the opal-rumped tanager is a brightly colored member of the thraupidae family found in humid forests of south america. both sexes share the bright blue plumage, with variations occurring throughout the bird’s range. previously considered a seperate species, the silvery-breasted tanager is now considered a subspecies of this bird. these tanagers feed on fruit and insects and tend to live in small groups.
