Révélations [Edelgard and Jeritza]

The abandoned tunnel is as musty and grimy as Jeritza imagined it. It’s painfully obvious no one’s been down here in decades at the very least. He pushes a cobweb out of the way with the shaft of his torch, keeping his other hand on the hilt of his sheathed sword. The young man doubts they’ll be anything dangerous down here but this was connected to the Church so it was better to be safe than sorry. He listens carefully for Edelgard’s footfalls behind him, who knew how long this tunnel was and the last thing he wanted was for her to get lost somewhere in it.
The entrance was quite hidden but Jeritza had stumbled upon it late one night after returning from one of his hunts. Edelgard had been informed the following morning and the two of them decided scout it out. It was simple getting there, just disguising it as a one on one training session before stealing away from prying eyes. But Jeritza had not expected it to go this deep. They’d been walking for quite awhile and he debated turning back to Edelgard and asking if they should put the exploration off for later. It would be highly suspicious if they were both gone for a particularly long length of time.
The man knows she’d say no to that though. Edelgard seemed the type of person that once they had a goal in mind, they would not turn away from it. Luckily he would not have to ask her, as a large opening made itself known a few paces ahead of them.
“There’s an opening ahead.” Jeritza informs her.
Entering it, he holds the torch out for more light. It’s a particularly large room with odd markings on certain tiles of the floor. The man notes a few torch sconces littered about on a few of the walls and gets to work lighting a few, other hand never leaving the hilt of his sword.
