A Family Dinner Invitation

“I’m bringing my friend over for dinner tomorrow.”

The simple sentence had caused her family to explode into a frenzy, voices rising in a cacophony of clashing sounds. Elaine had almost immediately regretted bringing it up, but she hadn’t wanted to say it over and over again. Telling them all at once was best, even if it made them twitter like a flock of birds.

She had invited Tidus over simply because they had been friends for so long, but he hadn’t met any of her family. Elaine figured it was time to change that, and so he would come over. She hadn’t factored in her family’s reaction and the buzzing for the next day. What did he like to eat? Should they dress up for this? When would he be coming over? Should there be appetizers? Should they serve an after-dinner drink?

Elaine said nothing about this to Tidus, however, when she came to pick him up. She knew it would be easier on him if he didn’t show up alone, when any one of them could open the door. Thankfully they had all agreed on a casual dinner, so he didn’t have to force himself into a suit. “You look nice,” she said approvingly, giving his outfit the once-over again. No one would think him a shady sort with what he had on. “Thanks for coming over, Tidus; I promise my family will love you.”

There was so much to choose from and Yuna simply wasn’t sure. “Um, well,” she turned on the spot, eyes searching this way and that. The Ferris Wheel looked like fun, but maybe it was best to save it for later? And she wasn’t particularly hungry yet though there were several scents that made her stomach interested. One of the booths seemed like a good starting place but there were so many! “It all looks good!” How was she supposed to decide? “You know, now that I think about it, I’ve never been on a rollercoaster.”

魔術 ------ It had been some time since his return to the island, the shock having worn off for all that knew the truth of his origins rather quickly. Yet each of them had held their breath in silent preparation of his disappearing again for none of them knew how exactly he had come back to them in the first place.

There were no Fayth to dream of him, or at least none that they knew of, and Sin was no more, so his link had been effectively severed. Perhaps it was because of this that she approached the blonde with some trepidation. he was sat at the shore, watching the sun set with knees drawn up and a content look upon his face.

The mage almost felt bad for intruding upon his moment of peaceful solitude, but enough time had passed that she felt it safe to reform their old friendship anew. ❝Beautiful, is it not?❞ She asked as she sat beside him, Mog jumping from her arms and padding off to play in the sand.

Elaine stood close to Tidus, unsure about all the people around them. They were giving her funny looks and she swore she spotted one of them pointing. It’s the clothes, probably, she told herself, smoothing the skirt of her dress. Today she’d chosen a deep, midnight blue dress that had a white lace hem. Whatever, not my problem... really...

“I think I like that one,” she said, pointing at a movie called La La Land. “I’ve heard a lot of good reviews!” But, just in case, she added, “I’ve also heard good reviews for the newest Disney movie, if you’d rather.”

Elaine’s lip quivered but she could not bring herself to speak. Tidus brought her inside and then wrapped her up in a towel, but she still had not said a word.

Sometimes, it really was hard to get past the lump in your throat.

He seemed to realize she couldn’t speak just yet, as instead of asking her again, he brought her to sit down next to him. It was here that she burst into tears. “Oh, Tidus!” she cried, rubbing the towel onto her face when the rest of her needed it.

At last she coughed out, “I can’t sleep and I’m scared! I’m sca-ared of-of-of waking up and - ” It was hard to explain herself through her tears and her fear. Normally she would have confided in Cain, but Cain and Kaito were away on a mission, so she chose to run to Tidus in the rain.

ship I’m indifferent to: There are a lot to be honest?? I mean I guess John/Mary from Sherlock is one such example; they’re cute, I appreciate them, but by golly do I not get the feels I get from Sherlolly.

ship I find disgusting: Honestly? Any ship involving Ienzo/Zexion between the other five apprentices. He’s a child and they’re old enough to be his parents at the very least, and that age gap does not get any better in Chain of Memories or Dream Drop Distance.

ship I secretly like: Uh well I guess I secretly like Sherlolly (surprise!). I don’t talk about Sherlock much considering the fandom. I think only my family knows. And now so do all of you lol

ship that’s unpopular that I still like: ICHIHIME AND IT IS CANON MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHHABut seriously, this pairing is so hated by the fandom at large that it was a really gutsy move by Kubo to do what he wanted and not what his fans wanted.

ship that $)#(_@!$$( me off: I don’t really think it’s the ships that do but the people who ship them that do (well… except aku/roku because of too many reasons, but even then, maybe it’s exacerbated by the shippers). I guess so/ri/kai does in a way, because “how dare you perpetuate ship wars by NOT shipping this” has been shoved in my face before. No, no, and no, I will not ship a threesome, goodbye, take your pretentious self out the door, and maybe then you’ll realize that shipping them as a threesome does not “solve” ship wars.
