bio.
Amelia Roberts was born on the side of the road in a rundown truck to two people who were not ready to be parents again. Second born and only girl, she was a spitfire from the beginning. She had to be in order to survive in her household. Her father, a drunk narcissistic asshole always brought his friends around which caused a lot of unnecessary trauma to the young girl. Her mouth was a defense mechanism that sparred her and got her into more trouble than it did help her. Her mother, a wine drinker, always told her that she wished she was never born. Life was not all rainbow and sunshine in the Weir household.
Her parents fought constantly and never did they fight in private. Amelia was always around when it happened and that was what she thought love was supposed to be like. Her older brother, by a few years, would often bring home a plethora of girls - and the occasional guy, but don’t tell their father - and he would act like a spitting image of their father. She loved her brother but she hated that he took after their parents. She was glad when her mother seemingly left them when Amelia was eight. At least she didn’t have to hear them fighting any longer.
As Amelia got older, she started running the streets and getting into trouble especially with the boy next door, Liam Granger. They both came from pretty tough backgrounds and they found solace within one another. With rooms facing each other, they came up with their own secret language when they needed the other one. Whether it to be going out of their homes in the middle of the night or if one needed to get away from their home; they were there for each other through it all. They had a very toxic relationship from the beginning but they were also the product of their own environment. They fought but they loved even harder.
When they got into high school, they dated off and on. They couldn’t decide whether they wanted or be together or not so they constantly got together to then break up. It wasn’t until their junior year where things started to get serious. There were talks of leaving this small town and as soon as graduation came, Amelia wanted to be gone. She wanted Liam to go with her and when he said no and told her to go, she did just that. He broke her heart but she was one to spite someone so she moved all the way to the Massachusetts where she got into Harvard law school. Even though she came from a tough background, she worked her ass off in school so she could make something for herself.
Law school was hard but she persevered and eventually got her Juris Degree. Then came the bar exam which she passed in the first go round. Eventually, she found herself working for Harding Mazzotti LLP as a first time lawyer. The work was rough and some days she didn’t think she could do it but then she thought about her home life and that she was determined to be something great. She didn’t get out of Covington just to become nothing.
Over the next few years, she continued her work at the firm and didn’t do much of anything afterwards. She stayed to herself and went on random dates but she was more focused on her work than anything. While her friends got married and had babies, she became the fun aunt. Her idea of marriage and love had been tainted from the start and she wasn’t about to let it get in her way again. Instead, she slept around but kept her head under lock and key.
On the eve of her 30th birthday, she got a call from a friend in Covington that told her that her brother had been arrested on some drug charges and they needed her. Even though she wasn’t ready to go home, she had to for him. She could only give legal advice but nothing more than that. After his bail was paid, she decided to stick around until she could find a lawyer to get his charges cleared. Thankfully, she found a good lawyer and his charges were dropped due to the cops not reading him his Miranda Rights and she was going to leave to go back home when he asked her to stay.
Reluctantly, she said yes and had movers pack up her apartment and deliver her stuff to a storage unit. She moved back home with her dad and brother where she tried so hard to escape from but your roots will always drag you down to the ground. Life felt like it had frozen in Covington and while she may have gotten out, nothing about the town had changed. Part of her knew that she didn’t belong in this town anymore but she quickly fell back into her old ways.
It was a couple weeks that she had been in town when she signed to be a member of the Georgia bar association. She got sworn in by the Superior Court and soon became a practicing lawyer. Soon, she got a job working at Perry Mason law firm and fit right in as one of their defense attorneys. It wasn’t an easy road due to her reputation in the town and who her family was but they gave her a chance and that was all that she needed to begin again.
While her being in town is bringing back all of her insecurities and memories, she feels more at home than she did in Massachusetts. It wasn’t an easy transition and it’s something that she still has to deal with everyday. She is trying to hard to be better than where she came from but she’s having a hard time fighting the demons that threatened to keep her there so many years ago.
