For the every day woman, truly special, get-my-hair-and-make-up-done, rent from Rent-the-Runway, events don't happen too often. Probably hasn't happened since graduation from University or even Prom. When they do, we panic. We want to be Audrey, but over think it to the point where we fear ending up more Lady Gaga. As with most things in life: Simpler is better. Keep it classic. Have a stand out piece of jewelry--as a wingman, so to speak--but let the dress do all the talking.

The Statement Necklace. There's always one that we fall in love with, but for no good reason we don't make the plunge and get it. Why? Because we tell ourselves, "oh, I could never pull that off". I'm telling you right now: that's a complete lie. They are the easiest thing to do, and I will tell you why.

1) You don't have to worry about other pieces of jewelry. Simple studs, the rings you wear every single day, that's all you need. The necklace will carry enough style for the whole team.

2) It allows you to style down without compromising style. A statement necklace, especially a colorful one, is best worn when nothing else is trying to steal the spotlight. A black tank, cream shawl sweater, and your favorite skinny jeans are the perfect backdrop for a show stealing neck piece.

3) The bolder the better. Challenge yourself. As long as you respect the statement necklace, you really can't go wrong.

Boho Babe

It's more than just reliving the 60's. It's more than just Haight Ashbury. And it's definitely more than daisy chains. The Bohemian look is often avoided because people feel as though they're faking it--as if they have to submit to the lifestyle associated with it in order to do it properly. I say "hogswash" to that. Sure, it's a mentality. But it's not exclusive. And don't think for a second you're sacrificing style to accomplish this look.

There are many different approaches to pulling it off, but for those of you trying it out without straying from your comfort zone, here's it broken down into three easy steps:

1) Clothing--While a shopping spree at Free People will absolutely expedite your adventure into the realm of Boho Chic, it's not necessary. Most people have summer dresses or skirts that could absolutely fit the bill--just keep it flowy (I'm ok with making that word up) and comfy.

2) Hair--Let it be. Relaxed and natural is beautiful for our faces, why shouldn't our hair have the same glory? If you NEED to do something with your hair, try a lazy braid, just keep it loose.

3) (Most importantly) Jewelry--Long necklaces, turquoise stones--or just natural stones in general--and burnished metal. One thing I love about Boho Jewelry: big earrings are absolutely encouraged.
