Inside No 9 - A Fanart Tribute ~

(55 digital painting studies based on the 55 episodes of the show!)

I really wanted this series to represent both the drama and humour of the show whilst also paying homage to the amazing aesthetic quality of each episode, so I really hope I achieved that!

(I framed them like this so they'd look like little film cells all joined together btw!)

Also thank you to everyone who suggested screenshots (I'm sorry if I didn't pick yours, it was probably because it would have been too hard for me to draw lol, but I did really appreciate all the help regardless!)

I think I am perpetually doomed to only get really into things when they're about to end or have already ended pfft, so I hope this in some way makes up for me being sorta late to the party!

Doing this series really did make me appreciate so much more about every episode, all the fabulous little details in every shot, you can really see all the effort and love that Reece & Steve (& everyone behind the scenes too) put into it which is just so lovely!!

Anyway I love this show a lot (as you can probably tell lol) and I had SO much fun painting these (even if they did take a long time to finish pfft)! <3

i’ve seen the idea of “miles tries to save spot but spot is just too far gone and gets himself killed” passed around as a theory for the spots ending and while i was kinda on board at first i feel like thats an incredibly nihilistic ending and im not sure if that really fits the tone or message of spiderverse at all?

that concept feels like something that could fit his character but i think it would damage the message of the movies overall. the more i think about that the more flawed it becomes. “this guy was abandoned, couldnt get a job or rebuild his life, but hes just too far gone and theres nothing we can do about it because hes too stubborn” would be a..confusing idea to convey? i feel like itd ultimately be the easiest and most generic path they could go down with him.

im not trying to absolve spot of any accountability for his wrongdoing, hes still a bad guy, i just think “hes making the decision to destroy himself and we can’t do anything about it because that’s his choice” just doesn’t make a lot of sense with the themes the franchise has presented already. it almost feels lazy, i’ve seen the concept of a damaged person being too far gone done a million times already so i just dont find it very interesting.

i don’t want his ending to be a redemption and then theyre bffs by any means, i just think that a lot of ideas for his death would be a disservice to the character. the more i think about all the ways he could die none of them really make sense for his arc + having him die after like a day of being a villain would make him an underwhelming nemesis and LITERALLY a villain of the week
