I sent a message to Sedgequeen about this post, and cited as many positive messages from reblogs and tags as I could collect. She and I already talk semi-regularly, so I felt it wouldn't be out of place.

She admitted she doesn't quite follow all the slang (esp. "FUCK EM UP", lol), but I think you all made her day. She showed the messages I collated to her wife. :)

I encourage all of you to say hello to new people. Scientists looooooove to talk about the things they study. Older scientists in particular are happy to see younger people enter their field of study*, or even science in general. When I first joined iNat I was terrified of all my seniors - but they all enrich my life. There's a lot to learn from others.

Also, people won't know that you appreciate them unless you tell them so. Sedgequeen is like the opposite of internet-savvy, she makes special exception to spend time on iNaturalist because she loves the community there. And we can only have a positive, caring community if we sustain it with positive and caring comments and actions.
