Do you believe in the afterlife?

In a sense. The most objective statement we can make is that your consciousness is some mercurial energy that will change state and diffuse into something else when you die. Your body is matter that will measurably change state. You are something that was once something else. I think there's some kind of metaphysical reality that humans can interact with which we don't have the framework to meaningfully understand, so speculating at what exactly it is can be nothing but conjecture. I think I understand ways it works. I sometimes see how it interacts with human consciousness, at the fringes. But I don't really believe that means there's any kind of afterlife we can understand, or necessarily any preservation of consciousness. Any human essence would fundamentally change state at death. Become something else. But I wouldn't bet on it, either. Best to focus on what we know. What we know is that we are energy flowing through matter, both of which never disappear, but change state.

very genuinely something that empowered fascism a lot was just totally ceding a lot of memetic communication to them with zero contest because it was For Bad People. Like im thinking about how many times I've talked about pattern recognition and people were like 'dude dont say that its a nazi meme'. like. youre just letting them define reality idiot. that whole 'circle game 'OK hand as a white power symbol' thing was fucking insanely stupid. Guys on 4chan started it deliberately to make people freak out about an extremely innocuous and common gesture. right as the circle game was having a memetic moment. nobody's willing to fight about anything and everyone is a wimp.
