I think being so busy the last few months has seriously rewired my brain. Asking myself "What do I actually care about anymore?" and I can say, definitively, that making things that appeal to the Dunning-Kruger-addled masses, fussing over what might do well or not do well on social media, isn't one of them. I care about preserving my health, my family's health and safety, finding a non-exploitative way to make a fuckton of money so my family never has to fall on hard times, and making weird pretentious art like two of my colleagues might appreciate occasionally. How I'm going to reconcile the last two is a mystery, but it's refreshing having priorities to start.

#2025 was also a big year for learning that it's actually infinitely nicer staying home #it's preferable to feel fomo from the comfort of my own bed than to go out on some tenuous philosophy for a migraine and sensory hell

You know, I'm sure romance and shipping and all that are going nowhere in the long run, but I've been getting this vague (singular, statistically insignificant) impression lately that our culture is, in this moment, collectively fatigued by the singleminded focus on and importance placed on romantic love. That we're craving more stories that focus on platonic love – of community, of familial love, and friendship. That's it. End of thought.

Ah, I honestly don't think about this stuff at all, haha.

Hmmmm, Spader's maybe the easiest. There was a line cut about his vegetarianism (Blaine justifying why Spader wouldn't tear meat from bones) so that stuck with me. I think he probably eats overall pretty healthily, but has a real sweet tooth.

Larry looks like a bao. He looks like he eats nothing but shumai, xiaolongbao, daifuku and jian dui/goma dango (my favorite). Do they have any of this in Ooo? They have boba so at least Taiwan's legacy survived.

Cadebra seems like she'd have food anxiety, like my cat. She's grateful for literally anything, but she always eats and drinks like it's the last meal of her life.

Blaine was probably copying Spader's habits. They also strike me as unusually health-conscious for a kid. Like the greasiest they'd go is japchae.

I don't want to think too hard about what a peppermint candy eats. He's powered by the sun as far as I'm concerned.

Jk, he just wasn't included in the outline. While working on Wizard City, I assumed the joke was that Larry was way too young and wasn't actually supposed to be there. That he was only admitted because the teachers loved Spader so much, and Larry got to tag along as his pet baby cousin. Maybe he got to stick around for a while, maybe he dropped out/got pulled out of school, or maybe he's still there at WizArts but taking courses for the younger wizards.

I love SU and I love Peridot, so of course, as a gem analogue for the aro and ace experience, she is important to me. However, I don't think I'll ever get over how special it was to have Todd, a real human man in the context of the BoJack Horseman world, to come out explicitly as asexual. Like that would have been crazy enough progress as it was, but the crew then fully delved into and explored this part of Todd, treated the subject with such respect and care and research – all that and it was fun and didn't sterilize the tone of the show. Do we need more confirmed aspec characters besides aliens (where the rep is still important but can be clouded by the plausible deniability of allegory) and white men? Yes, but what the BoJack crew were able to accomplish for aces and aros with one character was staggering for me and it still gets me a little emotional every time I remember it unfolding.

didn't do a whole lot of exploration for cadebra and blaine aside from the drawing you've seen before but thought i'd share this.

only direction in the outline was "cadebra is way taller than pep now" and "blaine has a brand new kpop hairstyle". and i was like, okay but blaine already HAD the quintessential kpop curtains. tried whatever this is. literally nothing. And their legs are too long. tried the waistcoat on cadebra but i think the balance kinda sucks.

For Ep 7- The Wolves Who Wandered during the salon sequence, I wanted to include a Fionnaworld Spader somewhere, even though her existence would be implausible for a number of reasons. I originally had Ashley working the front desk too but the camera got reworked in such a way that other incidentals didn't need to be animated in the end.
