliation. none were more apparent on this lack of shooting for the same goal as brother and gippal. brother was, rightly so, protective of his little sister, but he’s respectful. ...tries to be.    the leader’s words cause her own head to tilt, she knows better. that gippal’s tongue is a sword and he’s awfully skilled with it. he chooses to speak in al bhed his intentions, and she wants to be shocked that he’d be so bold. it’d be easier to speak in spiran, where if brother was listening he’d not be able to understand so quickly.     ❛ well when you say stuff like that it makes it obvious, ❜ rikku’s gloved hand goes to the back of her neck, rubbing at the skin briefly as she feels her cheeks warm. her lower lip is clenched between rows of teeth for a moment as she ponders an appropriate response.  ❛ thought you were busy with work. ❜

His gaze is anchored on Daigoro for a moment, and then onto Rikku for another moment longer. In comparison to some things he recalls, these memories are young and still fresh; but they come all the same, a younger Al Bhed with his Summoner. A younger Al Bhed that had snatched up any chance she got to pay attention to the hound, even if she was wary about his own proximity.

For him, this scene and the scene of years before could be one day and another.

Time is skewed for those as old as he is.

He imagines the Hypello have made some form of record of his presence, perhaps in a picture of a sphere recording. Maybe. He wouldn’t know, he didn’t pay them much mind during the whole crossing; they were relevant when it came to paying his way, but they were not going to be contractees. They had no need of his service.

Admittedly… Work had been scarce. People were, understandably, scared of the re-occurrence of Aeons; they didn’t understand why he had returns, they were afraid of others returning, and he, in true form, did not make effort to correct them. They were… Unimportant.

  there’s thousands of questions that run through the thief’s head, and she’s not entirely sure where one ends and the other begins. something must have happened when tidus came back, though, of that rikku’s almost certain. she wonders if he’s weary, like auron was. were aeons even capable of exhaustion? rikkus doesn’t pretend to know when he speaks once more, his duty. ever faithful even in un-life, apparently. the visage of him riding a shoopuf alongside daigoro is something that causes a smile to tug at her sun-kissed lips.   trepidation isn’t a feeling that rikku’s all that familiar with, yet she’s wary. each time she’s had to face an aeon it ended with her eventually having to fight them. the group had been lucky, worn and incredibly lucky to succeed in defeating him. lightning seldom strikes thrice in the same location.     ❛ well um... are your prices still really high because i could use a hand in some fiend-killing. ❜

Responding to Rikku with a smile, “Hey, it’ll be okay!” and a pat on the shoulder wouldn’t be good enough here. He could hear the pain in her voice, and more importantly… He knew her pain. Not being able to go home, losing most of the people you had known… Fighting your way through monsters and dodging dancing flames that destroyed your home along the way was something he knew all too well. 

But of course, he couldn’t just say “I know how it feels, Rikku!” She thought he had dreamed Sin’s attacked on Zanarkand, she’d likely think Tidus was mocking her grief if he brought up Zanarkand. There was really only one other thing he could do…

“Hey, Rikku, if you need to talk about what happened at Home, I’m here to listen, you know?”

  rikku doesn’t understand what can drive people to hate so violently that they feel the need to exterminate an entire race of people. a people they made life hell for throughout the years for questioning yevon. wakka said the al bhed deserved the bad things that happened to them, and by his theory - they deserved that kind of end. she’s angry and rightly so, and not even tidus’s attempts at cheering her up make a dent in her own anger, her own mourning. her small body’s practically shaking as she leans against the wall of the long corridor, tears welling up in her spiral eyes.    ❛ i don’t understand, ❜ she breathes, her voice shaky as her face hides in her hands.                                                                               ❛ i hate yevon. they take everything. ❜
