“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
— Roald Dahl
Liccy Dahl, the widow of famed children’s author Roald Dahl was recently interviewed on BBC Radio 4 and to everyone’s surprise revealed a big changing factor that happened before the release of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Dahl had originally written Charlie as an African-American child, however, Dahl’s agent urged him to change the story to appeal to a wider audience. Not only is this saddening and utterly despicable but, how incredible would it have been if Dahl was able to keep his original Charlie.
Matilda! :) My childhood hero.
It’s going to be the 30th anniversary of Matilda in October 2018 and Quentin Blake imagining Matilda today as the Chief Executive of the British Library, an astrophysicist, and (not shown here) a world traveller is <3
Roald Dahl & Ernest Hemingway
The happiest part of the story is that Matilda and Miss Honey each got what they’d always wanted - a loving family.
