the teacher in 'We Shall Now Begin Ethics' is so oddly erotic
From Now On We Begin Ethics
Chap 41
Takayangi-sensei: "It was quite lonely growing up without a father."
😭
From Now on We Begin Ethics
How does a boy grow from this
to this
He's such a wounded soul i love him so much
Whumptober day 11
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
It's more ethics! Except this time it is not class but simply Takayangi going through it. He has a failed marriage in canon so of course I had to figure out how that ended.
Day 11: Seeing Double | Convenience Store
Summary:
As he watched her go, he wasn’t sure whether he was seeing his wife or his mother. He was seeing both walking away from him.
Why does everyone doubt me like so?
I love it so much
I don't even do outlines anymore, but this still happens. Planning means nothing; never has.
From Now On We Begin Ethics Chapter 47, Prayer
Very rough translation (feel free to provide corrections if needed):
Professor (P): "Looks like things didn't work out between you and Kikukawa."
*note: Kikukawa was his college girlfriend whom he apparently married and divorced
Takayanagi (T): "..."
P: "I heard it from Kawashima."
*Kawashima is the gestalt therapist who's a good friend of Takayanagi and also a former student of the professor
P: "Was there cheating?"
T: "Maybe there was cheating."
P: "Maybe."
P: "My, my... I guess that's it."
T: "Yeah."
T: "I had a feeling we weren't compatible from the start."
😭😭😭
so he did marry his college girlfriend and got divorced. the fact that the professor only knew about it in the present time could only mean two things:
He hasn't seen the professor in a long, long time since Takayanagi became a teacher (we only see the professor in flashbacks from the college and post-college days) and/or;
His divorce with Kikukawa, his college girlfriend, was fairly recent. Probably why he had to turn down Aizawa's confession because he was still trying to heal.
So, what actually happened between him and his ex-wife? Who knows?
in an older chapter he did talk about how he "truly loved her" and then in a much later chapter, he said he has never been really been in love. it must have been really painful for him to say no to romance and dating and marriage altogether like come on this is his backstory we are talking about and wdym we have to fill in the gaps
Protect this laughter at all costs
The author is really driving it deep in our brains that takayanagi is so gorgeous it should hurt
old and young takayanagi
from now on we shall begin ethics
