BING - Respect My Pain
The following is an amazing colaboration that took place between Kenneth and another inmate at the Stiles Unit. Always standing on his gift as a spoken word artist Kenneth often indulges in Ciphers with others who have similar love for spoken word or Hip-Hop. Cipher (s) -- a cirlce-- is when fellow wordsmith gather around and fire off about different subjects and topics. Some months after one of these ciphers Kenneth was approached by a former artist from Houston, Tx (the Hip-Hop Capitol of Texas). The artist’s name was Bing and was an established underground artist in Houston before he too found himself incarcerated. Having been through some injustices Bing found his voice in the struggle and always liked what Kenneth had to offer in the Ciphers. Bing invited Kenneth to drop a verse on a mixtape that he was organizing in Houston. Though it was only for 20 seconds Kenneth seized the opportunity. Sadly, sometimes it takes pain and adversities to bring together great minds. The efforts act as a sign that these men have not given up on life nor making life better. “RESPECT MY PAIN” is an effort at saying- “I made a mistake, but I’m not a mistake and in the face of my errors I still seek to learn and be heard.” Hear these young men speak from their heart and share it with someone.
