Citizen Journalism
Based on a presentation from the wondrous Meggy Lacson, and Yuni Aniceto, I can confidently say that citizen journalism, is an amazing tool that humanity has come up with. Rather than relying on news anchors, and CNN for our daily dose of info, we can scroll through our social platforms and find some astonishing things. Videos caught by bystanders and screenshots or images, that show us what is going on in the world. Without this, we wouldn’t be half as informed as we are about current events in this day and age. The news will not put out overly violent footage, or controversial information, to avoid any chaos. What they refuse to understand is that sometimes people need to see these things, to achieve a better understanding of what humanity is doing today. A blind population will not know where to go in terms of progress, the more knowledge we are given, the better we can alter ourselves, to become better people.
Digital Divide
It’s as simple as this, people should have the right to avail of any privileges another person would, it’s basic equality. Digital divides, are gaps between different demographics and regions; some of these regions have the privilege to access certain things, while the others can’t.
According to an article by Margaret Rouse
The reality of a separate-access marketplace is problematic because of the rise of services such as video on demand, video conferencing and virtual classrooms, which require access to high-speed, high-quality connections that those on the less-served side of the digital divide cannot access and/or afford. And while adoption of smartphones is growing, even among lower-income and minority groups, the rising costs of data plans and the difficulty of performing tasks and transactions on smartphones continue to inhibit the closing of the gap.
According to recent studies and reports, the digital divide is still very much a reality today. A June 2013 U.S. White House broadband report, for example, showed that only 71% of American homes have adopted broadband, a figure lower than in other countries with comparable gross domestic product. Proponents for closing the digital divide include those who argue it would improve literacy, democracy, social mobility, economic equality, and economic growth. https://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/digital-divide
People need to start being more inclusive of others, and we need to avoid making our useful platforms for education and utility, exclusive to the majority of the population.
Weight Loss Journey Update*
Well, would you look at that, 2-3 weeks of running, swimming, and weight training really does pay off, dropped a whopping 13 pounds and I must say I feel pretty great, there was a moment about 5 days ago where I went back up 2 pounds because that's what a big mac and no exercise will do to your body. The key really is consistency and that, in fact, is the hardest part about weight loss, these past few weeks were filled with tempting treats that I was forced to refuse, well not forced to but I made sure not to take any because giving into temptation won't get you anywhere, hard work will.

Copyright/Plagiarism
Do I have a story for you, it was grade eight in my school wherein we had to do term papers for our integration subject. I was shocked to hear from our teacher that there was a paper that was plagiarized. I didn’t know what it meant at first, but I figured it out eventually. Plagiarism by dictionary definition means the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. Basically saying that your work was original when in fact you took it from someone else if anything it should be considered a type of theft. You stole someone else hard work and said it was your own, what type of person does that. Not only is it theft, but it's also lying too, its bunch of sins, put in one, it’s a 2 in 1 and everyone knows that 2 in 1′s are never a good sign, in shampoo, coffee, or this. Copyright is a different story, the dictionary defines it as the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same. In this case, it is the right for someone to allow another person to use their original work in their own project. If you have permission to use the other persons work in your project, then it is not plagiarism, but taking it without any form of consent is a crime. People need to be more aware of this to refrain from any lawsuits, and or problems with the originator.

Cyber Bullying
It's like Bullying but worse, Its CYYYYBER BULLYYIIINGGGG!!! Yes! Society had found a way to mess everything up once again. Nowadays with the the recent advancement into technology and the development of Social Media, people have found a way to turn what could honestly be an amazing advancement, into a tool for destruction, and negativity. People have begun to use social media and other platforms that allow connectivity between users as a means of bullying, yes you heard me right, BULLYING. I personally haven’t been affected by this in terms of online public humiliation, but I have had some experience in participating in some PM feuds. From that experience, or rather those experiences, I can safely and confidently conclude that it isn't fun. It is a horrible experience to have and it leaves you with so much guilt and regret afterwards. Not only is it cowardly to state your rude comments and insults behind a screen, it is disrespectful, dishonourable, and unnecessary. Bullying in general is stupid, in my opinion at least. Why degrade another person to satisfy the needs of your personal ego, it does not make sense to me. Yes if you know me in person, you may scream the word HYPOCRITE at this blog post, but I don’t bully, sure I may retaliate when provoked but that's it. A lot of people will say that I am rude, or well hard to be friends with but its true, ask many of my close friends, also known as the people that survived my personality. Let me give and example as to when my inner demons come out to torment poor souls, kidding....not really. When I see someone that does not try in school for example, and complains about work, and afterwards begins to bash the school for not passing him or her. I come in and completely destroy the person, yes it sounds dramatic, but this is one of my biggest pet-peeves. Probably because of my dark past as a horrible student, it irritates me when people don’t try and complain about the result they get afterwards. I get mad so that they realise how stupid their situation is, in hopes that they change and actually start putting effort. I was able to change because I realized how dumb it was for me to complain about my scores when they were the scores that I deserved, so I chose to change that and here I am 3 years later with lines of 9′s after literally passing the year with three points above the passing score. Sorry this turned into a rant, this was supposed to be a scientific article on cyber bullying, it clearly did not work, but i hope you enjoyed it either way.

Computer Addiction
Let’s get to the point, we love gadgets, electronics, anything with screens that glow, and buttons to push, we love it all, some of us a little too much. For some of us opening up our laptops is the first thing we do, for some, using computers is the only reason they have to get up in the morning, and that to me is completely insane. For a lot of us, computers are our lives, though they may have taken the lives of many. Yes, computers can kill people, and not by creeping up behind them at night and stabbing them or anything, simply by us using them too much. There are multiple cases of people suffering from cardiac arrest, and heart failure due to sitting down and using their computers too long, this scenario is more often occurring among gamers, people have spent 3 to 4 days straight on their computers, completely ignoring their need for food, drink, even sunlight. Their addiction to this device led them to their deaths, and it can happen to anyone. Addiction, in general, is a horrible thing to have unless you're addicted to like exercise or something. People need to learn self-control, we need to work on being more prudent and responsible with how we use these devices or technology in general. We all know that too much of anything is bad, this applies to technology as well.

Nose Dive review
Black Mirror’s third season opened up with quite an interesting episode. The episode is entitled nose dive starring Bryce Dallas Howard, who I thought was an amazing fit for the main character. She played a woman who was determined to increase her social credit score and work her way up the social rankings. Having found a perfect opportunity to do this, things don't end up going her way and everything starts to go downhill. She begins to constantly lose social points and her place in society begins to disappear. She eventually ends up in jail for crashing a wedding and completely lets go of herself. The entire episode exhibits a dystopian world, that relies on a social credit system to determine your rank in society. Whether your social credit score is high or low will determine the things you are entitled to in life and things you aren’t qualified for. In the episode, her main reason for wanting to increase her credit score is to be able to apply for a 20% discount on a new house, but to do so she had to reach a 4.5 credit score. In this dystopian universe, people would use their phones to rate one another based on their interactions with that person. People may also rate one another based on what they post on their social media. Image plays a huge role, therefore everyone would have to put on a “mask” and constantly act amazing. They would always be in good moods, and would always be smiling and greeting one another, in hopes to get good ratings. I think that a system like this could easily become problematic, and would result in a lot of dysfunction and chaos. Though logically it would make sense to use this system as a means of lowering overpopulation risks, and overall costs; but depriving someone of their rights would be a terrible way for the world to work, it would abolish any concept of equality and would segregate almost everyone immediately. What type of society/community would that be, people would be considered better than others based on what coffee they drank this morning or the snacks they make for themselves. This is where Technological Determination comes into play, it shows us how technology is beginning to control the way we conduct ourselves and live our lives. It isn’t fair, and who would want to be a part of a society that runs on judgemental comments and social image.. oh wait that's a thing already.

Media in my LYF
Similar to my article below on Media in Society, I'm going to talk about my personal experience with Media. In the same way, Media has become a big part of society, it has also become a part of my daily life. A lot of us wake up to notifications from our smartphones, that talk about who just followed you, or who sent you a message. Our smartphones and social media accounts keep us informed about everything that is going on. I personally use social media a lot, based on my phones system reports, I use my phone at least 1hr and 53mins a day. In the last week, I used 4hrs of screen time for Social Networking, 5hrs for Entertainment, and 2hrs for productivity. I regular parent would look at these statistics and be extremely disappointed but this is actually nothing compared to some of the cases shown online, with one of the highest rates reaching 27 hours in a week. My point is that people love to stay informed about the things going in other people lives and in the world in general, smartphones and social media platforms make doing that extremely easy, which is why a lot of us spend hours on our phones. Stated in the photo below I use my phone a lot, mainly to watch Netflix or YouTube videos, and to go on Social Media. As a student and well teenager, my life has reached a point wherein I need to have internet for at least 2 hours or more a day, to constantly keep informed with things like school work, updates, news, and a whole lot more. A lot of people may think that this lifestyle is unhealthy and I should go outside or read a book. The thing is I do all of that while still having to use my phone; when I jog I always check and measure how many miles I do, and how many calories I may have burned. In terms of books, there are some that I read for leisure, while others are for school work. I use Social Media to discuss some of the theories with friends and schoolmates, or sometimes I check online for similar theories I may have on the topic. In short Media, specifically Social Media plays a huge part in all of our lives.

MOOOOOD!!!
Media in Society
Media has become a huge part of how society functions and continues to develop. Though this estimation may not be accurate, I am sure that at least 75% of people use media to get through their day. Social Media in itself has transformed into a whole other being, calling it media would be belittling what it actually is. The word Social in itself comes from the word Society, which even traces back to the Latin word Societas. The dictionary definition of the word Society is, the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community. Based on this definition one could say that Social Media allows Society to function and develop in an ordered manner, everyone is able to communicate and in a sense live together on Social Media platforms. When I think about it, I would say that Social Media could definitely be one of man’s greatest achievements. Now you’re probably wondering why am I just talking about Social Media, what about all the other platforms of Media, like Newspapers, Books, and Magazines. I chose to talk about Social Media because unlike Newspapers, Books, and Magazines, Social Media is a whole world in itself. In my opinion, Written Publications are primarily one-sided, when we read publications like newspapers all we are really doing is gathering information for ourselves, and data on what’s going on around the world or in our country which in my opinion is a little limiting. In Social Media platforms we are given more leeway in terms of gathering information, we can even give our own opinions on the matter that is stated. Sure you can always yell your opinions at the newspaper, or magazine your reading, but that would be crazy, and useless. Going back to the dictionary definition I stated earlier, the aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community. Social Media is an entire community in itself, which makes it that much better than the newspaper, or magazines. Then again everything on this earth is flawed, Social Media may be this great invention, but with its pro’s it also has its con’s.
Pro’s:
Social Media is capable of keeping everyone informed on News, whatever type of news it may be, whether it be what celebrities are doing nowadays, or what is currently going on in our country. It is a hub of information that is invested in keeping everyone in its community informed about everything going on in the world, or in the lives of other people. It is also an outlet for people to express their opinions and emotions on certain topics with ease. Anyone can easily start ranting about any topic on a Facebook post.
Con’s:
“With great power, comes great responsibility.” -Uncle Ben...Rip
This quote is a clear representation of what Social Media is and how it's doing right now. In Social Media, we have all this power to share information with the world and everyone around us, but no one seems to be using it in the right way, I'm sure almost 90% of Facebook users have experienced a meme or two on serious topics in their feed, and don’t get me started on this whole topic of fake news, I have already ranted about that in a post below this one. My point is Social Media has amazing potential to be a great system for society but is held back by people’s lack of responsibility, prudence, consideration, and much more.
