When Denis Villeneuve calls, Hollywood answers and answers quickly. Jason Momoa was not even a fan of the story but: «When someone like Denis calls you, you would be a madman to tell him no, even if it was for a minor or an extra role. He is one of the most talented directors of this era and I would have accepted the role of a closed box. I did not know the book or movie, I grew up with a single mother who broke her back to try to make ends meet and we didn’t have time or money to go to the cinema. And on TV I watched things like Conan, Gone with the Wind or A Streetcar named Desire. Then as an adult I saw some scenes, but I didn’t know it was the father of all science fiction films and that it had inspired sagas like the Star Wars. I still have not read the book and didn’t watch the original movie. I am completely entrusted to Denis and his extraordinary vision, knowing not to make mistakes. When you work with a director, screenwriter, that have such clear ideas you have to put yourself at his service, leaving your ego at home. He was an honor to work with him. It was the best experience on a set of my life. Phenomenal. And for Denis I would do anything ».
Real enthusiasm that of the two actors, not the artificial one for the promotion of a film which served to pay the bills but which warmed the hearts of those who interpreted it.“You have no idea - said Ferguson - how I feel. I love this movie madly. I would like to tell you everything, force you to watch it. As the cast was completed I was getting goosebumps, if you look at the names, you realise how incredible it is. And then the way of Denis’s work is truly extraordinary. He is like a master puppeteer who controls us puppets without the help of any wire. It is he who adapted to each of us, thus managing to have complete control. Just look at the my relationship with Timothée (the protagonist, of which Rebecca plays the mother) is perfectly structured, from every point of view. It was like playing in a large orchestra led by the greatest director, by the greatest teacher ».
«For Denis - continues Momoa - I would be an assistant who brings the coffees to the set to be able to see him work and I also talk to him. I didn’t even know he knew my name or knew who I was. When he told me he wanted it give me the role of Duncan Idaho, I replied: “but you’re really offering me a role in your movie? Stop, you don’t need to say anything, it’s not that you have to convince me: I am here, I accept.” For me it was like winning the lottery and i know that it won’t happen to me anymore and that now I can stop. It was a thing to be destined to, surreal, not nothing like this has ever happened to me and I haven't worked at this level. Of course, it’s an action film, adventure, but it is a true masterpiece, we are speaking of cinema, real cinema, cinema at maximum power. The dream of him as a kid and the maximum that I could aspire to as an actor ».
