chapter sixteen [西村力] my first love was a boy ✧ NISHIMURA RIKI (NI-KI) X M!READER

You reach forward, attempting to stretch out by grabbing your toes while sitting on the floor. The practice room floor was hard, bouncy, but uncomfortable.

Jaehyun watches himself in the mirror, making faces to himself. Riwoo watches himself but repeats a dance instead, practicing to make it perfect. Taesan taps away on his phone while pacing, and Leehan sits on the floor a foot away from you, looking up at Jaehyun and Riwoo.

Woonhak opts to sit next to you on the floor. He whines and complains about how his back ached. Your own thoughts are too loud to comprehend his words.

"Y/n?" Woonhak suddenly pushes your shoulder with his palm, "Were you even listening...?" He pouts.

"Uh..." You blink, turning to him, "Yeah."

"Okay, then what did I say?" He crosses his arms.

You freeze, unable to conjure up anything. Before you can open your mouth, Woonhak groans.

"You've been distracted since yesterday," He points out, "What are you thinking about?"

"You're nosey." You sigh, leaning back to lay on the ground. Woonhak laughs.

"So what? What if I was just worried about you? Hm?"

"Since when are you worried about anyone?"

Woonhak pushes your knees, "I'm for real."

You close your eyes, the lights on the ceiling straining your eyeballs. You could tell Woonhak of your troubles, but it wouldn't matter. You didn't want to waste the time explaining how you felt. It wouldn't do any good. You might even get embarrassed.

You left Enhypen's dorm early this morning, being violently woken up by Jay and a pillow. Ni-ki had been rushed out so fast that you barely got to talk to him. You couldn't remember if he had said anything to you besides 'Let yourself out!' while he was fixing his hair as he exited.

For a moment you were alone in Ni-ki's room. It felt wrong like you weren't supposed to be there. You got up quickly after they left, cleaned up your food from last night, and left the dorm immediately.

You wanted to text him. You wanted to talk to him, be near him. You were both busy. It was normal for you guys to go days without talking, but ever since last night, you have felt more clingy than ever. You wanted nothing more than to be in his arms again. You got a taste of something great and then it was ripped from you too fast.

"Y/n! Woonhak!" Jaehyun calls out, smiling while looking at you two from the mirror. "Can you two grab water?" He asks sweetly.

Woonhak groans again, "Why do we have to do it?"

"Because you're the maknaes!" He teases with a giggle.

Despite Woonhak's complaining, he gets up along with you and you make your way to the hallway. Usually, there were a couple of vending machines in the hallway. You look out for the one you always go to.

"You go get them, I gotta use the bathroom." Woonhak suddenly announces, patting your shoulder while running in the opposite direction. Your face contorts as you fight the urge to yell at him.

As you continue down the hallway, you listen to each practice room as other groups blasted their music. It leaks through the walls, but not enough where you could make out anything important. You see the vending machine come into view.

Before you can reach your destination, a door to the practice room swings open before you. Laughter erupts from a small grouping of men as they exit.

You bow with respect. Jungwon, Heeseung, and Ni-ki emerge from the door. They bow back, except Ni-ki, who suddenly hides his face with his hood up and pretends he hasn't seen you yet.

"Sorry, I didn't greet you this morning!" Jungwon apologizes with an overly polite smile, "We had a meeting." He explains.

"Oh no, I- It's all good." Your voice shakes with anxiety. Talking to your seniors always makes you more nervous than it should. Jungwon wasn't even that much older than you, his status as 'leader' was more intimidating than his age.

"Ni-ki fell asleep in the meeting because of you." Heeseung teases. Ni-ki lifts his head to push his hyung quite forcefully, prompting a shove back from Heeseung. "Watch it or I'm sending that picture to the group chat." He threatens.

"You got a picture?" You freeze, your face turning red. Jungwon giggles at this, turning in the other direction to be polite. But you could still tell he was laughing at you.

"Yeah, You wanna see it?" Heeseung smiles, pulling out his phone from his pocket.

"No, No," Ni-ki lunges forward, "Delete that shit right now." He wraps his hand around Heeseung's phone as the two wrestle for the device.

Jungwon can't contain his laughter now, bent forward as the non-stop laughing begins to make his stomach hurt. This in turn makes you laugh.

Ni-ki pauses to look at you. Heeseung takes this moment to snatch his device back and push the younger off of him. Ni-ki listens to your laugh as it dies down.

You smile at him, and he smiles back with shaky lips before looking away. "Can we just go?" He asks.

"Bye Ni-ki." You wave, causing him to pause.

"B- Bye Y/n."

Heeseung and Jungwon laugh at his expense.

chapter fifteen - personal melatonin

warning: written part (1.1K), kinda angsty but not too much ni-ki just tired

You stand outside of Ni-ki's shared dorm, a plastic bag in your hand as you fidget with the other one. You have half the mind to knock politely, but you didn't want to wake up the rest of the apartment. You could text Ni-ki, but you already told him to leave the door unlocked. You internally punch yourself for overthinking. 

After some internal hyping up, you turn the door handle quietly. It was unlocked. You hold your breath as you take a peek inside.

Most of the lights were off, save for the dim hallway light. Anxiety fills you as you realize you've never been in Ni-ki's room. All the doors were closed... and you had no idea which one was his. You stand cluelessly in the hallway. Your grip on the bag tightens.

A door opens from the hallway slowly. You expect it to be Ni-ki, but it's someone shorter. 

Jay stumbles out of his room, running his fingers through his messy hair. His face contorts in confusion, standing up straight as he looks at you. He crosses his arms and leans against the door frame. 

"You okay, Y/n?" He asked, looking down at the plastic bag in your hand. 

You nod, "Where's Ni-ki's room?" 

"Uh..." He blinks, pointing down the hall, "Right there. I think he's asleep—" 

"I was just talking to him." You shrug, "Thank you." You bow, heading towards his room. 

"Hey," Jay stops you. You turn around to listen better. "Not too late, okay? We got a full schedule tomorrow." 

You nod politely, taking his words into account. He could've kicked you out, scolded you for being here so late, or got mad for waking him up. But he didn't. He knows Ni-ki is old enough to make his own decisions.

You open the bedroom door slowly, peeking your head in. You enter fully when you make eye contact with Ni-ki, who sits upright in his bed. He paused scrolling on his phone to smile at you. 

"I brought food." You hold up the plastic bag, and his face drops. 

"You didn't have to." 

"I'd feel rude if I showed up with only something for myself." You step into the room, closing the door. "Eat it or don't, save it for later." You place the bag on the small table in the middle of the room. Ni-ki stands up, rubbing his eyes and taking a seat on his small couch. 

You take the spot next to him, your legs brushing against each other. Ni-ki tells you about his day, telling you about practice and the rest of his full schedule. You reply back with your more lenient but still stressful schedule. With the whole comeback happening, you could really use a break like this. You loved your members, but being around the same six people every day could get tiring. 

Ni-ki eats about half of his food before putting his utensils down and leaning back on the couch. "You okay?" You question, mirroring his actions. 

"Tired." He rubs his eyes again.

You chuckle, reaching out to move the hair from his face. "I didn't have to come over, y'know?" 

"I didn't want to waste my free time." He leans into your touch, opening his eyes to look at you. You crumble completely under his gaze. He notices this as you take your hand away. He leans his head further into the couch and pouts, "Why'd you do that?" 

"Do what?" You respond. He sighs, his body sinking into the couch and closing his eyes. He ignored you.

"This couch is only comfortable when you're sitting..." He complains, stretching his back out as it cracks. 

“That’s because you’re a giant with a small couch.” You roll your eyes with a chuckle. 

“Don’t be mean.” He groans. His body falls against yours, leaning his weight on you. He bends to reach his head on your shoulder. It’s clear he’s not that comfortable. Despite that, he wants to be near you. 

The muffled “I missed you.” confirms this. Ni-ki thought this went unheard, not bothering to repeat himself out of embarrassment. You heard it though, looking away as heat rises to your cheeks. 

You clear your throat, “You should get some sleep.” 

“No, no—” He sits up in a panic, “I’m awake, I can turn on the playstation, or we can just sit and talk—”

“Relax!” His shoulders fall as you place a comforting but stern hand on them. He sighs again as you talk, “You just need rest, Ki. You look exhausted.” 

“I—” He pauses, “Yeah, I am.” He admits, leaning forward and resting his head in his hands. He rubs his temples with his fingers. 

He freezes when you place a hand on his back, circling it with your palm. 

“I’m tired too.” You sympathize, “I can’t get any sleep at home... Woonhak snores.” You half-joke. He does… loud. You can usually ignore it. 

Ni-ki laughs, relaxing once again under your touch, “I don’t snore... You could always stay here.” 

You remove your hand, caught off guard by the idea of a sleepover. Not just any sleepover, a sleepover proposed to you by your guy friend and hardcore crush. 

And Ni-ki lied, he does snore. 

Ni-ki was out almost instantly, like you were his personal melatonin. Like he had waited his whole life for you to just lay down next to him.

Despite your anxiety telling you to run far away from this situation, you decided to stay. Laying atop your friend's bed as stiff as a board, while he had squeezed himself closer to the wall to allow you more room. Only, it’s not easy sharing a bed made for one person with someone as tall as him. And someone who moves as much as him... 

Even though you were facing the other way, you could feel him shift behind you. His snoring you could deal with; it wasn’t as loud as Woonhaks... and you didn’t want to admit you found it kind of endearing coming from him. 

As you started drifting, a weight was placed against your waist. Your eyes shoot open in a panic as the soft weight turned to pressure around your body. You piece together your situation as your thoughts become less jumbled.

Ni-ki wraps his arms around your waist, pulling your back closer to his chest. He buries his head into your neck, inhaling sharply and then sighing against your skin. The sensation of his breath against your skin creates goosebumps as you shiver. Soon he lifts a leg over your body, completely trapping you in his grasp. 

Your heart races, feeling a bit nauseous over the situation. You had a feeling this would happen. You heard he used to cuddle people in his sleep from his hyungs, who used that fact to embarrass him. However, he claimed he no longer did that. Guess he lied about that too.

Your heart rate slows down after a few minutes of anxiety. Exhaustion overtakes any other emotion you have. You fall into sleep, completely overtaken by Ni-ki's warmth and comfort.

Ni-ki wraps his arms around your waist, pulling your back closer to his chest. He buries his head into your neck, inhaling sharply and then sighing against your skin. The sensation of his breath against your skin creates goosebumps as you shiver. Soon he lifts a leg over your body, completely trapping you in his grasp. 

Your heart races, feeling a bit nauseous over the situation. You had a feeling this would happen. You heard he used to cuddle people in his sleep from his hyungs, who used that fact to embarrass him. However, he claimed he no longer did that. Guess he lied about that too.

Your heart rate slows down after a few minutes of anxiety. Exhaustion overtakes any other emotion you have. You fall into sleep, completely overtaken by Ni-ki's warmth and comfort.

chapter fourteen - worn out, part one

warning: written part (625 words), slight angst, smallest suggestive joke from taesan at the end (nothing too bad)

Ni-ki lays with his head resting on his pillow. His hair, wet, sprawled across the soft fabric of his pillowcase. His body is heavy. Lack of sleep, a good meal, and a full schedule are catching up to him. His lower limbs ache as he raises his legs, bending to stretch them out. Pops and cracks emerge from his bones.

Closing his eyes, he lies there. Despite the exhaustion, sleep won't come easy to him. His muscles and bones ache with soreness from practice, stages, and whatever else he's had to do this week. He feels weak. He grabs the blanket's fabric under him in his fist, gripping it in frustration.

It's lonely here. Ni-ki enjoyed the silence whenever he had it, but not so much at night. He grew up cuddling his sisters to sleep, which turned to sleeping in a room with his hyungs. Then when they got their own rooms, they were too busy to be there. He was always sharing a hotel room with someone. He was never alone.

For the first time in a while, he's in a room by himself. He knows he should enjoy it but he can't.

And he's too proud to go to his hyungs for comfort.

Ni-ki's eyes shoot open when his phone vibrates under him. He reaches a hand under himself, searching for the small device. The notification was nothing important, but it reminded him of what Sunoo had said to him.

His finger hovers over the contact of his friend. He hasn't talked to Y/n in days, he wants to, but both of them have been too busy.

After a few minutes, he finally clicks the call button. Bringing the phone to his ear, he breathes out a sigh. It keeps ringing as Y/n doesn't pick up. The phone goes silent and embarrassment fills him. He puts the phone down.

Vibrations shake his hand. Y/n was calling him back almost right away. Relief fills him but he still shakes from anxiety.

"Hey!" Y/n greets with enthusiasm as Ni-ki picks up, "Sorry, I meant to pick up but I didn't get to my phone in time-"

"Hey, who is that?!" A younger voice yells from across the room. Shuffling comes from the other end as the voice gets closer. "Hiiiii Ni-ki~" Woonhak teases, his voice suddenly louder as he speaks into the mic.

"Shut the fuck up, Woonhak." Y/n drops the phone on the bed while attempting to push Woonhak away from the phone. "Get away!" Y/n sighs as his groupmate laughs to himself.

"You still there?" Ni-ki asks, chuckling.

"Yes! I'm sorry..." Y/n's voice muffles as he whines into a pillow, embarrassed because of his friend. "So, what's up?"

"Oh," Oh yeah, he has to say something... "Just..." He thought about lying, "I missed you." He couldn't lie.

He smacks himself internally as Y/n goes quiet. The phone mic doesn't pick it up, but Woonhak is covering his mouth as giggles threaten to escape. Y/n takes the phone off of speaker mode...

"R- Right..." Y/n's voice shakes, "Yeah, we haven't talked in a while."

Ni-ki hums, "How's your comeback prep going?"

"Good..." Y/n bites his thumbnail, "Hopefully. I just got back from practice... This is hypocritical of me, but shouldn't you be asleep? It's really late."

"Yeah..." Ni-ki subconsciously yawns, "Shouldn't you?"

"My hyung was getting food delivered."

"Ah..." Ni-ki nods, "I was going to ask if you wanted to come over since we are both up but you're right it's late and-"

"I'll be over." Y/n answers quickly, shocking Ni-ki with his urgency.

"Don't you have to eat?"

"Don't worry about that, leave your door unlocked. I'll sneak my way in."

Ni-ki doesn't bother to fight back his smile, "Okay. See you soon."

"See ya!" The phone hangs up.
