and does vera feel bad? unlike most women, definitely. "hey, it's not you, it's me if that makes you feel any better," not a cop-out at all, seriously, it's not. "i'm just kind of hopelessly in love with someone, and she just moved into the building, but if i wasn't? i'd put you on the roster." that's not even a lie either. she grins, a little brighter. "lives on your floor, actually, so hey, if you ever wanna help her forgive me? get me a second chance? talk to yourself about me in the hall, really hype me up." they're roommates, idiot. if only she knew. five bucks slides over to his side of the table, and she sighs. "you really save a dog?"
pauses, hand half reached out to grab the five. “oh my god—wait, wait, wait... she lives on my floor? and you obviously want my elite, world-known, and absolutely unethical wingman services? lemme get this straight, this is like, a getting back with someone situation, right? babe, i got you. i’ll hype you up so hard. i’ll be in the hallway shouting about how kind, talented, and misunderstood you are. i’ll knock on her door and be like, ‘hey, quick q, are you aware there’s a very hot woman two floors who regrets everything she’s done and can also fix your sink?’. i promise you, she’ll be begging to get back together by tuesday. swear on my life. swear on my nineteen million followers on tiktok.” grins sheepishly, deep dimples making another appearance as the ‘hero’ part of his act begins to crumble. “okay, look, real talk now that my sex campaign is officially over and i’ve come to terms with being the lovable bestie who never gets the girl... saved was a stretch. yeah, the dog was definitely... near a car. but was technically on a leash, held by a woman who looked like she does crossfit as a hobby.” pauses. “and the oncoming traffic was a parked prius. but, i was there. that counts for something. i’m a hero, more or less, because i totally would’ve saved him if he was in danger. and, danger is always near, right? don’t take this away from me, vera. i might need this story to get the next girl who thinks my nonsense is cute.”
› STATUS : closed. ( @rockeurs ) › LOCATION : apt 802 during the blizzard › FEATURING : teagan & josie.
( ↻ ) “ i think i may have gone overboard. ” teagan finishes unpacking the last of the groceries she picked up on the way back to the apartment. “ in my defense, if we’re going to be stuck in the building all weekend then we may as well stay stocked up. plus, it’s soup weather. who can say no to budae jjigae and mandu ? ”
leans her weight against the edge of the marble-topped island, bare feet cold against the kitchen tile. arms cross loosely over her chest, watching the movement, tracing the line of teagan’s shoulders with her gaze. (oh, what a dangerous thing it is to be locked away in a luxury building with someone who makes her pulse hum like a live wire). extends her hand out, the tips of her fingers just barely brushing against teagan’s wrist as she steals the pack of tofu from her grasp. “you definitely went overboard,” mumbles, the pitch of her voice low and teasing as she steps closer by the barest inch. “but i think you just knew i was looking for an excuse to stay here all night.” pulls her hand back and rolls her sleeve, backing away to wash her hands in the sink. “listen, i’m not letting you prep all this by yourself. tell me what to chop first.”
dylan laughs good-naturedly at josette’s words, shakes their head. “ look, you don’t have to promise me anything. honestly ? you wouldn’t be the first one to cry if you do, so don’t worry about it, ” she reassures with slight tenderness in her voice. “ what i can promise you, though, is going easy on you. i’m used to making first tattoos, and i know it can be jarring, so you can trust me, trust me. what do you say ? ” to say they were excited at the prospect of doing another first tattoo would be an understatement, however, they managed to keep it under control. they didn’t want to scare josette off, much less if she still felt unsure about it.
josie fidgets, shifting her weight from foot to foot. it’s a tiny, anxious little action. just to stop the nervous energy from settling too deep into her. “okay, look… if you really go easy on me, i might just get through this without needing a clonazepam. here is my vision for my first…” a pause as she extends her phone to the other, showing the image of a delicate, sketch-style bow. it’s soft; the lines are light and the drawing look loose and flowy, as if a silk ribbon had been caught in a breeze. “do you think it’ll look okay? i want it here…” continues, fingertips grazing the soft skin along her tricep. “but, like… really fine. super, super delicate. i trust you, i do. but can you promise me one more thing? that you’ll finish the bow no matter what? even if i cry, beg you to stop, or… or faint. just finish it. i really don’t want it to look like a worm.”
"i can climb all the ladders, you're right," vera nods, humming at the thought as she sips her cold chai, ice making it more watery than she'd like. "but, that'll probably be for my wife one day and not for you, sorry, dude." and yet, she's still smirking at him, never one to let him down easy, even though he's a little full of himself and although she teeters on the in the closet side of bisexual still? sometimes the attention is nice. a laugh actually escapes, unable to help it as he gestures around, more excited than turned on when it came to whatever weird porno scenario he'd come up with in his head. "not happening," she giggles, a real laugh because at least he has his humor. "you know what i do have though? i've got five bucks for you to get a drink with if you agree to sit down and stop trying to come onto me."
blinks, grin faltering for half a second before snapping back into place like he just rebooted. “oh—okay, wait, that’s hot though. but like, not in a weird way. not in a male gaze way. in a respectful way. spiritually. feminist-ly.” hands fly up in frantic defense, (he’s really trying to ctrl + z the last fifteen seconds of his life). “you climbing ladders for your future wife? that’s powerful. so it’s hot. confident. competent. you know? i’m an ally. you can believe me when i say i listen to girl in red unironically.” squints at her, head tilting slightly, like he’s considering how much acknowledging rejection hurt and whether it’s visible on his face. “and you’re paying me to stop flirting? that’s insane. he gets rejected and receives financial compensation. this is how pretty men should be treated always.” inhales deeply, then lets himself collapse dramatically into the nearest seat. “fine. deal.”
( ↻ ) lips curl up into its usual polite smile when it comes to romeo. she prepares herself for another lengthy albeit one sided conversation that tends to happen around the other. and it’s not that emiko wants to be rude. she can never find a good time to politely excuse herself from any conversation with romeo so here she is. and at this point, it’s just too late to turn back now out. “ i don’t know if i’d go as far as to say telepathy, ” she comments, chuckling lightly. “ coincidence is a little more fitting. ” she brings her cup to her lips to take a lengthy sip as romeo continues to babble. “ do you really know a guy who can get a pony here by noon ? ” brows are partially raised in skepticism. “ but i really don’t need anything, ” she reassures him. “ it was just an extra drink the barista gave me. ”
“no, no—don’t you gaslight me.” eyes narrow playfully. “i’ve seen stranger things. this is how it starts. first it’s coincidence, then you’re shaving your head and i’m riding a bike for you and it’s us against the government. we are so giving mileven right now. be honest. when i text you, you feel it before you see it, right?” grin widens, following her lead toward the seating area without being invited. (he’s a human shadow, specifically one that talks at 1.5x speed). “i bet it’s why you take so long to reply sometimes. you’re processing it, our connection. i respect it.” presses the cup to his lips, waving his free hand dismissively at her question. “and yes, obviously i know a guy. several guys, actually. one of them definitely owns a pony. like, statistically—but since you don’t need it? guess i’ll just repay you by being incredibly attractive in your general vicinity. i’ll even allow one complimentary kiss. one. unless you want more kisses. which is valid. and encouraged, actually.”
a sigh, annoyance falling from her lips but she does as he asks, too nice not to. case is clicked shut, anne rule and true crime would have to wait as her book shuts as well. her only day off, and she is irritated until he speaks, god, she's going to snort. "i heard most of it," the woman assures, hot chai picked up from the table. "but, i hate to break it to you, i was raised by a single dad, i've been changing lightbulbs and opening jars with the skill of a man all by myself for thirteen years." brow raises, smirk matching his grin. "good try, but i'm not fucking you."
“oh c’mon, i was trying to be a traditional provider for like, five seconds, and you just… you just kill the dream?” jaw drops, hand dragging dramatically down his face. “you know what? it’s fine! it’s actually better. it’s the representation we need. i’m a feminist, you know? i’m progressive. i’m modern. i love a woman who can handle a ladder while i just sit here, look pretty and hold her chai. we’re overthrowing the patriarchy one jar at a time and i am just the trophy husband for the job.” gestures wildly now, chains clinking against his oversized hoodie. “also, i’m choosing to ignore all that…” waves a hand vaguely at the “not fucking you” part, grin unshaken, because he’s absolutely not processing that. (she doesn’t mean it anyway. obviously. he is romeo!). “negativity—because you actually closed the book. that’s a win. in my head, we’re basically married and you’re about to fix my leaky faucet in like, a sports bra and cargo pants, telling me ‘shut up, babygirl, i’ve got this’ while i just… stand there holding a screwdriver i don't know how to use.”

airpod is slipped out, eyes glancing up from her book. "what'd you say? sorry, couldn't hear you."
“i—what do you mean what do i say…” blinks at her, frozen mid-gesture, hand still suspended in the air. “vera, i am in the middle of telling you about how i heroically saved a pomeranian from spriting into oncoming traffic. like, that’s husband behavior. if i can save a dog, think about all the other masculine feats i’m capable of. think about all the lighbulbs i could switch, the jars i can open… that’s more than enough reason for you to sleep with me, i think, personally.” grin twitches at the corner of his mouth, dimples flashing. “fiiiiiine, know what? i’m a benevolent king. i’ll start over. put down the other airpod.”

( ↻ ) “ getting yourself into any trouble lately ? or has the snow temporarily put a stop to all that, ” freya lightly jests. she slides the mug of coffee over to her cousin, mirth dancing in her eyes. “ i shouldn’t complain though, you and a few other troublemakers are keeping me in business. i bill you all by the hour. ”
“nahhh, been sorta domestic lately. just working out, taking warm baths, playing sudoku. even thought about knitting myself a sweater. thinkin’ maybe in beige.” brow lifts, blue eyes narrowing slightly, like he’s waiting for that little twitch at the corner of her mouth. “that invoice lookin’ real slim this month, though, isn’t it? bet you’re cranky ‘cause ‘m actually behaving this time around, and it’s killing your billable hours. no fights, no arrests, no 3 am ‘ace, what did you do now?’ calls. you gotta be bored out of your mind.” teases, taking a slow sip of his mug, watching her over the rim. “and what’s with overcharging your own family? ‘m starting to think you add an extra zero every time my name comes up. you know the ‘st. clair’ name don’t come with a trust fund on my end, right?”
WHO; vera + your muse !!
WHERE; the residents lounge !
PUT IN EFFORT, VERA. and she had, she’d decorated the store, she’d put up the signs, her stupid temporary heart shaped tattoos dawned her face her entire shift until someone had come in to release her from the nightmare that was valentine’s day, and the first place she’d gone was the lounge. a slice of chocolate cake is stolen from the baked goods cart and she flops down in a seat, outfit still present as she takes a heavy bite. “tell me you hate this hell day as much as me.”
exhales a short, dry breath that’s not quite a laugh, blue eyes tracking the ridiculous little heart tattoos on her face with a look that’s half-pity and half-amusement. “the hell is on your face, v? you let a toddler use you as a coloring book or what?” and leans in, two fingers expertly pinching a corner of the moist chocolate cake before she can even process the movement. pops the stolen bit into his mouth, shrugs, then licks the chocolate frosting from his thumb. “and yeah. ‘s garbage. whole city’s smells like cheap roses and desperation. makes me wanna stay inside ‘til march.”
location: the elevator status: open to anyone !
"come on," lorenzo essentially whined as he repeatedly jammed his finger into the up bottom, casting a brief glance at the empty lobby. a rarity, he'd come to realize in his short time at the arconia - and definitely one he treasured. almost as much as he treasured a solitary elevator ride. of course, it didn't seem like he'd be so lucky as to experience both back to back, not with the elevator taking so long. "finally," he muttered as the elevator arrived, his hand already outstretched to press the close door button when someone follows him in. "going up?" he asks, trying to hide his annoyance as he jabs the button for the twelve floor.
lingers just a few steps back, thumbing through his phone without actually seeing the screen, gaze cutting sideways to watch the guy’s fingers go to work on the ‘up’ button. over and over and over again. like the extra effort might make it come any quicker. only pockets his phone when the doors finally open with a little chime and steps inside, shoulders loose, quiet about it. presses seven, once, (because that’s how buttons work!), and leans back, arms crossing over his chest. blue eyes drift to the glowing twelve, then back to the other. (apparently ace is just a personal inconvenience to this guy). “what gave it away, the part where i walked in?”
( ↻ ) hayden flops back on the couch, purposely leaning part of her bodyweight against ace. “ dude, i’m so serious ! maybe it is hitting me a little too hard. where even was i in 2016 ? ” she’ll let out a dramatic sigh. “ mid-life ? pfft, please. if anything it’s more like a delayed quarter-life crisis. you know where i was in 2016 ? the olympics. i won the us open. like what if i’ve just peaked and i’ll never be the same ? ” hayden says this as if she hadn’t gone on to make history in the years following. she repositions herself so that he’s in her direct field of vision. bright eyes twinkle with amusement. “ well what about you ? if i’m having a delayed quarter-life crisis then i obviously have to drag you down with me. it’s only right. call it a bestie privilege. ”
“oof—” exhales when the sharp point of her elbow catches his ribs, breath punching out of him as her weight settles. shoulder instinctively curls in on impact, but he doesn’t shove her off, (he never does, he’s accepted being her human furniture), just shifts to give her a better prop, arm casually draping along the back of the couch. “you peaked at the open? right. ‘cause all those trophies you’ve been collecting since then are just, what, expensive paperweights?” tilts his head, nudging her shin again with that sock-clad foot. “you keep all this nostalgia to yourself, woman. i was nineteen and struggling in 2016. was mostly just pimples, cheap protein bars, and runnin’ laps until my lungs felt like they were gonna pop. so, yeah, no mid-life crisis, no quarter-life crisis, no crisis. think ‘m actually peaking right now. at least my skin cleared up, joints don’t crack when i stand up yet, and i don’t have to check my bank account before buying a gatorade. if you’re having a crisis, leave me outta it. i’m too young to be this old with you.”

everything around them was so colorful and downright gorgeous, remi didn’t know where to look. they felt like a kid on christmas morning: anxious in the best of ways, bouncing on their heels, a smile so bright tainting their features it almost split their face in two. they had never seen anything likes this, and the fact they were living a new experience filled them with such joy they couldn’t help but shriek in joy. “ this is so, so beautiful ! ” they exclaimed loudly enough to be heard over the noise. “ have you seen something like this before ? does it happen every year ? ” maybe they sounded like a peasant, but they were hardly ever afraid of it. in the end, they were one—a young person from a very small town far, far away from the big cities, just starting to live their life, what could people expect ? they couldn’t help but feel excited about things that might be the most mundane to others, and they weren’t afraid of showing it. so with delight in their eyes, they kept looking, not really caring if the person by their side would respond or not.
shoves hands deeper into jacket pockets, shoulders loose but planted, like bracing against the constant surge of bodies pressing forward. the colors, the crowd, the noise… it’s a lot. it’s not his scene. (ace has never had the luxury to stop and stare at parades when there were shifts to work, anyway). but then, he looks at remi. sees that expression that’s just… pure light. and jaw unclenches, just a bit. “yeah, happens every year.” corner of his mouth twitches, and leans in slightly so he doesn’t have to shout. “manhattan puts on a show. doesn’t matter how cold it is—but honestly? you should see the one in flushing. main street shuts down, gets so packed you can’t even see the pavement. like the whole neighborhood spills out into the street, swear to god. feels like an actual celebration, ya know? less of a production, maybe. just… people living it.”
